Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Only can read the tea leaves so far ahead.

As far as the vaccine; the initial Pfizer allocation was disclosed throughout the 5 regions. He didn't label which region is which though. I suppose Region 1 is Southern California just by the sheer #. What's interesting is that he later stated that future allocations will be done directly by Pfizer and health systems -- yet he said in the Q+A that there's going to be a fair queue and no 'jumping the line' -- not sure how that's going to be administered from Sacramento.

Meanwhile Moderna is relying on McKesson to distribute.

[Mod edit: Deleted comment about DLR requiring proof of COVID vaccination]

Disney can’t open the parks with a vaccine requirement. It would also be hypocritical seeing as how they had a measles outbreak (which is much more severe than COVID for the majority of people) and didn’t suddenly start requiring measles vaccine proof.

They should wait until the vaccine isn’t too scarce to get a hold of and then slowly open up park capacity. It’s the most rational way forward. With a 95% efficacy you are talking about an unlikely scenario that someone who took the vaccine gets COVID, and then an unlikely scenario that they they suffer life threatening symptoms.

Not to mention that the vaccinated person who falls in that unfortunate 5% bracket will still likely carry partial resistance, which means it’s even more unlikely they will have life threatening symptoms.

If the vaccine starts becoming a mandatory thing all you are doing is injecting young healthy people with something that would otherwise be going into the arm of the sick and old.

Given above (post #8030) ... I am beginning to wonder if my reservation at the Grand Cal, checking in on 12/17, will hold. Eeinie, Meenie, Miney, Mo ...
I have a mid January and am getting concerned about it too. Hopefully, we will both be ok!
This article (https://news.yahoo.com/californias-stay-home-order-allows-010757670.html) raises some good questions which may not be fully answered until the new Regional Stay At Home Order actually goes into effect somewhere. Hoping that we get some accurate answers before then so everyone can make decisions about their trips.

Just got a call from DVC. I was signed up for the annual condo association meeting at Disneyland next week. They called to let me know that the meeting was cancelled (or postponed). Since I had the rep on the phone, I asked about vgc opening this weekend. She said that it will not be opening and all reservations through 12/31 are being cancelled and to keep watching for past that time.

will post over in official thread too!

Just looked online. There was tons of availability for Dec yesterday and now not one night in any category all month. It looks like they’ve pulled it all back. Wonder when/if they will tell people with reservations!

It also says “Disney Vacation Club is delaying the reopening of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa as we further review the new regional stay at home order announced by the State of California on December 3.”

We have reservations 1/9. I feel it won’t reopen until at least late Jan now. Let’s say a miracle occurs and the 3 weeks makes a huge impact. It seems like they will then announces new date 2-4 weeks after that.

my reservation is for 1/14 so just after you. I don’t honestly believe it will happen. And these are points that expire 1/31 that were previously banked. So looking at losing these 12 points, 5 borrowed that should go back. Sigh.

I think bwvbound is going in about 2 weeks. I got the impression that they were calling guests to let them know. I suspect they will call in order of reservation so will be interested to see if she gets a call.

I've been cancelled again! Received the email:

Dear DVC Member,

On December 3, the State of California announced new regional stay at home guidelines. As a result, we’re delaying the reopening of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa while we evaluate the guidance. Regrettably, your upcoming reservation has been cancelled.

We apologize for the inconvenience. As we anticipate high call volume in the days ahead, we encourage you to use the Disney Vacation Club website for general information. If you would like to book a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation or modify an existing reservation, you may do so through the Member Online Booking Tool.

While we know this news is disappointing, we look forward to when we can welcome you back home and make magical memories together once more.

Sincerely,

Disney Vacation Club

Different news outlets are saying different things, but the general idea seems to be that the San Joaquin Valley and Southern CA regions have low enough available ICU capacity to trigger the new Stay At Home order. According to Gothic Rosie, if the numbers remain this low by 12:59 pm PT tomorrow (Saturday), then the new restrictions will go into effect 24 hours from then (i.e. Sunday afternoon).

From the L.A. Times (regarding the San Joaquin Valley and Southern CA regions), "Friday’s numbers do not trigger the stay-at-home order. But if the percentages remain below 15% on Saturday, the order would be triggered as early as Sunday."

DH and I live in Winter Garden Fl, which is practical in Mickey's backyard. We are AP holders, and just spent yesterday at Epcot for the Festival of the holidays. Snacking around the world showcase.. We have been to Disneyland and loved it.. Total Disney Nerds...

I have a milestone birthday next year, and I would like to take a family trip. Sharing this trip would be DH and myself, our DD, SIL and little Grandson who would be 6 at the time of the trip.

We would of course get the vaccine and have no problem carrying a card and showing it to prove our vaccination.

I am really just wondering if even thinking about putting Disneyland and San Diego Zoo, on the list is even realistic?

As well we know several CM here, and alot of them think that Disneyland may never re-open, that it would be easier, and more cost effective to dismantle the park, and move and distribute it between the current parks... possible even another location to set up another park... ? of course is all just talk, and peoples opinions or thoughts whirling about... yet it makes you wonder what will happen...?

So my question is should we put Disneyland on the table or take it off ?

Thanks...

Interesting. So I guess "outdoor dining" is still allowed as long as that just means you bring your own food to a table and bus it yourself when you are done. That might actually make Disney consider opening more QS restaurants in DCA and opening up more sections of the park for dining and shopping. Would allow them to increase capacity as a whole and spread out demand in the shops if they open more.
