Disneyland Question

Please forgive me this question, but I currently live on the east coast so I don't have a clue about the west coast. Question is, in July, I will be attending a conference in San Diego. I am wondering how close is disneyland to san diego? Any info would be appreciated...

From downtown, I would say it is about 1 hour 45 minutes drive with little to no traffic. Not a bad drive at all.

If you are there when hours are long at parks, you could depart SD by around 3:30PM and still get a good evening at either/both parks. They are smaller than WDW, so you'd be surprised at how much you can get done.

Having done it many times, I'd second the estimate of 1.5-1.75 hours for the drive. However, traffic can be a major, major factor, and has the potential to add an hour or more. That's because the route you'd be taking along the coast is also the major beach route, and in July that makes huge difference. If you want to go, I'd strongly suggest a weekday, leaving SD quite early and not coming home until well after dinnertime (because up around Anaheim and OC there's also the normal evening rush hour, which is at its worst 4:00-7:00 PM). There's also a northbound Border Patrol station that usually is waving everyone through but can back up badly if not. That presumes you have a whole day to play; if you can't leave SD until 4:00ish, I'd figure on a min of 2 hours to get there. You might get lucky--it's happened on occasion to me!)--but I'd weigh your tolerance for sitting in traffic and bring along some books on tape
