Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

My thoughts on sanitation at DL & going on rides at DL in this new normal:

  • Pay attention to Youtube around 7/11 when 2 of the WDW parks reopen. There will be a bunch of video by bloggers/vloggers showing what the procedures are and all that.
  • Hand sanitizer will probably be stationed everywhere...at entry to rides and after.
  • Bring your own hand sanitizer. Like an 8 oz bottle of it.
  • Use hand sanitizer before you get on a ride and immediately after as well. Don't touch your face in between.
  • Bring some sanitizing wipes and wipe down the table and chairs when you sit down to at at a Quick Service restaurant.
  • Keep your mask on when you're supposed to (which will basically be all the time except when you're eating or drinking).
  • Expect capacity for ADRs to be probably half of what they regularly are.
  • I'd also expect capacity for Savi's Workshop to be about half of what it normally is. Same thing for the Droid Depot. They probably won't let as many people in at one time.
And, most importantly, if anyone doesn't feel ready yet to venture into a theme park right now for whatever reason, then you should NOT go.

That being said, there's some great video that @Teleclashter on the DIS Unplugged has done of opening day at Universal Studios Orlando and man, that place was basically a ghost town. Of course, we have no idea yet what it will look like at MK in WDW when it reopens on 7/11 (but we only have a month from today to find out), but if it's anything like Universal Studios Orlando, then I think it's going to be pretty fantastic.

We should all expect no character meet & greets, no ability to go up and hug characters or stuff like that. And, of course, Disney has announced no fireworks, no shows (i.e., no Frozen show, no Mickey & the Magical Map), etc. This also means no Fantasmic or World of Color. Probably no character meals either at DL (WDW is only opening ONE at the new Riviera resort) for awhile.

I strongly believe that if you go in with the proper expectations, the right mindset, and some patience, that you will have a FANTASTIC time.
We plan to do just that and *hope* that it will be a great trip!

I’m kicking myself because two days ago we were booked DLH beginning 9/25 and then switched to the Grand before the announcements. Bummed to miss out on that free upgrade! 😂

Oh this is good to know... im on hold now trying to sort this out as I have reservations for DLH in September and trying to move to GCH

Good luck! Sounds like lots of people had this experience so hopefully works out for you!

I wonder if we’ll see any reduced rates from the Grand for other guests?

I know everything is still so unknown and everything is up in the air. But what is everyone speculating on how difficult reservations will be to get? Will they sell out instantly? Do people think on site will have priority? If you have a hotel reservation before the closure, can you modify the date even though they arent accepting new reservations?

What free upgrade?

I was one. When I called yesterday they told me an email was going out to those booked before 9/30 with options and read it to me where it said complimentary upgrade to the Grand, but the system was down, so she couldn't do it for me.

When I called back, they were able to do it for me and I am not paying anymore than I was. They did say if the Grand didn't have availability, they were asking if people were ok with PPH, but she was able to make the Grand work for us.

And I haven't gotten the email, so it's probably worth asking about when you call in.

He's offering me a standard view at GCH but the room I had at DLH was a club level room which they have blocked all club level rooms at this point. Its pretty disappointing.

Im guessing the first few weeks they will be impossible to get and then will probably be a little more easy to get. Especially if you book far enough out in the future.

Ugh we have a GCH reservation for 7/27 - 8/1 that has been rescheduled 3 times by now. I will be very disappointed if it's not possible to get reservations.

I have heard Club Level is being suspended for awhile. I would at least push for an upgraded view room at GCH or a discount if your DLH club room is more expensive than a GCH standard room.

Well I would assume if you have a on site reservation you might be guaranteed entry to one of the parks at least for some of days.

I'm curious to see what they do for people who get reservations to a park and then want to take a mid-day break back at their hotel. Will they be able to re-enter the same park later on in the day? I'm hoping we get reservations for each day of our trip since we booked a good neighbor hotel through Disneyland's website. I'm a little worried though because we don't get our tickets until we check-in to the hotel. Anybody think that they will be sending digital tickets through email in order for people to make park reservations?

Bummer. We actually had a similar situation. We had a 2 bedroom suite at the DLH booked and they don't show any availability of suites the GCH, so with permission from her supervisor, we agreed on two rooms at the GCH (I was offered a 2 bedroom at PPH, but wasn't interested) - they more than made up for the difference to me.

This. I heard the same. I also wonder if they actually sold all the suites that the GCH (they were available right before the system went offline and were gone when it came back up), or if they took them out inventory to actually book later, instead of upgrading into. But my CM escalated to her supervisor, who got me a compromise I'm happy with.

I just got off the phone. Was on hold 2 hours and 5 minutes...I really don't mind that at all and was expecting to be on hold much longer.

We had a deluxe room booked the DLH. They upgraded us to a deluxe room at the GCH for no additional cost. The CM did note that it would take some time to adjust the pricing because they have to submit paperwork for them to honor the lower price from the DLH. I checked and yes, our reservation changed to the GCH and yes, the pricing is higher still. So I will just keep an eye on it to make sure it adjusts back to the lower pricing.

I am very pleased with this outcome, although still bummed about not being at the DLH. We stayed for one night last year the DLH and wanted to go on the pool slides, but they were working on them and we couldn't. We booked this year to have an entire day at the pool! LOL. I guess someday I will be able to use the monorail slides! ;) Good excuse to take another trip!

We had a reservation at DLH for Aug 10-14. I called to switch to the GCH and the CM tried to charge me the price difference and said the free upgrade was only for those with reservations through July 23rd. I kept pressing the free upgrade and after being put on hold twice she finally came back and said my free upgrade was approved. She was very nice, though, and said their information is changing minute to minute.
