Disneyland Secrets

i think i heard the bamboo column in indy is mia.

Again????

It was there in January, though I didn't notice it actually working when people were messing with it. (though I've also heard it doesn't work each time...set on some sort of timer of some sort?)

TheAmazingSpidey, the rope that you pull is right in the line before the safety-film room. I've only been in line once when it hasn't wrapped around that area (and just after we got past it an angry-looking CM rushed up and created the line to go around it, seemed like someone had closed it off when they werent' supposed to). It's a big well with a rope going down, and a sign telling you to NOT mess with the rope, LOL.

Alright, thanks! :thumbsup2 I'll look for it next time I go. I'm gonna pull it. (You can't get in trouble, right? I wouldn't think so. But you never know. :scared1: )

The only trouble you'll get is the nasty looks from people who actually believe that sign. :rotfl: Especially the ones trying to teach their children to obey signs and such.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

I really hope the stick one is there and works. I cracked up earlier, imagining the frightened reactions! :lmao:

That is sooo true. . . DH got some dirty looks (I had told him about it before our trip and he was looking forward to it). . . but then everyone behind us started doing it too!

the only bad part about pulling the rope is you can barely hear what they are saying.....that is until one of the falls....:rotfl: .....you can sure hear that "aahhhhh"

That was me the first time I went on Indy. Some big dumb ox came up and started pulling on the stick as his friends laughed. DS (6yo at the time) said, "Mama, what's that guy doing?" and I said, "Honey, apparently that poor man doesn't know how to read" and I pointed out the sign.

Then the rumbling started. :scared1: :lmao:

The gas lamps on main street are supposedly 150 years old? Purchased as scrap from baltimore.

This next one is at Universal Studios Hollywood, but i still wanted to add it anyway since it has to do with disney!

At Universal Studios Hollywood, on Jurassic Park: The Ride, the boat you ride on goes past a dinosaur eaten raft with the Mickey Mouse ear hat displayed on the front of the raft. It is right before you go up the "hill."

and it has Michael [Eisner]'s name on it.

and i found where i uploaded my country bear photo too

I don't know if this is true or not, but based on my experience it is---my brother worked at the park during their 30th Anniversay celebration and one night they closed the park to guests and opened it up to employees and up to 3 guests per employee (excuse me, cast member). It was the night of a lifetime for me--the only time my parents let me stay out late on a school night :rotfl: Anyway, we got to do things I probably will never be able to do again--ride Pirates & Space Mountain with the lights on, take a guided, narrated walking tour of HM, have full access to backstage...so much fun. Anyway, the one secret I remember is that when it rains, Adventureland is the slipperiest area in the park. And I learned that the hard way that night because it started to rain and I slipped and fell--whoops. So, I believe it but not sure if it's a secret or any truth to it.

Very true about the mermaids. I have video footage of that. One of these days I will transfer the old old Super 8 film to DVD and upload it for you guys, I also have video of the Indians doing a rain dance; they used to let you roam free on Tom Sawyer's Island. I miss Country Bear Jamboree. I was one of those annoying kids singing all the words.;)

Hi & welcome to the DIS, Quest4Kingdom~

This is true. Back in the '60s real "mermaids" used to sit on those rocks and wave at guests. My mom remembers the stories about the sailors jumping in the lagoon to swim to them. If you go to DL in the near future you can actually see footage of this on the First 50 Years film that is shown in the Opera House.

Here's one most people don't know....

When Pirates first opened, most of the skeletons were real. It was easier in that day to get true skeletons than make your own. They have, over the years been replaced...but there is still one human skull in Pirates. It's over the bed in the Captain's Quarters.

And one correction from above....
The Columbia is actually a replica of the Lady Washington. This tall ship still sails and takes trips up and down the west coast for people to enjoy. Ladywashing.org. This ship has also made an appearance in a Star Trek movie...I can never remember the names, but I think it's Generations. It's the one where Kirk and Picard meet up in the Nexus.

I wish I would have found this thread before my trip EXCEPT for this one tip!!! That would have creeped me out!

What a great OP and fascinating info, think I found what I'm reading today:surfweb:

The television special for Disney while I was there was a loop of the 10th anniversary special and it was fascinating. It featured Walt explaining to the 21 year old "Disney Ambassador" what new changes were coming before her trip around the world to represent Disney. They featured characters long since gone, the mermaids, showed the mock up of POTC etc., fascinating and fun, I learned a lot

I love this thread!!

The weather vane atop "Peter Pan's Flight" is in the shape of Captain Hooks galleon, and passersby can often hear the Darling children playing in the nursery.

For all kinds of history, secrets, trivia, and awesome photographs of Disneyland through the years, I highly recommend the book "Disneyland: Then, Now, and Forever." We picked it up at the park in '06, it is priceless!! (Although we paid $24.95 plus tax :rotfl: )

First off this thread is awesome:thumbsup2 . I just wanted to mention what a CM told me recently. When walking through the castle you will see a clock, well the CM went on to say the time it is displaying is the time the Walt Disney passed away. I think it read 4:01 if I remember correctly. Can anyone verify that it is true?

I think I remember somewhere in this thread that there was a Dumbo sign in Indiana Jones (cause the attraction is in that part of the old parking lot). I was there last weekend and asked a CM and she showed me the sign. It is actually an Eyeore sign! In that last section of Indiana, where the film is. it's back where the projector is, ask a CM to show you with a flash light.
FUN!:thumbsup2

We were there June 26th and Indy was our last ride of the night. We were leaving the ride, everyone else was gone, and we asked a cm named Cameron, he was so nice, he was actually off the clock and leaving, but took the time to show us 2 hidden mickeys and the Hidden Eyeore sign.
The hidden Mickeys are : 1 large on on the left wall closest to the Screen.
2. back where the big stone map is , next to the rope you arent suppose to pull, in the bottom right corner of the map is a faded little mickey head. you can barely see it from all the fingers touching the map,but if you look hard you will see it. Thanks Cameron!! We did go to City Hall to tell them how grateful we were for Cameron.:thumbsup2

so I read this WHOLE thread...AWESOME....and since it is the YOMD, are the 50th hidden Mickey's still there or not? Do we just have to look for the other hidden Mickeys and do they have a map of the other park hidden Mickey's? :confused3 thanks in advance

Since the 50th celebration ended 2 years ago, the 50 Mickeys went w/ it too.
During the celebration, I made sure to find all 50 of them, but they added some so it was more than 50 to be exact.
