That really sucks. You need to pay to have the advantage and without WIfi (such as us as we won't have a data plan coming from Canada), then it would be useless to us anyways...plus now we'll be at a disadvantage as others that have it will grab the FP spots

Man, $10 per person will really add up. I'm curious as to how it will work for families and groups though. Do I get everyone's FPs for the day for my family of four? If they are all attached to my phone how do the CMs know who is who? Kinda makes it difficult to split up if me and DD want to ride Space Mountain while DW and DS hit Indy.

I could see them adding the daily cost to ticket packages like they do the park hopper.

I'm also really curious to find out how this is going to play out. I've definitely thought for a long time that a digital fastpass option is the next logical step, and I've been looking forward to it, but I didn't suspect an up charge for it. I wonder if the up charge decision was made for profit, or to limit utilization so the system can keep up and so there will be enough FP left over for the paper FP users. I think $10/day is fair price only if it's $10 per family (and FP can be booked on one phone, so four-year-olds are not required to have smartphones), rather than $10 per person. I realize it has photo downloads too, but that's really a separate perk. Not everyone is interested in both FP and photos, and many AP's already have photos included, so bundling the perks seems a little odd. I really hope to AP option is really affordable, or maybe even included in the higher level passes.

if it really is $10/person i wonder if they will roll out a family price to get everyone in your family for something like $25-$30. i'm not sure how they know whose in your family, i guess just scan your ticket and then limit it to like 7 people.

San Jose Mercury News got additional information from a Disney spokesperson. Unfortunately it will be $10 per admission ticket. I have to say that as much as I love the option for digital fastpass, our family cannot afford $50 per day for digital fastpass. We will still buy Photopass 1 week and call it good with the paper fastpass.

I'm totally blindsided by the upcharge. That did not even occur to me as a possibility with this. You must be able to do multiple people on the same phone though, because there are plenty of 7 year olds who don't have their own phones. I can see myself trying it out for a day, but I usually do not stay the whole day at the parks anyway so unless it is very cheap for a year for APs (especially since I already have photopass downloads) I don't see myself using it much.

I'm a bit confused (might be the nasty head cold I'm fighting with right now!)..but is the only advantage of this MaxPass so that you don't have to physically walk to the fastpass kiosks to obtain your fastpass? And does it work the same as the regular fastpass, in that you can only get one at a time? This doesn't seem like a good thing at all. Unless I'm missing something?

It should be $10 per family or one phone, but knowing the current Disney it will be $10 per Family Member.
Also, both attractions added to FP (TSMM, and the Matterhorn) can easily be done in the morning without the need of FP.
Depending on allocation, I don't see a reason to change unless its for convenience.

My only wish is that they do not get rid of the Matterhorn Single Rider option.

This could be totally unrelated but when I was there on Jan. 4th (park closed to capacity for a time) the single rider line was mysteriously closed. Of course the CM would give no explanation as to why.

I'm not understanding why people think the FPs will all be gone for the day after the initial rush first thing in the morning. I understand it to be that you can still only get one FP at a time and have to wait the two hours before getting another one (or waiting until the current FP is usable). The only difference is you won't have to physically go to the FP machine. You can't schedule all the FPs for the day when you 1st enter the park, can you? You're just paying for the privilege of not having to walk all over the park, right?

Would your opinion of MaxPass change if Matterhorn and Toy Story were EXCLUSIVELY digital and no paper FPs were available?

Not at all. We'd just do those first thing in the morning like we do now. The line may even be shorter in the mornings while everyone stops to get their FPs booked.

I do think applying the same rules as the legacy FP may help though. Making people wait the 2 hrs (or after use of the current FP) will still allow FPs to be obtained later in the morning/early afternoon. The digital part doesn't bother me much, although I still have questions about how to book for the whole family/kids without cell phones - it's that they're charging for it that took me by surprise.

A lot of you out there are APs (as DL has a lot of you). coming from the east coast i was planning on doing a Cali trip in the Fall of 2017 and at the end we were going to end in LA and i was naturally going to convince my wife to go to DL. Because its just the 2 of us and we are only going to be there for 1 day i would consider the $20 upcharge if that means we can get a few more fastpasses and save a little time and energy. that being said i definitely feel for all the familys out there.

As DL gets a lot of short term guests i think this will sell even though the price is a little steep for a feature that feels like it should be included. its just enough money where you're not going to want to hurt your vacation over it, but can make Disney a lot of money.

One advantage that I read about is that you can book FP for either park. So, you could be in Disneyland and grab a RSR FP without having to go over to DCA.

Also, from what I have seen, the same rules about FP will appl, only one at a time and you can get another one either 2 hours after you got a FP or when that FP window opens up. What I would be interested in knowing is if, with this new system, you can still have both a DL and DCA FP at the same time or if they will have effectively closed that option.

I wonder whether the $10 per person fee will be waived for DLR hotel guests. Seems like the perfect kind of freebie to give away as a bonus.
That would actually be smart of DLR. its a way to push people into their resorts, similar to how Universal does in Orlando. DL has a lot of competition with near by hotels too and this is something they cannot give away unless they partner with disney.

A few random thoughts that I have on this:
  • $10/family would be great, but it's probably $10/person.
  • DL gets a LOT of business from AP holders. So look at it from the point of view of an AP holder who lives in So Cal (which is a HUGE part of DL's target market) - maybe you go to DL once/week or 2x/month. And you decide that on only ONE of those days, you'll pay the extra $10 so you can use MaxPass. Ok, it's only $10 extra on top of what you already pay for a visit to DL. Meh, no big deal.
  • Consider also that a lot of AP holders actually go to DL in the evenings after work. I kind of doubt that MaxPass will permit you to "reserve" your FP ahead of time and from 1 link that somebody quoted out of earlier in this thread, you'll have to be AT DL in order to use MaxPass.
  • It behooves Disney to FORCE MaxPass users to be at DL in order to use MP in order to get your FP. Why? Because otherwise, all of the FP for all of these attractions could disappear before they even get there in the late afternoon. Most DL visitors are locals. And locals don't necessarily take 3-5 days off of work just to go to DL for 3-5 days in a row. Most locals, even those who aren't AP holders, only visit DL for a day and often it's on a Saturday or Sunday. So maybe on the weekends, you might see FPs run out earlier in the day for a super popular ride like RSR. However, there won't be enough "out of towner" DL guests in the mornings to result in FP's for every single attraction at both parks to run out before noon.
  • And if Disney wants to encourage AP holders (again, a big target market) to spend more $$ inside the parks, it makes good financial sense for them to do it this way.
  • I bet that the AP pricing for MP will vary based on what type of AP you have. So if you have an AP that ALREADY INCLUDES PhotoPass, then your daily or annual MaxPass price will be lower than an AP holder who has an AP that doesn't include PhotoPass.
  • This is also all prep for 2019 when Star Wars Land debuts. It will prevent SOME of the mad rush/run/walk to the back of the park to get FP's for Star Wars Land rides in person. FP's for SWL rides will still run out super fast like RSR still does, but the difference is that this will result in some crowd control at SWL and it will distribute people throughout the park better...so when SWL opens, in order to be sure to get a FP for your favorite SWL ride, you'll likely have to bite the bullet and spend the $10/person for each day that you want a SWL attraction's FP.

On busier days, can you see how fast RSR FPs will go? Fps for popular rides like that will be gone for the day as well. I can't imagine what will happen when Star Wars rides are up and running

Maybe they will have the exception of the Ages 3-9 tickets as being able to be added to an adult's app paying for this perk? Like others have stated, I can't see how it would be fair to expect children to have a smart phone. But then again, Disney doesn't always make sense...
