Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I have reservations for VGC for June 12-22. I got fantastic prices on flights from Dallas to LAX. I am going crazy trying to figure out if I should just change my flights to WDW and book there instead. I hate to wait and not be able to get any good DVC reservations at WDW, but I hate to give up the chance to go back to Disneyland. We all miss it so much!
TBH, you have a better chance w/WDW than DL for June. It's too hard to predict w/the 'science' here in CA. they may have opened up outdoor dining (again) & other outdoor stuff but you just never know when everything closes yet again. Whereas at WDW, they've been open since July 2020 & has not closed at all even w/all the tense talk about covid variants. I'm hopeful for a July2021 opening for DL (to coincide w/the DL anniversary date) but it could all just be HOT AIR knowing how our state operates.
I'm just letting you know as a CA native..:sad2:

^ Spot on. I did find it interesting that both Disney and Six Flags stepped up to offer their parking lots for vaccine distribution. That can't hurt their case, but nothing has been announced so I would not expect anything to change. If you have the option to go to WDW, I would definitely do that instead (I know I am).

Great America plans to reopen on May 22nd. https://www.cagreatamerica.com/park-update Interesting!
Santa Clara is in purple tier, so how are they planning on a May 22nd opening? Looking at some things online, it appears they wanted to reopen this month, but it has been pushed to May, so I am confused here unless they have been doing some serious negotiating with the state.

Zoo tends to be crowded and social distancing not well practiced. Sea World has been very good and improved since reopening.

Didn't go this weekend, but colleague did Safari park -- it was a bit mayhem there per her report.
I can't speak for Safari Park. Everyone has their comfort limits. I was fine with the level of people at the zoo. I rarely had issues with keeping more than 6 feet apart. Everyone was masked except for some small children and a very rare nose peaking out. It was better than when I went in the summer. When an area started to get too crowded, I just moved on.

Yeah, that is what I was wondering/hoping. Maybe there are some talks behind closed doors that we don’t know about. :)

Speaking of the Zoo. Am I right in assuming that LA is NOT eligible for a baseline annual pass there? (Our Zip codes aren’t on the list, but it seems crazy to me that they would exclude a population of 10+million people who are far enough to not want to go frequently.)

I went to the zoo yesterday. It was so nice to be out the house. It was a great experience.

They had a brand new baby giraffe that was born on Saturday, so not even a full day old when I saw him or her (not sure if it was a boy or girl)

We were there yesterday and saw the new baby too!

Maybe Cedar Fair is letting the cat out of the bag? I dunno - I would have guessed Great America would be the last to open as the 49ers can't even play at their home field - and it's in the same parking lot. The website just says that some attractions will not be open since they are not conducive to social distancing and to check the app. The app doesn't say anything.

As with everything, I'll believe it's open when it's open.

People living in codes outside of 91900-92889 can purchase memberships at the Curator’s Club level and above.

Ah bummer, it’s not worth it at that price. We would be looking at 2 maybe 3 trips for us in a year. I wonder why they have such a small radius for their passes. I would have thought it covered all of SoCal.

I'm holding onto hope to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday in June this year. Was supposed to celebrate 20th last year, but to celebrate her 21st at Disneyland would be pretty cool. She's not holding her breath, but I'm hopeful.
Same here! My daughter turns 21 on June 26 :)

So, OC as of yesterday meets the Red tier criteria for positivity percentage at 7.8%. Of course the cases per 100k is still at 40.8 and needs to get down to 7, but 14 days ago it was 85, so it's decreased by more than 50% in 2 weeks. The decline has been dramatic and if it continues at this rate, we should be out of purple tier before the end of the month.

Moving in the right direction!

BREAKING NEWS:

A bipartisan assembly bill will be introduced shortly that seeks to override Newsom's Yellow tier placement for large theme parks. The bill requires that ALL theme parks in the state be allowed to open in the Orange tier. The bill is being introduced by lawmakers that represent both OC and LA county.

This would be amazing news if this passes the legislature! OC can be in Orange tier as soon as late March!

There is a story in the OC register, but its behind a paywall as usual so not going to bother linking it. It's all over Twitter as well.

As soon as late March?! Holy smokes. I expected to have to wait until late 2021 before going back, so was planning on being there when it first opened (if allowed). If it opens that early, we'll probably need to hold the trip off by quite a few months before feeling comfortable going back. While I want Disneyland to open quickly, that's a little too fast for us personally.

Oooooh boy! This is getting interesting. I have VGC re-booked for the 4th time for my mother/son trip on 4/17. I had pretty much written it off. But to quote Jim Carey.... so you’re telling me there’s a chance?!

We also have a Memorial Weekend trip that I was thinking would be hotel only at best. I’ll be crossing my fingers! I get my second vaccine tomorrow!

Yep. The lawmakers who drafted the bill said that if they have wait for Yellow tier, they may never be able to reopen. If they change it to Orange tier, they expect all theme parks to be able to open "by summer." I assume LA county parks would be last to reopen, but OC is seeing dramatic declines in case rates and positivity percentages and can hit orange tier much sooner than LA.
