Disneyland or Legoland

Hello Friends,

We have been to DL a few times in the past three years. Our kids are 7. 5, and 2. We were thinking of doing Legoland in June. However we could go to DL for about the same price. We are going in October to DL, thus we thought to do something different. We are disney nuts, as well. What do you guys think?? try something new??

I would go to Legoland just to try something differnt. I went over Christmas and we got rained out. I definetly wanna try and see the place. It is not Disney by any stretch but everything cannot be Disney.


May add in a trip south into SanDiego and hit the zoo, sea World or just the beach.

Your kids are just the right age for Legoland so i would go.

FYI....If you sign up for lego club magazine, it has a BOGO offer in it. One free child ticket when you buy and adult ticket.

I agree. Your kids are just the right age for Legoland. It is really well done, clean, and charming. There are also lots of discounts available out there. Just make sure you check the day of the week you're going that it is open. My brother went last year, and had to reschedule the chosen day to go down there as it wasn't open every day of the week (April). June should be ok though.

As long as you have other time scheduled at Disneyland, I would do LegoLand. We took our children when they were about 9 and 5 and they had a great time. It had a Disney feel to me in terms of cleanliness and feeling very family oriented.

I would definitely try Legoland. My kids LOVED it when they were that age, just perfect. The park is calm and fun and the rides are really nice. There are a lot of discounts out there, check AAA for deals, go to your local Lego Store, or google something online. It is probably 1/2 the price of Disney admission. The water play area was really fun. We always had a great time there. We stayed at the Grand Pacific Marbrisa (right behind it) and just walked down a path and we were there. It is a lot of fun!

Just a warning... if you do just Legoland, you need to go into it realizing that Legoland is no Disney. We did both DL and Legoland last summer, and if we had only gone to Legoland, we would have been really disappointed. Unlike Disney, there is really nothing to amuse the grown ups at DL- it is very little kiddish. DH couldn't wait for the day to be done. I enjoyed it, but I really don't have that much interest in going back. It is a cute place. DD (4) did enjoy it quite a bit though. We were there in June, but we didn't go to the water park side of Legoland because it was a pretty cool day, so that might be pretty fun. If you do want to do it, now is the time as your 7 year old is on the edge of being too old. My friend took his 6 year old last year, but his 8 and 9 year olds were in camp. He said he was glad because the 6 year old loved it, but he thought the 8 and 9 year old would have been really bored and thought it was for smaller kids.

Don't laugh, but DH and I went to Legoland last year, I think it was in January. NO kids with us, we were in Carlsbad for a conference, and I always wanted to see it. (my boys loved LEGO growing up).

It is beautiful. Like others say, search around for discounts! We were able to score a great coupon from another guest. We just walked around, delighted to see all the Lego sculptures. We rode a couple of things. Yes, they are designed mostly for kids. We loved the mini-village, with the models of Las Vegas, Wash DC, and so many more cities. It was quite enjoyable, we were there for several hours looking around.

I was struck by how educational it was, and just so different than DL or WDW. They even have things where kids have to work co-operatively for success, sone sort of fire apparatus setup, if I remember. Just so refreshing to see a park that is from a different perspective. They have some kind of undersea thing that we did not experience.

My vote, go to Legoland! Disney will still be there for future trips.

If I had to chose one or the other, I'd choose Disneyland, but my circumstances are different to yours and I can't go to Disneyland or legoland very often as i'm in Australia.

We did love our time in legoland though, it was alot of fun and my kids LOVE it there. So if you have plenty of other chances to get to Disneyland,then it wouldn't hurt to visit Legoland. We found we could get most of legoland done in one day, but 2 days would be nice.

I'm sorry but I totally hated LegoLand..and I maen h a t e d. The kids (7 & 4) never said another word about the place once we left..they both love Disneyland. If you want to do something different, myabe SeaWorld? We always really enjoyed it, our kids really enjoyed it and now the grandkids too. If the choice is strictly between Disney and Legoland than I say...Disney.

We went to Legoland for one day during Spring break two years ago - and we didn't like it. It was just way too crowded, hardly anything for our 2-yr-old to ride (she got to ride 2 rides that day). The mini-land area was really neat - all the cities made out of Legos. It closed early - 5 pm, and my 4-yr-old got to ride maybe 7 rides total that day. I think it was the crowds and the height requirements that killed it for us. Perhaps with taller children and on a not-so-crowded day, we would have come away with a different perspective. We love Sea World, though...may have to plan a weekend there sometime before our Disneyland trip in May.

We had the same problem when we went - the height requirements. A lot of people talk about LL being for smaller kids but LL has a lot of rides with height requirements so the really little kids can't go on much. There seems to be a very small window for the age of kids LL is good for. You have to be big enough to go on the rides but not so big that you find it boring. We had fun and made the best of it but it wasn't anything that wowed us. I can see how someone who loved legos would have a lot of fun there though.

Legoland is very rigid on age limits (some rides have age instead of height limits) for rides. If your 5 yr old isn't 6 by your vacation she won't be able to ride the big kid raceway (tho there's a little kid raceway.) Your 2 yr old won't be able to do most rides--even the horses that just go around in a circle have changed to 4yrs+ now. So if you can handle the 2 yr old upset that she won't be able to do what big sibs can...our last Legoland visit my 3yr old spent most of the day in tears and my son who was turning 6 the very next day was grilled by the staff on whether he was *really* 6 (even though he's taller than most 9 yr olds).

Thanks for all the replies. I have a strong will 2 year old, if she cant ride horses she will have a fit. We had to ride the carosel at least 5 times. At least at Dl she can ride on alot of rides. Legolands hours are shorter too. Still doing pro and cons. Knowing our family we might end up going to DL. We always do

I love Legoland, but it isn't for everyone. I love the charm of it the peaceful places. It makes me laugh. I don't like thrill rides. I think going in off season is so great- you just walk on everything. Also coupons are a must! Full price is WAY to much to pay for Legoland. If you are a thrill seeking family then you will be disappointed. Also, if the trip and tickets will cost as much as a trip to Disney you will defiantly be disappointed. If you can do it for cheaper or tack it on as a one day trip you can have lots of fun there. It really is only a one day park IMO.

We took a day off in the middle of Disney, we had thought about Legoland, but after reading all the reviews, we skipped it, just as well it was raining that day. Enjoyed SD and the sights there.
