Disneyland Villas rentals vs. DL Hotel vs. our normal hotel?

I don’t know the exact timing. But we exited the PPH through the hotel’s back entrance and we were at the security line (same one guests of the DLH use) in 5-7 minutes…I’m guessing.

Coming back to the PPH from Downtown Disney, we cut through the GCH and then just crossed at the light to the PPH. So coming back from Disneyland the PPH is definitely closer than the DLH. But going into Disneyland might be a little longer.

I hope that makes sense!
Thanks!

Brand new here... we stayed at Disneyland Hotel in June 2023 using Costco and loved our stay... I had the whole golden hour with early entry mapped out each day! We are planning on heading back and staying in the Villas in summer 2025. With the Villas being open now (they were not when we visited in 2023) I'm debating if to use DISboards rent forum to find an owner to rent from or just go thru David's Rental or the Rental Store. I have not really seen any VDH owners renting? Thoughts? I'm a planner so I'm all about securing the reservation at the 11 month window... also unclear how quick VDH availability goes if I wait for the 7 month window. Learning the ropes here... thanks for any advice!

Under 7 months is pretty spotty availability. There wont be many renting out points since there aren't as many owners yet as older resorts.

Id do some math and see if becoming an owner is beneficial for you. Oh how I wish I had taken that $5300 I spent at the Villas at DL Hotel on a cash stay and had put that towards a contract purchase. I didn't really know all that much about DVC and I thought it wouldn't work for us, especially for that stay but it would've worked beautifully.

My 11 month window for my requested dates opens on September 17th. Is there a way to flat out ask in DISboards if a VDH owner is renting? Both David's and the Rental Store have shared what their price per point is so I have that insight.

I haven't dived into that section of the boards yet so I don't how the rules work for that thread. Hopefully someone else knows and can help out.

Just clarifying that EE is only 30 minutes, not a "golden hour" like it used to be! So sad but true these days!

Officially, that's against the rules - the admins will take down your post or not let it go up in the first place. But, what you did here was pretty savvy. Unfortunately, I'm no help.

Thanks... wasn't clear how to proceed given I do not see much being offered for VDH in the rental forum. My "savvyness" was completely inadvertent... I wish I were that smooth.

There is a Facebook group specifically for renting out VDH, Aulani, and VGC. Facebook is the Wild West of DVC rentals, so if you go that route, take lots of precautions!

The term Pacific NorthWest is not limited to the US, it is used to describe the geographic region in Western North America that has the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Rocky Mountains on the other and is roughly in the Northern part of the continent. Most commonly this encompasses Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia. Broader areas can also sometimes include Alaska, the Yukon, California, Montana, and Wyoming but ask a dozen Pacific Northwesteners and you will likely get a dozen different answers!:rotfl:

This is the PNW and that big island in the middle? That's where I am! :D

Hello all. I'm trying to decide where we should stay next June when we go to Disneyland. We're planning 4 park days. I would anticipate we'll arrive on a Saturday and start the parks on Sunday. This may be our last DLR trip for a while so I was thinking staying onsite might be worth it. The issue is does the high cost of staying onsite justify what we might give up at our normal hotel choice, the Courtyard Theme Park? At that hotel, we can get 2 large queen beds, a bunk bed option that invariably one of our teens will use, and two showers so people can get ready at the same time. The swimming pool is tiny and the slides just aren't that big a deal now. It's mostly the larger room and bathroom option.

I've looked at Disneyland Villa rentals which feels like a way to save just a little bit of money while getting that onsite experience. Has anyone done that before and is there anything you're giving up by doing so? The room that's probably available would be a one queen + one Murphy bed style queen + one bathroom. It's definitely smaller than what we would normally have. I'd assume you get the early entry option which we would most likely use, at least for DLR. Is there any benefit to staying in the normal Disneyland Hotel that you wouldn't get by staying at the Villa? I would assume you have access to the same areas?

I guess the only real reasons to stay in the Disneyland Hotel or Villa is the early access and feeling like we're taking a Disney vacation. This would be our 5th trip to DLR so I don't know if the cost increase would really be worth it, especially since I usually go through discount services to get the hotel and park tickets. I just like the idea of being onsite one last time so it's really more of asking is it really worth it?

Disclaimer: my wife is not very interested in the Grand Californian. It would be either Disneyland Hotel/Villa or the normal hotel. Plus, that seems more expensive.
How many people in your travel party?

Have you considered the Westin? Better quality hotel, half the price and still across the street from DL. A little bit of a walk to get to and from DL but that’s it.

We typically stay at the Courtyard Front Entrance because it offers 2 queen beds and a bunk bed. As my teens get older, they like to not share a bed or at least have the option to sleep apart. It also offers two showers, one separated by a locked door. It also has a double vanity. Pretty key for getting teen girls ready in the morning. It's also under a 10 minute walk from security.

I lean more to just sticking with it. I'll look at the Westin though. I think this thread was more of is it worth giving up the creature comforts for Disney theming. Honestly, I'd imagine the walk from the DL Hotel and the Courtyard are equidistant. The 30 minutes extra time doesn't really concern me since we rope drop every day. I think the main things were just did we want the Disney theming, did we want the better pool, and did we want to pay extra for those? I'm leaning to no.
