Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Who here thinks they will make 15% tickets a special event and charge something like 400 per ticket for it?

It would price us out but I understand why they would need to. Honestly I’m thinking of just skipping Disney until the new AP and slumming it at knotts. $125 gets an annual pass to knotts and soak city. Pretty big draw with a daughter who has yet to go on a water slide.

Limited hours say eight hour shift when at 15% just to keep it simple and costs down.

By April, OC may actually be in orange already at get the 25% which seems to be operation profits based on what they did for WdW and the initial financial reports.

By the time they run up opertions DL side, touch of disney may have run its duration and they switch to f+w model for cali residents

I can see ride capacity mirror park capacity to KIS on guidance and enforcement. 1 party per cart initially and spacing with capacity when >25% hits.

Saddened that I prematurely let go both May 8 and 15th VGC dates and only kept Memorial weekend - oh well.

With all of the quirks of VGC, it was a wise move...looming deadlines on those points is anxiety central! We let go of our early June VGC reservations and punted to August and October.

I’ve yet to see what the May/June calendar looks like now, but I’m pretty confident local hotel availability will be good — it’s no VGC, but I feel less nervous about points going stale.

They have more to lose (PR-wise) by charging $400. I don’t think WDW did that.

I really think it will be lotto style and priced at their peak day ticket.

Part of me wants to enjoin this opening to comments made by President Potrock a few weeks ago...could we see a “two-shift” Disneyland? It could theoretically double the # of people passing through the turnstiles, and they’ve cleared the parks for this before (Halloween special events).

Like— 8am-3pm shift A, 3-4pm cycle the rides/clear the park, then 4pm-midnight shift B. Colored wristbands & electronic queue that locks you out at 3pm.

OR....8am-5pm, cycle/clear, and do 6/7pm-midnight for a slightly cheaper ticket. Keyword slightly (aka Twilight Ticket).

I don’t think they’ll do this, but the idea is out there.

I like the 2 1/2 day shifts. I don't think DLR wants to push the envelope either on poking covid PR.

While we're used to long days at DLR, WDW remain on curtailed hours and have not announced any plans to push hours out before the 50th in the fall.

Also the cycling will cause crowding problems for DtD and parking flows; surging it to 50% and really causing potential PR nightmares of social distancing and raising the ire of the Gov.

Right, I think we're going to see DL closely mirror what's been done at WDW. On average, Magic Kingdom was open 8AM-7PM most days when we were there in November. Hollywood Studios (which I feel more closely mirrors CA than the others..?) was open 10AM-7PM. Disney Springs always closed by 10PM.

This might be something to take note of though because your hotel might matter a bit more than it usually does because you'll be spending more time in the evenings there than before. So in my case, probably wont do the good ole Clarion and find something with a better pool or upgrade to a Disney one.

The reduced hours bum me out more than the lack of entertainment options... I love Disney at nighttime.

I'm curious and don't remember but know someone here does. With the previous guidelines (was that in July?), what capacity could they be open in yellow? The 35% in yellow seems low, and the no indoor dining in any of them seems stupid since you could walk out to DTD and eat inside a restaurant.

The no indoor dining is only while they're in the red tier... which is still silly I think. The previous capacity for yellow was 25% which is what WDW opened with. And they're at 30% now they claim.

I think the indoor dining is something that will disappear in negotiations. I don’t know how the state can enforce this when restaurants in DTD and everywhere else in the state are allowed to have indoor dining in the red tier.

Follow up question. I know previously people have speculated what capacity of DL they could hold. For example, DLH and DGC together could hold 35% the capacity of DL and DCA. Does that make sense? I'm trying to speculate that if Disney hotel guests were guaranteed admission, how full they could get the parks with those people alone.

Perspective from a "WDW Bus Driver" - Make sure you bring about your big grain of salt ;)

Back in the mid-late 90's I worked at Disneyland, where during the summer of '96 the crowd levels each day were about 90k-95k, due to the Main St. Electrical Parade "Glowing away forever". To this day, I've never seen Disneyland as busy as those times. But what it does is give us an insight into what Disneyland's true capacity is. I know that these days when we hear 65k, it is a truly busy day, but back in 1996 we didn't have fastpass, or park hopping(no DCA in 1996), which has contributed significantly to the overall feeling of "crowdedness." So one has to wonder what number they will use for capacity. If like WDW, they do away with FP, they could easily use a 99K capacity and base the percentages off of that.

Also, earlier this year, when businesses were opening back up with x% capacity, my gym's owner contacted a friend who was a fire marshal to see what the capacity was. In a 6000 sq/ft facility, the fire marshal said the capacity was 220!! I almost busted out laughing when I heard that, but the owner used that number.

Taking all of this into account, the 15% and 25% capacity could bring in many more folks than we think. Of course, the demand is going to far outstrip supply for at least a few months, which leaves us with the question of how they will adjudicate access. I'm for hoping its a lottery just like the DVC Moonlight Magic, where everyday, you get on and are assigned a spot in line.

I'm so excited!!! The bags I had packed last summer in preparation for last summers reopening snaffoo are still packed, so I brought them back out along with my ears!!!!! I'm back in the game and soooo excited!!! Which ride would you want to be the first group back on? Which land are you going to first?

Ride: Pirates
Land: DL

My guess, with no insider information, is the will use what ever "Fire Marshal" capacity is. If the fire marshal says they must cut off new admission at 75k then that is the number they will use. My understanding is that capacity is a fluid number based on number of shows, rides, shops, etc that are open on any given day.

For $33 more dollars, you can get the drink add on (every 15 minutes you can get a beverage - no bottled water).

I miss space mountain so much!!!! I honestly see why that would be your first choice! Imagine being the only party/ first group on the first car to go through when it reopens!!! 😍 Goals!
