Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

How big is the room? So that comes to $640 a night at your higher price, so somewhere between a room at DLH and Grand. It's possible.
It’s a studio, regular hotel room size. $30 a point feels a little gougey to me... but supply and demand...

For a studio it might be a harder sell. I honestly don't know a lot about the vacation club rooms, but I do remember considering those when we went to WDW in November and thinking a studio didn't meet our family needs as well as a regular hotel room.

Side bar: what are the odds the trams will be running? Oddly enough it is one of my favorite things about going to DLR.
I think they could if they ran 1 family to a car. Not sure it is effective that way. But with only 25% it might be.

Something else I just thought of, I wonder if the Monorail will be running? They are running them at WDW 🤔

Speculation time- If attendance is limited to CA residents and IF hotel guests get priority on reservations.... do you think I could sell my VGC 3 night Memorial Day weekend reservation for $25/ point? That’d be $1600? $30 if only VGC is open with priority? That’s $1920?

Our plan has been to go regardless, and we still might, .... but now I’m almost thinking about selling and using the money to go to the Hotel Del instead.
Anything is possible. Keep in mind that there hotel features that may not be open. You could always post your rental and see what happens, though.

I would pay up to $20/point, but no more. If the hotel amenities like the pool or gym or dining were not open, it wouldn't even be worth $15/point to be honest.

And we love the Grand! But we typically stay there with a discount and there is no way I would pay $25-30 per point.

We would absolutely take a last minute trip like that, but the whole point of renting DVC is to get a deal. Those studios are smaller than standard rooms at the Grand, so I wouldn't pay the same or more for a studio vs a standard room.

I wouldn't pay more than $20 a point myself either.... but if the hotel either isn’t open or sells out and access is guaranteed, others might! Like cruisehopeful said, I could throw it up for something crazy and if someone takes it, great, if not we’ll go. Running the math, I’d have to get $25/point to cover the same 3 nights at the Hotel Del Coronado, which would be my goal. Dang that place is soooooo expensive, but we’ve never been.

Hotel Del Coronado

I had never heard of that hotel, but it is gorgeous!!! I may have to look into staying there on our next trip.

I'm definitely in the camp that says price the room as high as you want. I think you would have a good chance with it.

I don't think so. You're going to have a very limited audience (CA residents) who are already going to have to fork over money to the mouse for tickets since all APs are canceled. I don't think Disney will put hotels on priority lists without actually opening up their hotel (VGC isn't run by the hotels division) and I don't see that happening at all. If they don't open up the Grand at all (not even to check in VGC guests), then guests will lose the quick path to get to DTD since you have to go through the hotel to get to it. One can go through the pool area to get to DCA, assuming they let guests cut through that to get to DCA.

Another reason why I don't see hotels going on priority lists yet is because they'd have to figure out a way to block out CA residents from booking the hotel (a lot of people do not read the fine print when they book) so there will be a lot of upset customers who think they have priority because they have a hotel reservation, but don't meet the other qualifications (being a CA resident.)

The numbers are going down in OC, but Memorial Day is only one month after the park is expected to be open (late April) so I don't expect people to be clamoring to pay that price, especially if there is a cheaper option across the street.

I agree- if there’s not any hotel guest priority, I probably can’t get above the typical rate of $18-20 a point, which at that point, we’ll just use the reservation ourselves.

Thats a good point about not opening the hotels to prevent confusion. I wonder if they’d restrict hotel guests to just make it clearer.

But I also think they will open at least one to bring in the cash and let more cast members get back to work. Like it was stated in the other thread.... lots of people from Northern CA need a place to stay and many others from SoCal stay nearby as well. It makes sense (to me) to open the Grand since they are already committed to opening the Villas. But time will tell. I gotta think (hope) once we get a firm opening date, hotel details will come too.

Even though I live fairly close by, we are hoping for a hotel to open. We wanted to make a vacation out of our first time back. It will be a bonus if they offer guaranteed reservations for on property guests.

We honeymooned there many years ago. It’s a straight shot down I-8 from Tucson. It is a classic hotel on a beautiful beach.

We drive so much in California that we prefer to do hotel stays on vacations anywhere :rotfl: . I even get hotels for work some tech weeks so I don't have to drive so far on long days. Seriously. My daily commute in the before times was 80 miles (anywhere from 2-4 hours drive time total) minimum round trip. And that was a short commute compared to some!

But actually seriously speaking: that is a good point others have that opening the on site hotels to general guests could add confusion if out of state are able to book rooms while the theme park resident restriction is in place. Not that Disney hasn't put their CMs in the line of fire multiple times, but that's an easily avoidable one. But! You're right. They are opening the villas so it would make sense to open the rest of GCH at least. If only that hotel, maybe a guaranteed entry for length of stay?

Frankly, though, I think if you're out of state they should do a courtesy expiration extension on VGC points. That's beyond cruel to let one come look, but not touch on Disney's part. It's within their power (within the DVC branch, of course) to make those concessions.

As a contrasting thought, since capacity for the parks will be limited, it'd be a pretty nice gesture of Disney to not open their hotels and allow the limited capacity of people able to come to the parks to stay in the nearby hotels. Give them some much needed income flow.

What would you do...I know this is speculation, and July is a few months away, but my sister rented VGC from Dave's Vacation Rentals in December 2019 for July 2020. Obviously that didn't happen and she was able to move the reservation to July 2021. The reservation was just confirmed, however, we are from WA state. The room has already been paid for. This was supposed to be a once in a lifetime trip, now it looks like we will be there, but unable to go to the parks. We are supposed to be there for a whole week. Any advice, knowing that we can't cancel the reservation without losing the money and they aren't easily moved.
