I have never heard of this photo pass, I do not know what the heck it is, or how to go about it. but I would love to have the 99.00 price if it has lots of pictures on it. can you tell me what site you are all talking about, how many pics go on this CD and how it all works? I would love some quality pictures from this trip we will be taking. it will be out last trip for many many years.
and one more thing, to edit the pics later, do I need software? or does the cd come with some??
thanks
There are photographers throughout the parks for a program called Photopass. When you have your first picture taken with them, they will give you a card that they scan. They don't scan the pictures onto the card; rather the scan sort of "associates" the pictures with that card number (as far as I understand it). It is FREE to have your pictures taken and even to look at them at the photo centers.
Every time you see a photographer, go ahead and have pictures taken! It's a really good way to get *everyone* in the picture, rather than have your pictures always missing one person. (you can also ask the photopass photogs to use your camera if you wish)
You could just have some prints done of a picture or two, but they are something like 12.95 for a 5x7. That's pretty rich for my blood, not much value for me.

There are other products you can buy with your photo on it from the photopass pictures, but I'm not big into photo products other than prints, so I don't know as much as I should.
Now this info might be somewhat outdated, to take it with a grain of salt, OK? They have been changing things on me since I was there in late January. (I keep telling DH that I need to go once a month so I can have all the latest knowledge, but our checking account continues to disagree!)
Photopass CD....
As far as I know, there's the 59.99 CD that has all the pictures from your photopass card(s) from your trip. It's just the pictures. You go to the photo center (on Main Street in DL or at Greetings from California in DCA) and have it made up for you.
When I was there in Jan there was a deal with that CD and 2 5x7s for 74.95, I believe.
The CD not only has the pictures, but gives you the "release" that allows you to legally make prints wherever you wish, whenever you want. That's a pretty big deal; if you just buy a print, you have no legal right to copy it, so it's truly just that one print, legally. The "release", however, allows you to make as many prints as you wish (for personal reasons; you can't sell them).
If you have photo editing software on your computer, like photoshop, you can edit those pictures (you have to copy them to your computer, first) and have fun with them. I don't have such software, so I like the following option.
The next CD product is ordered after your trip. When you get home, you log onto the photopass website (disneyphotopass.com, I believe), enter your card ID number(s), and then you can edit them. You can look at my Sept and December trip reports towards the end to see the borders I put on some of my photopass pictures, to see if you like the idea. You can also get signatures of the appropriate characters for pix taken with characters. It can be quite fun! You always keep the original picture, along with each edit you do, as each edit is kept as a copy of that original.
Once you order the CD, they will send the CD (or CDs, if you have too many pictures for just one) in a DVD case. It has the photograph "release" on the disk in a PDF. You can copy those pictures to your computer and make even more edits with your own software, if you have such software and want to. Or you can just take the CD to your local printing place, or upload them to a printing website, and have prints made (5x7 prints are best due to the "size" of the pictures, especially thsoe with borders you've edited on).
The cost of this CD is confusing right now.
It appears that
Disneyland's photopass CD is costing 79.95, ordered after the trip. (this is quite a bit different from WDW's CD, which costs 124.95 after the trip) The pre-purchase mentioned above has been a good deal at 99.95, BUT since Disneyland's CD seems to be less expensive than that all of a sudden, it might be best to wait until after the trip.
Clear as mud? stitchkingdom.com has a section on photopass, but it's WDW-centric, and not everything talked about there is available at DLR.
There have been many threads on photopass in the last few weeks, so I highly recommend going back pages and finding everything mentioned about it.
I'll make sure to put my signature in this post, so you can check out those photopass pix at the ends of my trip reports.
