Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

OK, I'm totally dumbfounded. Is going to Disneyland really all that different from going to a ski resort? Is it? REALLY? I mean, sure, the actual skiing could not be more safe. Lots of fresh air, plenty of distancing between guests. But it is, by its nature, VERY cold, and when it gets cold, you head inside. While outside skiing could not be more safe, inside the lodge is a germ-fest; always has been, always will be. You HAVE TO TRAVEL to go skiing. Almost nobody lives within 20 miles of any ski lift.

Not knocking the ski industry - LOVE snowboarding, and GOOD FOR THEM! Why is Disney being treated SO differently though? It's night and day;

I live within 20 miles of a ski lift...in Utah! Californians have again infiltrated our area. Our small local ski resort had a parking lot bulging with California license plates and nearly hour-long lift lines all weekend. Newsom once again succeeds in pushing all tourism dollars out of state.

I still think/hope we will get more info from the State regarding theme parks mid-January. I'm in LA and as much as it stinks that we're back to a strict SAH order, this one now allows businesses to be open where they weren't before. Each time they dial back, I hope it's not to zero. That way progress (even sloooooooww progress) is made.

Anyone think Avengers Campus will open when the rest of Disneyland does? When WDW reopened, wait times were a lot shorter at first, so I want to go to Disneyland soon after it reopens, whenever that is.
See the post below for a fun update.

Oooo 👀 You can only access the carts but it’s something lol

That's the case with every business that is closed, while others are open. Governments just don't know what is best, and there is no perfect way for everyone. They have to find a balance between:
- what science would dictate: Close everything right now and keep it closed for a month.
- what economy wants: Open everything up
- what people can handle and how long they can handle it. From: Yes, it sucks but I will suffer through it. / I want to help, but I also want to live my life. / This is nonsense, no one tells me what to do.

You posted a very balanced viewpoint; thank you. My only quibble is I would replace the word "science" with "risk-averse lawyers". "Science" doesn't dictate closing everything--it would actually support a more balanced viewpoint that protects those at highest risk while allowing other activities to continue uninhibited.

Given above (post #8030) ... I am beginning to wonder if my reservation at the Grand Cal, checking in on 12/17, will hold. Eeinie, Meenie, Miney, Mo ...

I have a mid January and am getting concerned about it too. Hopefully, we will both be ok!

Just cancelled my San Diego trip for 12/27. Although it felt like we could socially distance easily in our VRBO... we decided to respect CA wishes for no non essential travel.

I’m going to wait a few days to make a decision about VGC for Jan. If the hotel doesn’t open this weekend, I’ll cancel it. Maybe. Doing so under 30 days makes me nervous even though holding is not happening now.

In related news, Phoenix shut down all the sports fields for everyone in response to a huge soccer tournament last weekend with tons of CA teams.

Orange County is now under a very restrictive stay at home order for 3 weeks. No outdoor dining, and new travel restrictions. Also there is only 20% allowed in retail. I wonder what DtD will do, it should close at this point.
I thought I saw a tweet saying no regions are moved there yet?

I don't think any regions have moved yet. I got distracted from the presser but the quotes I've read said he indicated: Four of the five regions will reach the threshold by next week, with some (presumably So. Cal region) reaching in the next day or two. And San Fran, reaching the threshold by the end of the month.

Not yet, but likely to happen in the next 2 weeks at some point.
