Disneyland Pass Renewal Issue

We have always renewed our passes on my Daughter's birthday (expiration day) or before.
Yesterday was her birthday and we log in to renew and the passes are gone. We call customer service and are told that because of Leap Year the passes expired the day before.
They state that there is nothing that can be done because the passes are now expired, and we will have to wait until passes open back up to purchase new ones.
The supervisor even stated that the "leap year" "got a lot of people this year". I could understand if I was a month past expiration...but it was literally 8 hours. Has anyone been successful in getting a Disneyland pass renewed after the expiration date? Thank you!

I'm so sorry. Do you live close enough to go in person?

Did you receive an email notifying you that they were going to expire? If so, did it have the date on it?

No email notices at all. They said we have our notifications off on our App which isn't true.
We live about an hour away.... not ideal to get a no in person too. :(

That is a real bummer. I had always heard that for years with a leap day you got a "bonus" day. I have never heard of an expiration date being pushed up by a day because of a leap day.

It was that way for many years but they changed it some time back. I honestly don't remember what year it changed, but I remember noticing because it changed the expiration of my pass and I had to adjust my plans.

That stinks, but I know my MK always shows me when the expiration date is in the app and that they let you renew 30 days prior. Given that they aren’t available I wouldn’t have left it to the last minute.

Do they do reminders? I'm not sure I got any app notifications. I got an email at the start of the renewal period:

I received an email. I did not receive any app notification.

It shows up every time you bring it up in the app.

IMO, we are adults and not teenagers who blame their parents whenever they don’t do the things they are supposed to stay on top of on their own.

I empathize with the OP, but I don’t blame Disney.

My Magic Keys were recently up for renewal and not only did I NOT get any emails or notices in the app, I couldn’t renew them through the app. In the past I was able to renew in the app but this time I couldn’t, I had to do it through my computer. It was very hard to find the place to renew them. Disney didn’t make it easy. In the past I felt I was bombarded with notices. This could have easily happened to me. I feel bad for the OP. I do remember when I got my Magic Keys last year there was a statement about the leap year and that they would expire one day earlier due to that.

Oh I'm not blaming Disney at all. Unfortunately, the only one with the app is my Daughter since we don't go too often.
Just knowing that the "leap year got a lot of people".... I was hoping someone might have a solution.

Completely fair that Disney IT could make life easier… I think that applies to almost everything…. it is also a result of them making everything so complex to begin with.

I hope they make them available again so that you can get a new MK and stick to the birthday renewal…. frustrating for sure about the leap year.

I’m so sorry. I sadly doubt they will renew for you now. I know this isn’t helpful now, but in the future, your pass shows the expiration date directly on it in the app.

With all the tech issues Disney has, I would never wait until the last day - they have weird stuff happen with things down for maintenance, or all credit card processing goes down like happened this week.

We got a reminder when we opened the app within our renewal window. We don’t have notifications on.

That's interesting. I did not receive that. We weren't able to book past a certain date and I wondered if the calendar hadn't opened up yet. Then I received the email and, silly me, I should have realized that I couldn't book because it was after my pass would expire.

Once I renewed, I received two sets of reservations. The first set was up until my pass expiration. The second set was from the first day of the new pass on. Each time I visit the park, I make a new reservation. I can't do that now because I'm still using up my old pass reservations and haven't started working through the new pass reservations. I don't remember it being this way in the past. Was it?

You can reserve on the new pass immediately. You just have to select it when you book.

Right, I did that. I maxed out at 6 reservations. What I mean is that, if my pass expires on Sept 30, 2024 and I renew it on August 30, 2024, any visits up until Sept 30, 2024 are on the old pass. Anything after Sept 30 is on the new pass.

On the app if says something to the effect of
4 out of 6 reservations available
0 out of 6 reservations available

Since I'm using the six reservations on the old pass (the top line), and have six booked reservations on the new pass, I am not rescheduling a new visit every time I go. Nothing is wrong. It is like not being able to book a LL as soon as you tap into a ride. I'm used to booking my next reservation as soon as I enter the park.
