Disneyland with no LL

@Wendysofftoneverland I agree with what others have suggested. Look and see if the rides you want/care about the most are on Lightening Lane Multi Pass. You don't pay for Lightening Lane Multi Pass for each individual ride. You pay for the Lightening Lane Multi Pass and you get to wait in the shorter lines for all of the rides included. If the kids can only handle one 45 minute line per day, you may want to rethink getting Lightening Lane Multi Pass. Also, I think the Multi-Pass includes photos taken by a Disney photographer, if that changes anything for you.

Does it include all photos, or just ride photos? We were planning on buying a Photopass/Memory Maker downloads. Kids are in elementary school, youngest is 7 but on the small side (too short for Incredicoaster and Indiana Jones). Even if they are allowed to do single rider (not sure if the age is 7 or 8) on the rides they are tall enough for, I don't see that as being an option on this trip.

I have been getting LL for the last few years. It includes all photos. I use a Magicband+ and the photographers just scan the band and the photos go directly to the App. There is no need to buy photo pass when you have LL.

If you get LLMP, you get all Photopass pictures for that day. DL doesn't have anything like Memory Maker. You can do rider swap, but I think the single rider age is 8.

And just a reminder that Disneyland Photo Pass does not auto detect your Magic Band for attraction photos. To save your attraction photo, after you exit the ride, you'll see a kiosk with a series of photos. Find the image with your family and take a picture of it. You'll want to enter that code into the Disneyland app and follow the directions to download the pic onto your device.

I'm going to go against the grain and say that you can go without LL if you set your expectations accordingly, especially if you aren't doing a lot of thrill rides. You won't get as much done as you would with LL but we have had little to no problem getting onto rides without LL back when our child was a pre-schooler. You do however have to have a (concept of a) plan and know what to prioritize. For example, Nemo (no LL) will probably be at least 45-60 minutes wait to sit in that BO trap, Tom Sawyer Island (no LL) won't have much of a wait, and most Pixar rides won't get too crazy except for Midway Mania (LLMP) and RSR (ILL).

Ride photos have been "free" in the last 2-3 years. Most people just take a photo of it off the screen at ride exit and enter it into the app afterwards.

Yes, it’s does include all photos.

Single rider age is 7.

You'll be there over a very busy & popular weekend. Purchasing LLMP is pricey for the entire time. So if cost is a factor, then IF POSSIBLE, purchase LLMP for ONE of the days you'll be there. And purchase it for a day you'll primarily be at Disneyland.

go to https://disneylanddaily.com/how-to-start-your-day-at-the-disneyland-resort/ for detailed strategies on what rides to go on in what order if you do or do not have LLMP.

I think you'll have to find a place to compromise somewhere, since it's pretty unlikely you'll be able to have 1) no rope drop, 2) no LL, and 3) one 45-min line max. You can take a peek at the current wait times in the app whenever you want. I like to scout out waits at similar times to my visit, just to have an idea of what to expect. (For example, my trip starts 2 weeks from today, so I'm keeping an eye on the attractions I'm hoping to hit that first morning).

If you're frequent WDW visitors and possibly coming from the eastern time zone, it could be that rope dropping may be easier to pull off, and worth the trade-off of a couple hours of short lines without paying for LL. Or you could do LL for 1-2 days of your visit rather than all three, and save money there. I just think you'll be really disappointed if you're hoping for 30-min lines but don't have a strategy to make that likely to happen.

I would get it for one day

There are times when the lines are low when the park opens, closes and the parades but mostly outside being lucky you are going to have long lines

If it's your first trip and you're only there over the weekend, I'd highly recommend multipass, at least for Saturday. You might also want to get an individual LL for Radiator Springs Racers, unless you want to wait over an hour or do single rider line.

I wish you would reconsider not rope dropping. It really is one of the best things about DLR vs. WDW. You get so much accomplished before 11am if you rope drop. Fantasyland alone is heaven in those early hours. That's an area where LL does nothing for you regardless. I would say you don't need LL if you rope drop but you have to go in with a plan of what to ride before the masses come. There are times when we rope drop, even with LLs in our app, and we can not touch any of the LLs until 10-11am. We'll book something out like Indiana Jones because it fills quickly. We like to walk on most rides before 10am and then have the LLs for later when we want to re-ride something like Space Mountain or Big Thunder. The Disneyland Daily link is a great guide on how to do this exact strategy.

There are ways to get the LLs and not be on your phone the whole time. Again, make a plan and then only jump on the phone when you're in line or when you're stopping down for food or a bathroom break. The structure of DLR is such that you can go from ride to ride using LLs. California Adventure is even better for that. You will need your phone and the app for some things like mobile ordering which can save you time like scheduling a snack to be ready after your ride is done. We do that with beignets at the Mint Julep Bar. Cuts out waiting in line for the same thing. Or getting a Dole Whip before going into the Enchanted Tiki Room.

I see LLs as a way to enhance your trip especially if you don't get to DLR frequently. You can get a lot more done and have more time by using them. I definitely think over a busy holiday weekend that they are a must.

Agreed

Its worth it, if you have a hotel nearby...go until noon then go sleep int he afternoon but the first 90 mins is the best times for rides

This is also when AZ and Utah schools have a week off and that heavily impacts the DL crowds, as well. It’s a very, very busy weekend.
When we went at the end of Sept/ first of Oct we were wondering why the parks were so packed and the waits all about 45-60 mins or more. Turns out it was an AZ school break and the southern CA schools were off too. We were glad to have LLMP.

Yes, I now avoid that weekend at all costs. It’s a very crowded weekend.
Really? I thought the new crowd "rule" was when lower AP's are block and single day tickets are higher it is a GOOD time to visit for lower crowds.

I am beginning to think I may have to rethink the time for my tentative trip.

One more vote for reconsidering no rope drop. It's quite simply THE BEST TIME to be in the parks and will significantly add to your ability to get things done. Rope drop, then go back to the hotel and nap in the afternoon if you need to. Personally there's no way I'd even consider not doing rope drop if you're not doing LLMP. You'll be spending SO much time in line.

And as someone else said, it may not seem that early to you if you're coming from the east due to the time difference. Not sure where you're staying, but chances are just about anywhere will have you closer to the parks than you'd be used to from DW if you want to go back to the hotel during the day.

If you're doing Nemo, be prepared for a claustrophobic setting with a lot of disagreeable smells around you. The scent of sweaty bodies on that ride is pretty unpleasant. Hopefully your kid will enjoy it, but you've been warned :)
