I have read a few Photopass topics and noticed a $60 price.
All I can find is $99 pre purchase or $129 afterwards.
Where is the $60 from?

I did photopass last year at Disneyworld.
When the time was about to expire, they sent me a coupon code to get it for like $30 off

This info might be off, b/c it's from January, and things seem to be changing.

But as of late January, they offered the CD for purchase while AT the parks, no editing allowed, for 59.95.

They also had a deal with that noneditable CD and two 5x7s for 74.95.

Right now if you look at the photopass site (you have to log in), I see that the cost of just buiying the CD (not pre-purchasing it) is 79.95. That deal was NOT there in January.

Thanks!
It's all getting clearer now
For me the Photopass is still showing $124.95
But ambey thats because I created this account at DisneyWorld last year and it is reflecting those prices.

Disney world and Disneyland are both linked together. But since DL caters to more passholders, the price of the CD is cheaper. WDW it's 125$ because most the people here are on one time visits and people are willing to pay the price. But passholders is CA aren't about to spend that kind of money when they see it all the time.

Totally not true IMO on several fronts. That deal has only appeared in the last month or two, and before that, other than people pre-purchasing it for 99.95, I'm quite sure there were people paying 124.95, and feeling that it was worth it. As for them catering to passholders more...huh? There are still tons of one-time people going there, heck, I was one for two years. Two one-day trips. My brother and SIL live in San Diego and refuse to buy passports, they just buy tickets whenever a relative or friend is in town and wants to go. Now we're AP holders, and we've bought the CD twice, although I'll admit that the first time I was part of a share and the second time I did the pre-purchase..but after seeing the value of the CD during the share, I would have paid the full price no problem. To get a photographic release for even 125...stinkin' priceless, for anyone who had a wedding photgrapher who charges the world or never will give you your photos or a release.

(and the second CD had even more value, it turned out, b/c in December it still had all our September pictures on there...very unexpected and I almost never mention it b/c it was such a total fluke, but it was fun to be able to play with those pictures again!)

Can you explain what you mean by no editing allowed? I'm a photopass newbie :confused3 .

When you get the CD after your trip, you enter your photopass card number(s) onto your photopass online account. At that time you can edit them. Look in my signature, look at the last couple pages of my September and December trips. You'll see pictures that are not just pictures, they have borders around them, the year on them, even Tinkerbell floating to the right of our heads in some. Those are borders from photopass that I edited onto my pictures, after the trip.

If you buy the cheapest CD, if it is still available at the parks, you do NOT get that option. All you get is the basic pictures on a CD (and the photo release so you can have them legally printed wherever you wish).

And that's not a bad value, if that's all you want. If you just like basic pictures, or if you're a whiz at photoshop and can embellish photos with your own software, then that CD is the one for you!

Does anyone know if, when you buy the cheapest CD, can you download those photos onto your pc and edit them with your own photo software? What type of files can you save them as? Anyone know the resolution? :surfweb:

Yes, you can put them onto your computer and edit them how you like. I put them on my Mac's iPhoto, and they are JPEGs. There has been discussion of whether they have lowered the resolution, b/c it seems they are now putting more pictures on the CDs (this was a conversation with someone on the WDW forums and bradk), but I don't know the answer to that. The pictures I have from September and December are 2MB and 3000x2000 (the pix taken on Pirate's Lair with Jack Sparrow) and 3008x2000. They might not be that "big" anymore, but I do not know.

Hope that helps.

..and I have to thank this board for explaining it all so well. I had every intention of buying the 60.00 (when it was that price anyway) one in the park, but after reading about all the cool borders and such and editing options with the 99.00 prepay one I went with that and just paid for it yesterday. So thank you all, and I can't wait to start dinking with the pictures we will get!

Thank you, it helps so much! :cheer2: As long as I can print the pictures at home, add effects with my own programs, ect., I think $60 is a bargain. I tend to take about 100-150 pics a day, and of course, I am not in one of them!! :lmao: Maybe this way I can step in front of the camera, get my Disney on Mickey style, and have pictures in great spots with my boys and DH, as well as DM on Mother's Day! :cool1:

I have never heard of this photo pass, I do not know what the heck it is, or how to go about it. but I would love to have the 99.00 price if it has lots of pictures on it. can you tell me what site you are all talking about, how many pics go on this CD and how it all works? I would love some quality pictures from this trip we will be taking. it will be out last trip for many many years.
and one more thing, to edit the pics later, do I need software? or does the cd come with some??
thanks :)

There are photographers throughout the parks for a program called Photopass. When you have your first picture taken with them, they will give you a card that they scan. They don't scan the pictures onto the card; rather the scan sort of "associates" the pictures with that card number (as far as I understand it). It is FREE to have your pictures taken and even to look at them at the photo centers.

Every time you see a photographer, go ahead and have pictures taken! It's a really good way to get *everyone* in the picture, rather than have your pictures always missing one person. (you can also ask the photopass photogs to use your camera if you wish)

You could just have some prints done of a picture or two, but they are something like 12.95 for a 5x7. That's pretty rich for my blood, not much value for me. :) There are other products you can buy with your photo on it from the photopass pictures, but I'm not big into photo products other than prints, so I don't know as much as I should.

Now this info might be somewhat outdated, to take it with a grain of salt, OK? They have been changing things on me since I was there in late January. (I keep telling DH that I need to go once a month so I can have all the latest knowledge, but our checking account continues to disagree!)

Photopass CD....

As far as I know, there's the 59.99 CD that has all the pictures from your photopass card(s) from your trip. It's just the pictures. You go to the photo center (on Main Street in DL or at Greetings from California in DCA) and have it made up for you.

