Well.....I am not saying I am happy about it, but that is about what I expected. I kind of guessed they would pull the Premium over the $400 mark - $40 is a lot to increase it, but it doesn't shock me. Deluxe AP only went up $20. And the 2 lower level APs only got a $20 and a $10 increase - now that is very interesting based on the recent chats here about the SoCal pass holders adding to the crowds. I am surprised they are not getting zinged with a bigger increase, while us PAP holders are taking the biggest hit!:mad: Well, DLR is not going to cut down on crowds by only raising the SoCal APs $10 and $20. That is not enough of an increase. So I hope they have some other methods in place for crowd control.

Maybe, since the ticket prices are increasing in a couple of days, DLR will FINALLY have its AP hotel calendar updated with any good October AP rates then too.

I wonder what the prices of the Hoppers will be - the article didn't even address Hoppers at all.

It does hurt! Why increase the already highest cost level the most? I thought the big idea of the price increase was to help control the too large passholder crowd. This will scare off the people who spend big bucks, while I don't know if the masses of cheaper ticket holders will think twice about the 10-20 dollar jump especially since they will continue offering the payment plans. That sucks!

I am now officially reconsidering renewing my AP altogether. The SoCals are out since I'm not a local and the deluxe presents too many headaches in terms of trip planning.

When I travel to the DLR I usually spend 3-4 days in the parks and eat all of my meals in the parks, plus tend to buy stuff like pins and even artwork once in a while.

I think the best way to show Disney my displeasure over this decision is to hit them where they're trying to hit me. I'm also now very strongly considering cancelling my two tenative visits in August and December.

Will this make the gift card for your birthday $72 or will it stay $69? I know those of you with AP's are not happy, it sucks that they have to raise prices in the economy that we're in!!

It does suck, and it just makes little sense to me. Unless DLR is changing the block out days for each of the 2 SoCal APs so that they don't all flock to the parks at the exact same time before a block out period, increasing our PAPs by $40 is not going to do anything to stave off massive crowds. Those of us who really want our PAPs will probably still pay the money, but the lower level SoCal APs will still be congregating at DLR before their block out days set in. I think they are only thinking of making more money but not really looking at the bigger picture of crowd control. I would be willing to bet that most of those 800,000 AP holders did not buy PAPs!

I'm tempted to write them in an effort to voice my disappointment over the price hit they're putting on their most loyal AP holders, but I suspect I'll just get the standard email back telling me that they're grateful for my email, but no price increases have been announced at this time.

We will be getting deluxe next April not the Premium anymore. Just have to schedule around the blockouts. Bummer :(

I'm with you Sleepless Knight. How absolutely sickening to those of us who need to carry PAP's....Disney WE are the ones who should be getting a break, we are NOT local, we travel to your parks, we participate in pin trading, we spend money on souvies, we buy food.....how ridiculous to put the biggest hike on us. Well, IF we renew it won't be with Premiums, it will be with Deluxes and that really sucks. Not just for our family, but for the DLR.

Like others have said, unless different passes have different blockout dates, then this will probably cause significantly larger crowds outside of blockout periods. There have been numerous reports of holiday weekends--when all but Premium APs are blocked out--having SMALLER crowds than regular weekends.

A lot of people who used to buy Premium will now be buying Deluxe, which just means that they'll also be staying OUT of the parks on those holidays.

I wish Disney would offer a Premium without parking pass. That could be great for out-of-towners who stay within walking distance or use ART, and would at least LOOK like they were trying to combat the parking problems. Disney could reduce the price by $40. It would be a taking away a perk for sure, but for out-of-towners it would be a good deal.

So I would guess more people will buy Deluxe, and fewer will buy Premium. (Though as far as locals go, it might not make too much of a difference, as they mostly need free parking and probably still have the payment plan to soften the blow.)

I have an AP right now, but once it expires, I will definitely look into going annually, during a blocked out holiday weekend. When the economy recovers the park might be a bit less busy outside of "blockout" periods, but as it is, I'd be surprised if blockout periods don't become some of the best times to visit.

People who have $$$ will continue to spend the $$$, this not going to scare anyone. To answer your question it was conjecture what the price increase is/was for, nothing more.

Didn't see any price increase for multi-day passes. They keep this up and the out-of-towners are going to be priced right out of the park. :sad2:

Frankly, I'm bitter right now. I just need to vent, so I don't want anyone on these boards (unless they're the person responsible for this increase) to feel like my ire is directed at them. This year alone I've spent 5 days in Disneyland/DCA and 7 days in WDW. I've eaten every single meal on those days on Disney property and in Disney restaurants. I certainly could have taken vacations elsewhere at wonderful places for a lot less money.

In fact just the other day I was explaining to a family member why I would rather spend more money to have a couple of days in Disneyland than a week on a cruise for less money (and better food that's already paid for). Disney releases really bad numbers for the quarter and then drops this bombshell on us.

At least to me it feels like Disney is trying to improve their bottom line by punishing the very people who keep it from looking a whole lot worse in tough times. Instead of a loyal guest who returns time after time year after year, they see a $ sign. With this news today, I don't think they want me to visit every couple of months. And if they don't want me to visit every couple of months, they don't want me to buy pins, plush toys, and artwork. You know I'm really not sure if they want me to spend my money there.

Wow! I am stunned. I never expected PAP's to take such a big hit. I am truly mystified by this move. Next summer will put me back to Deluxe. They didn't even send me a renewal for my daughters (it expires Aug 2). I tried to go renew online last week and it said they were sold out. When I called AP guest services I asked them if they were trying to ding me for the price increase. He said they were unaware of any price increase. I knew that was bunk but what could I do.

I am confused by this price increase the more I think about it.. Hmmmm
it has appeared from countless threads and posts from many different boards that
the socal APers "locals" that frequent the park for the newest rides and to kill a few hours, that usually don't stay at the hotels. Don't spend a ton of $ at the parks.
Wouldn't it make sense that some/bulk of the ones that use the payment plan probably couldn't afford the AP in the first place, so would they really be spending in the park ?
Unless they have collected some serious data to the contrary, this increase sounds crazy.
I like many many others from out of the "local" area spend a ton of $ in the parks and the hotels.
It really appears that Disney doesn't want my money, because I am not a socal APer. Am I wrong?
Please socal people I am not hating on you I just don't get it :confused3

I think that's how a lot of us are feeling right now.

I was literally on the verge of joining D23 this weekend. Suffice it to say, I'm rethinking that since I feel more like the corporation views me as a dollar sign to pad the bottom line.

I will still join the Walt Disney Museum though. Right now I especially feel it's important to keep Walt's legacy alive. If it can recreate what I feel in the parks, watch out.
