Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

So, if OC comes off the state watch list -- what does that mean for Disneyland? Or is that to be part of some future announcement from the Governor when he discusses phases for opening various venues. Having trouble following it all!

It means nothing until the governor says theme parks can reopen. However, he may say "theme parks can only reopen in counties that are off the watchlist" so at that point, OC being off the watchlist would be a positive thing.

In the larger picture, it means that the virus isn't running rampant in the county and you can feel reasonably safe about visiting here.

Various media outlets reporting OC could be off the state watch list Sat. OC Register linkThis could start the two week clock for k-12 to all head back to school by Labor Day. While we know the watchlist means little and everything changes next week this would still be positive for OC. (And personally I hope that what’s positive for OC is positive for DLR )

This is what I'm crossing my fingers for. Day 2 of distance learning has me wanting to day drink already.

Disneyland Parks direction have been held in limbo at the mercy of being on the watch list. If Orange County can get their act together and stay off the list for 14 days DL/DCA along with the hotels can finally open.

It's not that simple at all. Coming off the list primarily means schools can resume in person instruction (after 14 consecutive days being off the list). Schools are priority #1 for OC right now. Next week new guidelines will be released by the governor that outline the new reopening guidance for different business sectors along with waiting period requirements between category openings.

I just got off the phone with WDTC and modified our dates to be October 25-31 staying at The Tropicana. They did keep our Park Hopper tickets on the vacation package, but took away MaxPass. Not sure if that indicates any plans that they have for when they reopen. Maybe park hopping will still be allowed???

I also was pricing out AA flights from Chicago to Orange County for various weeks in October two days ago. The same flights doubled in price compared to two days ago So we might have to pay more for flights than what we originally had to for our August 28 - September 3 dates.

We have flights booked to both Orlando and Orange County from Portland, OR for the same week in November (Going to DL if they open by then and if not DW). I check the prices every couple days to see if the prices drop at all so I can cancel and rebook for less points. Its gotten to the point where flights are almost twice as many points to Orlando and about 25% more to Orange County. So prices are definitely going up.

As @DLgal said in the short term it means nothing for DL. I don’t see the state allowing Theme Parks open until more of the state is off the watch list and for a significant time period of several months.

Hence parks pivoting to outdoor festival/zoo parks. SeaWorld opening Aug 28. Knott's expanding to full park outdoors.

If no state guidance coming, only time Disney makes a move locally with orange county.

I wouldn't put anything right now on the parks won't open for "a significant time period of several months." Yes, there is a lot of data they are working with and lists that counties need to come off. BUT, Disney is very good at Magical Surprises. Yes, you could be right about your assessment, but you may not. That's the fun about this thread. I wouldn't put anything past Disney in the reopening the parks department. I don't think it's a coincidence Iger is on the state reopening committee. I have a feeling they are doing alot more behind the scenes than we know. Keeping fingers crossed for a sooner than several month away reopening. Nothing is impossible.

Hey - I’m originally from Chicago! . I’ve noticed that airfares have gone up all over the place. For example, yesterday I priced some flights from Chicago to Paris for my mom next spring and they were high. RT to Tokyo in October were around $750. Recently they were closer to $500 :-(.

Update on this: I spoke with some Hospitality CMs this evening at DTD to let them know that we are totally supportive of the safety protocols which Disney has put in place and of how Disney is enforcing them. One of the CMs actually teared up and said that he needed to hear that "so badly" today. All the CMs agreed that they greatly appreciated the support and weren't hearing enough of it (or very much of it recently). And all of them have heard of the DIS Boards and were very pleased to discover that they and the safety protocols have a lot of support here. Please send in your comments and (for those who are visiting DTD) tell them that you want and appreciate these rules and their enforcement. It was very touching to see how grateful these CMs were to hear that they are supported in their efforts.

Yes, Very true. It is not up to Disney. It is up to the state. I would be kind of surprised if they opened up a bit without rides like Knott's. I have a feeling they would be a mostly open the parks or not open at all kind of thing. Like open the theme parks with rides, but no shows, parades, meet and greets etc. Ala Disneyworld. I'm sure there are people who would love to just be able to walk around inside the park. Not me. It would be kind of depressing still without the rides. Thanks for the reply.

My guess is we will find out more next week about when theme parks can reopen and we will see them allowed to reopen by mid September at the latest.

I think that is a given, along with admission limits, advance reservations, etc. I do not see this happening before November, at the earliest. Too much of the state is still in watch list status and there are too many holidays coming up that will cause spikes in cases because people have either not figured out that gathering are the cause of the spread or they just don't care.

I’ve heard Disney Springs has been chaos, you couldn’t pay me enough money to deal with what those poor cms are dealing with. I feel so much for anyone working in customer service right now and dealing with all of this.

I'm not very computer savvy, but **************.net had an article yesterday about putting plexi glass up at the entry gates of Disneyland Park. It's a good read. Question for all of you all.... Who out there in Disboards land are excited about funny things like plexiglass being installed?! I don't know about you guys, but I am! One step closer!!!!!