When I was there in Jan there was a deal with that CD and 2 5x7s for 74.95, I believe.

The CD not only has the pictures, but gives you the "release" that allows you to legally make prints wherever you wish, whenever you want. That's a pretty big deal; if you just buy a print, you have no legal right to copy it, so it's truly just that one print, legally. The "release", however, allows you to make as many prints as you wish (for personal reasons; you can't sell them).

If you have photo editing software on your computer, like photoshop, you can edit those pictures (you have to copy them to your computer, first) and have fun with them. I don't have such software, so I like the following option.

The next CD product is ordered after your trip. When you get home, you log onto the photopass website (disneyphotopass.com, I believe), enter your card ID number(s), and then you can edit them. You can look at my Sept and December trip reports towards the end to see the borders I put on some of my photopass pictures, to see if you like the idea. You can also get signatures of the appropriate characters for pix taken with characters. It can be quite fun! You always keep the original picture, along with each edit you do, as each edit is kept as a copy of that original.

Once you order the CD, they will send the CD (or CDs, if you have too many pictures for just one) in a DVD case. It has the photograph "release" on the disk in a PDF. You can copy those pictures to your computer and make even more edits with your own software, if you have such software and want to. Or you can just take the CD to your local printing place, or upload them to a printing website, and have prints made (5x7 prints are best due to the "size" of the pictures, especially thsoe with borders you've edited on).

The cost of this CD is confusing right now. :)

It appears that Disneyland's photopass CD is costing 79.95, ordered after the trip. (this is quite a bit different from WDW's CD, which costs 124.95 after the trip) The pre-purchase mentioned above has been a good deal at 99.95, BUT since Disneyland's CD seems to be less expensive than that all of a sudden, it might be best to wait until after the trip.

Clear as mud? stitchkingdom.com has a section on photopass, but it's WDW-centric, and not everything talked about there is available at DLR.

There have been many threads on photopass in the last few weeks, so I highly recommend going back pages and finding everything mentioned about it.

I'll make sure to put my signature in this post, so you can check out those photopass pix at the ends of my trip reports.

bumbershoot, (should I call you Molly?:goodvibes ) I have looked through your trip report that has the photopass pics at Christmas time. I am curious, though, about the variety of frames that are included during different times of the year. Or are all of the frames available all of the time? Is there a link or a list or anything that tells you ahead of time what frames you will be able to use? Is there a time limit after your trip for completing the photos and ordering the CD?

I am full of questions, because although I think the $60 cd is a great deal, if it is only an extra $15 for the extended one, that is something I have to consider!

Thank you as always! What would I do without the DIS?!?! :disrocks:

You can call me whatever you like. :) Or whatever you remember. I rarely remember anyone's name on any message board!

I vaguely remember a pumpkin sort of frame at Halloweentime, but I didn't use much of whatever was on there in Sept. Most of my pix, even the Sept ones, have xmastime borders b/c in a really weird and NOT to be expected turn of events, my Sept pictures were still there when I did my December photopass (I re-used the Sept card). Obviously the very xmastime ones were only there in Dec.

Other than that, the Tinkerbell floating over the top is a border that was there both times, the year graphic, and the blue/white Mickey/Minnie on one side with, hmm, the castle, I think on the other side was there.

And the stuff around the Jack Sparrow pictures was just there. I can't even take it off.

I didn't see any way to look ahead of time, but even while you're editing, you're still not locked in to anything. Will you have a laptop with you on your vacation? You *could* look at them online and check out the border options, before deciding which CD you want to get.

Hmm, am now thinking of something, some way to show the borders I have without necessarily plastering my sweaty face (it was hot in Sept, and I was carrying a feisty 3 year old in most pictures in Dec!) all over....must think more...

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: You crack me up! I definately think we are going to take advantage of PP this trip, but I don't really want to have to worry about it a lot while I am there...when I get home, it will be nice to have as a project, and as a way to keep the magic going. ;) I would like to wait until I get home to purchase the cd if it is that $75...has anyone confirmed that is what they paid instead of the $125? Or how long that rate will last?

I am really looking forward to some special pics with DM and the DS's, all five of us, just me and mom...it will be great to finally have some photographic evidence that I have been there!!!! :lmao:

Bought mine yesterday - it was $84 including tax I believe -

We went without the benefit of anyone with us, so there was no way to get family pics! We did photo pass EVERY time we saw a photographer - I figured if I was going to pay for the cd I should make it worth it!

When we got home, there were over 80 pics on my pass!!! Granted, some are triple shots (but that was good, because at least one was usable!)

I went through and added multiple backgrounds to the same pics (they DON'T alter the original) because I didn't know what I would want for my scrapbook, so I did EVERYTHING - in the end, my disk had 180 pics on it!! I won't use alot of them, but it was worth it!

I would suggest going home and altering - it gives you the chance to add those logos - you may use them, you may not, but at least it's an option!

Also, I found that there were several of the photgraphers who were VERY accomodating - we had one go with us to the side of the castle, so we got a lesser seen photo (side view) with no one in the background! It was great- also, they do them at night in front of the castle (and by carnation plaza with fireworks in the background if they are going that night!) - fantastic pics

Enjoy!!!!

I may look into this too. We just got a new camera and although I take most of the pics. I do like to be in some and I prefer to not have my head chopped off accidently by DH. :rotfl:

This is exactly why I am not in the past pics!! :lmao:

as a documenter of the photopass system, i do feel compelled to suggest that photopass is not an excuse to get family photos. aside from photopass photogs willing to use your own camera, any CM should be willing to take photos for you. as a guest, i'm often asked to take photos too (although i'll never figure out how half these P&S camera work)
