I have always been curious of where Disney makes the bulk of their profit from. Is it movies, merchandise, theme parks....?
Anyone have a clue?

I know about 1/3 of the profits comes from the theme parks. I am not sure about the rest.

I'm going to guess it is character licensing. They let any manufacture make what they want (toothpaste, pajamas, sippy cups you know) and Disney makes all the money from licensing the characters likeness on these objects.

Well let's see---millions of people paying theme park admission and every one of them buys at LEAST one $2.50 bottle of water...;)

I have been told that Disney loses money on the parks, but they make money on park merchandise(T-shirts and stuff "Junk"), resorts and food.

I don't know this what I was told by a friend.

I thought I read once that they make most of their money at the parks on the parking fees! At a $11 per car, I actually believe that.

Looks like "Media Networks" comes in at $16 billion in revenue, followed by "Parks and Resorts" at $11.5 billion, then "Studio Entertainment" at 7.3 billion, and "Consumer Products" at a measly $2.8 billion.

Come on people spend more on those consumer products, we need to bring Disney over the $3 billiion mark...

Suddenly I don't feel so guilty for reusing a resort mug. :rotfl2:

Every year it's always neck and neck between the DCL and DVC. My hubby used to work for the DVC and it was always a big deal to see who won out for top money maker. It is usually DCL, but DVC has won in the past. Not sure who it was last year.

Does media networks include ABC and the ESPN networks also?
Yes. Any TV channel, website, radio channel, ANYTHING like that that Disney owns.

Hannah Montanna was a 2.something billion dollar franchise last year.

Remember revenue isn't profit.

For profit I would think that you would just flip that list.

"Consumer Products" I'm assuming is mostly character licensing which since others produce the goods Disney would just need brand managers to keep track of things and count the money.

All the other divisions have considerable costs so less profit.

Close. They basically cover costs on park admission, and then big time margins on you once you get inside the parks.
