Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

That was my first thought, too. Parking garages or more retail to expand DTD.

Tropicana and Camelot Inn are part of the BEI hotel chain so they may be saved from going under. Candy Cane was developed and owned by a wealthy Central Valley rancher so that may also be protected.
I know that there are plans to build a parking structure on the Pumbaa lot and Disney owns or has rights to buy one of the long narrow hotels on that side - can't remember which one. The plan was to tear down that hotel and provide access to the promenade through that corridor. As with everything Disney, I'm sure those plans have changed, and the more of those hotels they can acquire the more options they will have.

The mockups looked really cool -- like Space mountain type theming flyover walkways and pad.
I think that was presented to county in the past with a redo of the whole harbor side entrance and got deep-six'd right along the time with the resort on the opposite side of DtD.

Hmmm...I think everyone in this thread will be pleasantly surprised in the next 10 days with re-opening news :) Spoiler alert: it will be before January 2021 and much sooner actually.

You can't just say things like this without citing SOME sort of source.

I shared OFFICIAL government guidance. I am not authorized to view the actual document but my husband was quite clear when I said "I heard theme parks may be opening soon." He said "Uh, that is NOT going to happen this year, according to the actual Governor." I then asked him to elaborate and he told me where the information came from and what it said. He has no reason to lie. As I said, that guidance was sent out yesterday, as an official document.

I sure hope next weeks new guidance changes things. But don't come on here with this kind of cryptic statement without at least sharing your own credentials.

If theme parks aren’t allowed to reopen until 2021 do you think theme parks would fight the decision to reopen earlier? Kind of like what other sectors are doing to reopen (ie schools, salons, churches).

Asking you a second time, please provide an official source or link for your information. This is not FB or Reddit.

Bingo.

I’m happy to not be as invested in Disneyland reopening as I was. There have been way too many ups and downs in the DLR reopening saga. I’m currently halfway on my drive across country to my new home in Orlando. Already have plans to go to Disney World on Sunday!

But I’m still very interested in whats going on in California. For you guys and family and friends I’m leaving behind. The rumor about it possibly not reopening until 2021 is insane. Especially with WDW showing that it can be done safely. I never thought when I left Disneyland on the last night it was open on March 13th that it was even a possibility that it would be the last day the parks would be open in 2020. As has been stated a million times.... what a strange year.

Good luck in FL and have an extra awesome time on Sun for us depressed Californians!

Thanks. I’m super excited about being able to explore WDW as a local like I was able to at Disneyland for so many years. You’re really able to appreciate more of the little things at the parks that you might miss when you’re on vacation trying to make every moment count.

But make no mistake, as someone who has lived in California all my life I’m still kinda depressed about the situation there. I still have my Sig AP to Disneyland and I plan on making a trip back to Cali as soon as the parks reopen.

Sea World is pulling a Knotts and is opening just outdoor areas. Rides and indoor attractions will remain closed. I am really curious to see if Disney does something similar.
Aug 28th - Okay; ready to spend out dollars locally; family friend took pics today of DLR gates in the sweltering heat. Come on Mickey---let us spend it on the Mouse, but Shamu getting some next weekend.

This is one reason why I think it is important for people to send in comments of support to let DLR management know that there is support for mask compliance and that there is more support than the media would show for CM enforcement. If management knows that there are lots of us out there who actually want safety, compliance, and enforcement (call us crazy! -- hey, who doesn't want to be safe?), that can help them in making decisions.
Update on this: I spoke with some Hospitality CMs this evening at DTD to let them know that we are totally supportive of the safety protocols which Disney has put in place and of how Disney is enforcing them. One of the CMs actually teared up and said that he needed to hear that "so badly" today. All the CMs agreed that they greatly appreciated the support and weren't hearing enough of it (or very much of it recently). And all of them have heard of the DIS Boards and were very pleased to discover that they and the safety protocols have a lot of support here. Please send in your comments and (for those who are visiting DTD) tell them that you want and appreciate these rules and their enforcement. It was very touching to see how grateful these CMs were to hear that they are supported in their efforts.

I will be sure and do this. I'll be going Labor Day weekend.

Various media outlets reporting OC could be off the state watch list Sat. OC Register linkThis could start the two week clock for k-12 to all head back to school by Labor Day. While we know the watchlist means little and everything changes next week this would still be positive for OC. (And personally I hope that what’s positive for OC is positive for DLR :) )

Disneyland Parks direction have been held in limbo at the mercy of being on the watch list. If Orange County can get their act together and stay off the list for 14 days DL/DCA along with the hotels can finally open.

https://www.ocregister.com/2020/08/...ould-start-countdown-for-in-person-schooling/
Even if OC comes off the list, the state still has to release theme park guidance. And I don't know if DL/DCA would be allowed to reopen until LA County also comes off the list or at least gets things further under control. Gov Newsom has made it clear he's not going to be bullied by private organizations into reopening too quickly. The article also said that while schools may be able to reopen, business and other locations would still be restricted.

Oh and trust me, I want Disneyland to reopen so badly. I miss it with every fiber of my being (I'm a local and would go a couple times a month). But I also know with our numbers, it's probably not the best idea.

So, if OC comes off the state watch list -- what does that mean for Disneyland? Or is that to be part of some future announcement from the Governor when he discusses phases for opening various venues. Having trouble following it all!

I just got off the phone with WDTC and modified our dates to be October 25-31 staying at The Tropicana. They did keep our Park Hopper tickets on the vacation package, but took away MaxPass. Not sure if that indicates any plans that they have for when they reopen. Maybe park hopping will still be allowed???

I also was pricing out AA flights from Chicago to Orange County for various weeks in October two days ago. The same flights doubled in price compared to two days ago :( So we might have to pay more for flights than what we originally had to for our August 28 - September 3 dates.
