My father and I will be going to the DLR for the first time next week, we've gone to WDW multiple times and are vets but we are beyond excited for this trip.

Are there any special things anyone recommends doing that are special and unique to Disneyland be it a meal or anything. This is a trip that I have been wanting to take for a VERY long time. It will already be very special to me just being in Walt's park but if there are any other experiences or things anyone could recommend it would be greatly appreciated.

Walk up and through Sleeping Beauty's castle to see the dioramas.

Buy the special Mickey Ears that are synced to World of Color and light up during the show.

Eat churros because they are easy to find and are a DLR staple!:)

Disney has the best churros; also there are these new pastries by Fantasy Faire at Maurice's Treats DELICIOUS

Blue Bayou is a unique restaurant at DL that you should consider, at least for dessert. The food price and quality is debated on her frequently, but the atmosphere is worth it (at least) once, IMO! Have a good trip!

I loves Blue Bayou.
Their lemonade is good (with a light up ice cube; pretty cool)
My waiter kept giving me free refills which was really nice of him

The Fantasmic! VIP Dessert Seating is a wonderful experience -- you get an actual seat (on a chair!) in a special section, a generous dessert box and refillable beverages, and a great view of Fantasmic! If you do the first show and want to stay for the fireworks, the view isn't bad and being seated is a nice plus. Definitely plan to do fireworks from the hub on at least one night -- DL's fireworks are excellent and different from the shows at WDW. If you are interested in tours, do the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour. The tour itself is quite interesting and it will give you access to Walt's private apartment above the fire station as a bonus. Lastly, if you will be there on a Saturday night, stop by Princess Fantasy Faire for the Royal Swing Ball -- swing dancing with a live band, carrying on a tradition started by Walt himself. Many dancers dress up in period clothes, and there is lots of fun all around.

Ride the front of the monorail, still allowed at DL resort. (get on in Tomorrowland). Ride it round trip back to Tomorrowland, they do not make you get off at DD.

Make sure to see the DL band in one of their unique performances.

It sounds nuts, but ride Casey Jr train and sing along! Ride Mr Toad again.

I still want to see the Alice in Wonderland musical chair game, will try and catch it next week.

I also booked the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, I want to see inside Club 33 and Walt's Apartment. (new to me).

You have to eat at Blue Bayou, just a great experience and the Monte Cristo sandwich is amazing. Also, take 30 minutes out of your day and get a mint julep and Mickey beignets at the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square and just people watch, it's a great way to just relax for a little bit. You're going to love DLR.

Breakfast at the Carnation Cafe. It's on Main Street, has outdoor seating and is great for watching all the people come into the park early in the morning.

Matterhorn! The views of the park are incredible and it's soooo classic Disneyland!

Finding Nemo submarine rides. Again, classic Disneyland and a wonderful experience.

Autopia. Lots of fun, and the scenery around the ride is beautiful. And, again, classic Disneyland!

Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour! As a PP said, it's amazing and well worth the cost! Being in Walt's apartment was an incredibly moving experience and well worth the cost IMO.

Ask the conductors at the Main Street Train Station if you can ride in the Lilly Belle. They will tell you a time to come back. It's free and another fantastic experience. A conductor will ride with you and tell you history and stories along the grand circle tour.

I've never done this yet, but it's on my list: ask to ride in the wheelhouse of the Mart Twain. I think there's a book you sign and they give you a certificate.

Blue Bayou is always a fun experience! It's pricey, but the last time I went in Feb of this year, it was really, really good!

Also, something I have not tried but heard SO many great things about is the eating at the Napa Rose. It's another thing on my list!

And you can't miss going into Trader Sam's at the DLH. It is such a fun place to grab a drink! So much to look at and the food and drinks are yummy!

In DTD, the beignets at the Jazz Kitchen express are to die for! SO good!!!

Cars Land is amazing! So well done and so many details! WOC and Fantasmic always blow me away and of course the fireworks!

Have a great trip!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Louisiana Lemonade there. If they sold it for order, I'd have gallons of it shipped to my house monthly.

If you're a Fantasmic fan at WDW - then you shouldn't skip Fantasmic at DL! Going even further - try to reserve the Fantasmic Dessert Seating. Yes, it IS expensive, but it is unique to DL and if you're used to the benches at WDW, then you might not want to sit on the hard ground at DL.

Plus, you get a great view and yummy treats - a win/win!

Great tips! We are also first timers and leave for CA in 12 days!

Ride the Storybook Land Canal Boats - a classic, I am always fixated on the minute details!

I also agree about Blue Bayou. Monte Cristo is amazing and can also be found at Cafe Orleans.
