Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

But we need to know why they're getting locked - we're all in the dark as to the specific problem, so we keep unwittingly repeating the same infraction.

Really???

Sometimes, threads are locked due to the volume of reports made which need to be reviewed. In some cases, they are locked simply because of the disregard for the topic or the arguments and attacks going on in the thread. In many/most cases, the posts removed may not have even been viewed by others now wondering why the thread was locked.

IMO, our posters need to respect the guidelines, respect each other, and respect the Forum(s) where they participate. When posters feel a thread has taken a direction not intended by the thread topic perhaps not participating is the best path to take. Most of the threads are closed when the topic is no longer respected and, in some cases, the behavior continues even after a Moderator has posted a reminder about the topic.

I totally get that, and I fully understand why that's the case.

But like I said in my DM - this board clearly wants to have discussions about the out-of-state restrictions. The out-of-state restriction is confusing, somewhat ham-handedly implemented, and affects a lot of people's plans. I know we can discuss it in a way that's reasonable. But, so far, we're not sure what the issue is - why those specific threads are being locked. If it's the topic, if it's the tense nature of the discussion, or if it's just people abusing the reporting system. But it seems to affect any thread where that topic comes up.

I genuinely didn't want to directly criticize anyone. It's literally just this one issue - which is out of the ordinary. But those out-of-state restrictions might last for months - we may have to keep doing this over and over again unless we can get some clarity to help keep us in line with the rules.

Not all the threads are permanently shutdown, I think they just temporarily locked them until a moderator has had time to review any reports they've had. I think we're short some moderators on this end of the DIS. The main superthread probably just needs to be cleaned up so it's only official info and it'll be reopened.

Let's change topics though... has anyone else read anything about the safety in Anaheim near the resort? Get Away Today had positive things to say while Mice Chat reported some pretty awful instances of crime (especially with CMs walking to work) due to the influx of the homeless.

This might change my decision on hotel vs. motel which is why I ask if it's improving.

My daughter and I went to DTD a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday. We parked across the street at the Anaheim Hotel and walked to the Harbor entrance. I didn't see any homeless people in our walks to or from the park.

From what I can see, threads get locked when the conversation crosses over from discussing the facts of the travel advisory to “Its ridiculous because Californians have been invading my state” and “Californians aren’t adhering to the travel advisory so why should out-of-staters.” Or discussing ways or intentions to subvert the restrictions. One is on topic and has to do with DLR reopening, the other does not. I am not personally reporting those posts, but I think those are what people are reporting.

Same I’ve parked at the Anaheim hotel a few times and have not seen any homeless people. Back when BVS first reopened in November I even walked from the Anaheim hotel all the way to the Simba lot on Katella and didn’t see any homeless people.

A lot of the harbor hotels are allowing parking right now for DTD. I don’t know if that will continue when the parks fully open. Worth a phone call. I know as mentioned above the Anaheim hotel, plus Tropicana and best western park place inn are allowing parking with a few with right now.

I am curious to know, too.

It's about halfway down the page. “A concern that has been brought up by cast members who walk to their cars after dark is the increasing aggressiveness of the local transients,” said one source. “The transients have been following some, saying rude things to others, and there have been some close calls where they have threatened cast members.”

We stayed at the Anaheim Hotel end of Feb. When we walked down Harbor to cross at the main crossing, we encountered a few homeless camped under trees along the walk. When we walked the opposite side of Harbor (just along the backside of CA), we didn't come across any homeless. I will say that I never felt unsafe either way, even when walking at night.

Regarding safety, I can't believe how some people are saying they walk along Harbor for any length and claim to NOT see homeless people. That is impossible. I see them every time I just drive to DtD along Katella and at the Harbor intersection.

I'm not talking about full on tent sets ups, but people who are just hanging around with either NO possessions or way too many possessions (like garbage bags hanging off a bike or a shopping cart), or simply just people panhandling.

Listen, I live in Irvine, I have lived here for over 13 years now and our city PD has a history of "relocating" homeless people when they show up here. The M.O. here is "there are no homeless people in Irvine." Over the last year, I have seen more homeless people here that I have in TOTAL over the last 13 years. I see at least one every day, just driving around running errands. There was one at the CVS yesterday where I got my vaccine. She had an ambulance called for her because she was behaving erratically, lying down in the aisles screaming for help. The problem is real and it has invaded even the "nice" parts of OC.

Anaheim, certainly, has seen a major increase in both homeless/vagrants/panhandling and crimes. Please, please be extra cautious and completely ignore anyone who approaches you or tries to get your attention. Do not walk anywhere alone, especially at night.

My daughter and I walked from the new JW Marriott through the Garden Walk to the Harbor entrance of DTD. We saw one homeless person but that didn’t bother us. We live in San Diego and our houseless neighbors are part of life here.

Thank you for the article!

That is terrible. I feel bad for CMs having to walk back at night. Even when we'd see them walking back at night year prior, I felt bad because they had to turn and walk down that dark alley - often alone. I wish Disney would have something set up for their safety and peace of mind.

We have opted to stay on site due to how unsafe I felt the offsite hotels were when walking back late at night. It's scary to hear it has become even worse. I hope they find a way to clean the area up by the time people start staying at the hotels off harbor.

I have walked back to my hotels all the time, usually by myself. I have never felt unsafe. My hotels of choice are usually Residence Inn, Clementine Inn, Hilton Anaheim, and Candy Cane Inn. In 20+ years, averaging 1 3-7 day every 6 weeks, I have never been accosted by any of the homeless or transients. (I do stay on site also.). Of my last 5-6 trips during this year, I have seen more homeless, they are usually congregating around the bus stops along Katella. The "closest" I have come to being "accosted" was there was a homeless woman whose belongings blocked the entire sidewalk in front of the ABC store by the Candy Cane. When I came up, I said Excuse me and she moved her stuff so I could go by.

It is sad to see the homeless counts go up. But I have seen it all over.

for the past 10+ months the Police in Downtown San Diego seem to be doing laissez faire in regards to homeless gatherings . pretty sure it will be business as usual (move along) . once things start to return to normal (based on past experience)

Thanks for all the safety info, folks! I think I'll go with a hotel this time around just to be extra cautious since I travel alone with my kiddo.

We have a significant homeless population in my town that's gotten way worse this past year along with a related crime increase from it so I'm hyper-aware of it right now.

I'm sure once things get more lively again it'll improve there too.

So does anybody have any speculation/guesses to when park reservations, hotel reservation, even more info will happen? I feel like a crazy person constantly stalking the Disneyland webpage, blog page, etc 🤣
I would hope next week making it officially a month out, but I'm worried they will do it like a week or two out. I would like to know sooner to put in time off for the thursday before (travel day) and the Friday(opening) [obviously contingent on getting reservations of course, but either way I would have to take a Thursday and Friday off ], but I doubt that will happen.

If there is some truth to the rumors started by Legoland that out of state may be welcome in Orange, my guess is they are waiting to get official decisions- one way or the other. Hopefully this week we hear more!

I’ve seen it mentioned a few times here that the guidelines are still being discussed, but I have seen no mention of that in CA. Is it wishful thinking or are our news sources just not mentioning it?

It appears to me that Legoland has just messed up their messaging - a lot. Disney, Six Flags & Great America all seem to be moving forward with the guidelines set, but maybe it’s just not something that’s being reported here.
