Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Didn't stop food and wine at DCA before. Disney has shown you can entertain both kids and adults concurrently. It will be an expanded food and wine offering.

Taste of disney for sure would be the ideal headline.... Dole whip popup and bengal bbq popups are must haves. Put them by pixar pier to draw them to that side.....and perhaps, maybe, the outdoor arcade will be open! Let's make epcot jealous of dca taste of disney 😎

Um, are you forgetting that rides and shows were all open during previous Food & Wine festivals? That is what the kids got to enjoy while mom and dad enjoyed the food and wine.

That’s what I’m thinking too. But I never heard the whole “day parting” term which seems interesting...

I’m kind of excited for it, sometimes we land late and popping into DL for full price after dinner just seems wasteful. I remember using these tickets back in HS when we had conventions at DL/Anaheim, they were like $30!

Most Food+Wine attendees really didn't go with their young kids from my observations. If Disney maintains F+W selections and adds DL side staples into the mix and outdoors entertainment like those at Knott's; there will be plenty of pent up demand for that alone.

$30 6 punch paid ticket event? Easy sellout. $50 will be pushing it, but still think it'll sell quite well. We're ready :)

@MintRR - last time we saw convention tickets after 4pm it was something like $70 IIRC.

At $70 I would definitely want to be in the park before 7pm (12am close) after that I’d consider doing something else.

and I think closer to $40 than $30, but this was right as DCA was opening (the summer it opened).

From Gothic Rosie:

Second quarter is March/April. Which I think we assumed.

Masks and distancing expected to hang around all year unless we see vaccine progress sooner. I have a feeling we wouldn't see mask leniency at DL though until next year just because of the politics there... I'd expect it first at WDW.

Tbh, my personal speculation for DL opening is summer for locals and fall for tourists. I hope I'm wrong but I'm having a hard time being optimistic.

Second quarter is through end of March. Disney’s fiscal year starts the last week of September/first week of October.

Not at all surprised about masks! I never thought they’d go away this year. I’d even bet the “end of the year” is more for Florida. My guess is masks will be in CA through the end of flu season next year- so late spring/summer of 2022 is the earliest I’d plan on a mask free Disneyland myself.

I really hope they don’t start with just locals. It’s selfish on my part. But I’m fully vaccinated as of a week ago (elementary teacher- in person since 9/13). I own at VGC with a Memorial Day weekend reservation. We plan on going even if park isn’t open (assuming hotel is) but there’s no way we will go if the park is open to some. I’ll sell the reservation I guess, but I’ll probably have no trouble doing so.

Quote is from @ej119. This is in regards to the food event
Workers United Local 50, which represents Disneyland Food & Beverage cast members, has announced on its Facebook page that the new ticketed event will see dining "expanding into Cars Land, Pacific Wharf, Pixar Pier and Grizzly Peak. Six Market Place booths, operated by Festivals, are expected to open along the parade route."

California theme parks could be last to return in U.S. as New York sets reopening date

California theme parks could be the last to return from coronavirus pandemic closures in the United States now that New York has allowed theme parks to reopen and amusement parks in Illinois, Michigan and Massachusetts have set reopening dates.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that outdoor amusement parks can reopen on April 9 with 33% attendance capacity limits and a host of “new normal” COVID-19 health and safety requirements — mandatory face coverings, social distancing, temperature checks and enhanced cleaning protocols.

The reopening of New York amusement parks leaves Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, SeaWorld San Diego, Legoland California and other California theme parks wondering when they can reopen.

I haven't been watching new cases through this whole thing and there are a few people on this thread who seem really plugged in. But I just saw new cases reported today 2/17 for Orange Co. were 166. Isn't that nearly 5 per 100,000 for the first time... since tiers were introduced? And if I'm reading correctly, the positivity rate hit 2%? I know we need to be there a while before moving tiers.

Can anyone with knowledge update where we might stand? I speculate the pressure is increasing on Newsom (especially with New York making above moves). Thanks :thumbsup2

Your move Newsom... I think it's long overdue to see an update here... like perhaps re-evaluating the tiers?

Correct. Today was the first day we met both case rate and positivity metrics for Red Tier. However we also need to meet "health equity quartile" metrics and we currently do not yet. That one is tricky because the state only updates it weekly, so day to day, we don't know where that stands.

Best guess now is qualify for Red Tier in early March, moved to red tier by 3rd or 4th week of March. If the trend holds, we will qualify for Orange tier almost as soon as we are moved into Red Tier and the 2 week countdown will commence.

Great info, thank you! :thumbsup2

I was in old town Sacramento two weeks ago and it was a hot mess. No stores were monitoring the number of guests inside. No markers on the ground of where to stand. Masks not worn properly or not at all on the busy sidewalks. No one knew what 6 feet apart was. And, there were two carnival rides set up. I was quite irritated at the lack of safety precautions that we left.

ETA: I have been to DTD and Buena Vista street twice, and Disney makes me feel so much safer than anywhere else I have been. :)

I am hearing whispers of rumors about a possible reopening for DLR in May. Obviously, no official announcement from DL themselves, but that is after their second quarter. I also see that during the Cedar Fair earnings call they expressed confidence of a May 22 reopening date for CGA and Gilroy and this is "based on convos with government officials". What do you guys think? This is all speculation and of course this should all be contingent upon the amount of people vaccinated along with low covid numbers

I think May is definitely the most likely scenario IF the governor relents and allows theme parks to open in Orange tier. Even if we reach Orange tier in, let's say April, they will need time to prep before a grand opening. I'm thinking 3 weeks? May 15 would be a good target date.

Not Disney but Knotts posted this on their ig account 👀 I wonder if Disney will do something similar

At first I read that as "1 am" as in 1:00am instead of "I am." 😄 I thought they were announcing an opening date and time for 1:00am and I wondered how riding at 1:00am was safer than riding at 10:00am or something!

The last time I went to KBF was in Oct 2018. It was a true ghost town that day. When my sister rode Montezooma's Revenge, she was the only one on the entire ride and sat in the back. It doesn't get any safer than that!
