Disneymoon One day!

I've been brwosing for a while, but I just needed to post! Hopefully we will be planning our Disneymoon in the next few months....No proposal, but here is what happened the other night..

DBF comes out of the guest room with a HUGE book. He places it on the coffee table and tells me he has something VERY sentimental to tell me. (I say ok as long as it doesn't make me cry, because we were meeting friends at the movies!) He proceeds to tell me that about a month ago, while I was in the house, my mom took him into another room and offered him my grandmother's diamond if he wants to propose. Now we've chatted about kids, marriage etc, but nothing major. He hadn't even mentioned it to my parents yet. He said my poor mom was so nervous and kept saying "I'm not trying to pressure you into doing it etc"

My grandmother and I were very close so to have her diamond is extremely speacial to me. Now here is the funny part....the book of settings is so HUGE DBF was confused and overwhelmed and did not know what to pick, so he asked for my help. He said there will still be an official proposal, when I don't expect it!

Needless to say I was very excited! Hopefully in the next few months I will be able to post more!!

Welcome to these boards and best wishes. Having your grandmothers diamond would be so special. MY DF and I are having a DFTW in November of next year. I am planning on using my moms diamond. She passed away alittle over two years ago and I think this would be really be a special way to include her in our wedding. I asked my dad this past weekend and he is all for it. We looked at settings this past Sunday and should hopefully find something within the next month.

Congrats!!! I am not a Disney Bride, but I am getting married in 9 days and will be honeymooning in Disney. DF took a family heirloom diamond and had it set in a new white gold setting. It's not a large diamond, only 1/4 K's, but I have small hands and the memory means more to me than the size. My engagement ring was my great-grandmothers and has been passed down for 3 generations - i make the 4th. Actually, my mom was in a car accident and her engagement ring was crushed. At that point she began wearing only her wedding band and had the diamond made into a tie pin for her father. My grandfather passed away last summer and it helps me feel as if he is there by having a diamond on my finger that he wore for many Sunday's as a tie pin. Congratulations on your "soon to be engagement" and for having a wonderful DBF to give you such a wonderful heirloom ring.

Thanks everyone! We're both really excited! I picked out a very simple setting. Poor guy was so overwhelmed that he asked me to pick out his wedding band while I was looking in the book!! The book only has 300 pages of engagement ring settings! I don't know how big the diamond is, but I don't even care! It's so special!

We luck out because we go through a jewelry wholesaler who sells jewelry for fun, not profit. This means we get to purchase things for about 50% less than retail. She's the sister of a teacher at school and she is great! My dad bought my mom a ring last year and this woman emailed him this year because she found earrings that match the ring. So looking at the prices it looks like the setting will only cost $75-100 and then whatever the fee is to mount it. Very cool!

Next will be planning the wedding.....good lord they are expensive. I know i'll be asking for lots of opinions about that because I don't want to spend a ton, but I don't want it to be cheap looking either! No Disney wedding because I want to be married in my church, but definitely a Disneymoon!
