Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

SWGE is basically set up the same at both parks. For DL, ROTR can back up all the way to Critter Country. And MFSR could extend out towards Fantasyland or through the BTMRR walkway.

But with DL keeping Virtual Queues and MaxPass on the app, those will still be a consideration.
I check every time the app updates to see if these two things are still there :)

I would bet even money at this point that they don’t open. Or end up closing again shortly after open.

This is what I wonder about and the logistics of closing again versus just maybe accepting that they need to give it a little more time. If they have to close again, they could end up affecting far more people than pushing it out a few weeks at a time.

I can’t believe Disney is still (apparently) going ahead with opening of WDW given the current situation in Florida.
I think in Florida it's a double edge sword. Florida's unemployment system is the worsted in the country. We furloughed some people at my work from all over the US and the ones furloughed in Florida were the last to get their unemployment checks. So theme park employees may just want to go back to work and get paid then have to deal with the unemployment system.

Plus as a few vloggers have stated - WDW is much bigger than Disneyland. It's going to be hard to social distance in Disneyland while it's a little easier in WDW.

Saw this floating around social media today.

No real new information we didn’t already know but more cast member perspectives. It does seem to be the hold up with those remaining unions is they want on-site covid testing.

This is just not feasible given the size of the workforce. Orange County is currently experiencing a testing shortage. At this time, doctors are not allowed to order testing unless patients require hospitalization (this is as recent as this past weekend) We never even got beyond testing 4,000 per day. There are literally NO available tests for DL employees to have "onsite testing" unless they procure testing from an outside contractor and even then, there are limitations. Right now, there is ONE location in Westminister where individuals can pay out of pocket for a test, if needed. Otherwise, there is something like a 5-7 day wait time at the "public test sites."

Also, OC has adjusted their testing counts and admitted they were including antibody tests in the numbers, so they removed those (25k tests, approx) and now our positivity rate is around 9.6%. :(

Until some company develops and mass produces a rapid test that can be given by people with no medical background, Disney employees are not gonna get tested regularly.

I’m just kind of lost. Why won’t they report what these numbers mean for us? Why won’t they tell us why testing positive is detrimental and to whom? Why won’t they give us more context about the virus. I’m happy to see that death rates and trends are really low, but I still wanna know how bad “having it” and “enduring it” is. I feel like we’re not being told everything we need to know to be prepared to protect ourselves the best way possible.

What are you asking, exactly? We already know what this virus does to people. That information is out there.

There's entire sections on most major/reputable news sites that answer all of these questions. All of the questions you listed above have been discussed ad nauseum across the major sources I read (NY Times, LA Times, WSJ, Bloomberg, and SF Chronicle). Overall, NYT and LAT have the most complete coverage IMO, so I would start there (their paywall is removed for COVID coverage).

The problem is they never include this information when reporting or discussing the cases- it’s solely just how many new cases. But then they blame people for not taking it seriously when there are many people who cannot see how it effects their counties or society as a whole except for a few stories here and there. I’m speaking to why people are “ignoring” the risks. Can you blame them if all anyone tells them about this virus is that there are “x” amount of cases but don’t mention the death rate and what the rising numbers mean. Of course I know what the numbers mean, but I’m frustrated that we expect most people to just fill in the gaps on their own. I see so many reports and people saying how serious it is, but not why. Also, I don’t think we should leave people to interpretative data on their own- it’s irresponsible.

But who is just relying on daily test numbers for all their information?

Also, the OC health department .gov page has ALL kinds of data with breakdowns of hospitalizations and deaths by different demographics. There is a ton of information posted once you actually go to the site.

I should clarify when I say I’m “lost” I’m speaking to the concern of having access to testing at their workplace on site everyday for all of them. I, too, realize that it is not as easy as just providing tests everyday and felt like that’s quite the ask for their workplace.
