I called the Grand Californian to ask about pool cabanas and got some random thoughts from a cast member I thought I'd share here. She told me they weren't taking reservations yet but the instant 'our opening date is confirmed' she recommended calling ASAP because that's when all dining/cabana/etc. reservations will become available. I asked her, 'oh I thought we already had an opening date?' and she replied 'we can't make any reservations until we get that state approval so we're all just waiting right now'

Another interesting tidbit, when I was asking her about the pool set up/cabanas/etc. she mentioned the bar might be open but not the grill. And then followed up with 'actually, it's hard to say but I've heard not all dining will be available right away'

So take with a grain of salt but thought I'd share here.

I think so. I think the only counties not in it are some of the Bay Area counties. I could be wrong though. The stages are so confusing here.

Lol yeah my aunt used to live in Livermore (I think that's Alameda county?), and she said she's not shocked they are still closed.

This is curious to me as it seems like the AP clock will restart on park opening, which is different from Shanghai.

My guess is it will be subject to additional extensions going forward, but this is something to watch for. IMO restarting the clock when capacity restrictions are in place opens DLR up to potential litigation, as previously discussed.

This is precisely why my nephew pulled the plug on our rebooked WDW DVC trip. We have 5 AP vouchers (4 Gold and my Platinum that we use twice in each yearly cycle). Once SDL opened with their hold on AP accrual days during initial phases, we thought the clock wouldn't start on our APs during our shortened July 28th through Aug 2rd trip. Since we would have likely been in an initial phase with severely modified experiences, park time and limited AP perks, we'd hoped Disney would due us a solid. The extensions being reported yesterday seemed to put the kibosh on that thought though. It definitely looks as though the U.S. park goers are not going to receive the same generosity they are seeing oversees.

Edit: Since our trip was already shorted from 10 days to 5 and our not returning until next summer for maybe a 10 day trip, my Platinum pass would have definitely not been worth the money I paid. Without being able to purchase a 5 day ticket instead for this go around, it's best for me not to start the AP clock until next summer. Now it's a waiting game on DLR for later this year.

I think something like 50% of reopened restaurants in LA County failed to adhere to any social distancing guidelines on inspection.

And then you have that giant high school graduation gathering (Mira Costa in Manhattan Beach) that claimed to be a BLM protest, just so they could gather . They had hula hoops, and one of the parents was interviewed and said if the police showed up, they would claim it was an exercise class

However, I'm bullish on how DL will handle it, I think there will be strict enforcement. But even with the smoking/vaping ban, people still snuck it in and managed to get a few puffs off.

So the governor of California issued a statewide order for masks. Prior to this local governments could decide, which is how Orange County was able to rescind, however I am not sure if now they have to bring it back with the state order?

But yes, it looks like this would override the more relaxed "recommendations" of Orange County and other California counties that do (did) not have mandatory requirements.

ETA: In looking closer at the order, it applies to anyone in indoor spaces or in line to enter an indoor space, or anyone in outdoor spaces where maintaining 6 feet of social distancing is not possible. Both of these would appear to cover the whole of DL. People who are eating at restaurants or swimming do not have to wear a mask, provided they maintain 6 feet of distance.

Ooooo in my dorky profession of English teachers we would call that a 'happy, chill' font. Maybe to try and make the announcement less severe for those opposed?

Honestly, this is a good thing. I've been really worried seeing all the cases rise in CA and was starting to rethink our trip. I wish our state would do this. My county has been awesome about requiring masks and everyone following suit so we've been in a great position with our cases numbers. Others around us... not so much.

Now we know masks are also required in the airports, transportation (including the ART buses if they're running), etc. Another interesting thing to note, the consequence for not wearing a mask on the plane (like taking it off when you sit down and not putting it back on, etc.) is going to be more severe now with the potential of being banned from future flights if not complying.

But the real question is, what is the enforcement mechanism and does it have teeth? The closest thing we have to State police would be the California Highway Patrol. But this is a step in the right direction, at least local health authorities can just put their hands up and say "the state is requiring it" in case more death threats are thrown their way (again).

Same sort of issue above, there was a public spat on an AA flight with someone refusing to wear a mask and getting kicked off the flight. Apparently, he was accommodated later on AA and he claimed he used a medical reason to avoid wearing a mask.

It's going to be like the vaccination issues where someone will claim a medical reason and keep their fingers crossed in their back pocket. All it takes is one person, and that flight will be tainted.

I feel like that’s how the mask order has been enforced where I live in LA.

I should also add maybe LA isn’t the best example Of mask enforcement since we have been having spikes in cases and have been out of compliance with restaurants lol

They don’t because the state order covers the whole state. Whether some places will try to enforce it who knows? The order doesn’t have penalties in it so if a county wanted penalize I guess then they would need their own order (which I can’t imagine they do after all they went through but who knows?)

My takeaway is everyone going to DLR should be prepared to wear a mask at all indoor locations in CA, but should be aware other people may or may not abide by that.

Anyone else out there starting to wonder if they may delay the actual opening of WDW & DL? Both FL & AZ are appearing to be national hotspots and California (with I'm sure many from AZ looking to travel to Cali for DL) has seen a pretty good rise in cases lately as well. I know all states still seem to be moving forward with their re-opening plans but in another 2-3 weeks I wonder what these numbers will look like and if there will begin to be talk of not allowing large venues like theme parks actually open up.

FYI to premier passholders, my pass just updated in MDE (no update on the Disneyland app yet). It added 125 days, which is long Disneyland will have been closed for. I did my premier pass upgrade at a Disneyland ticket booth for reference.

I bought mine outright, not upgraded, at the DLR ticket booths and had 119 days, from the start of the DLR closure to the day WDW opens, added. I wonder if they’re treating passes upgraded from as DLR pass differently?
