Disneyland on NYE

If you go in expecting the insanity it probably wouldn't be too good. I'm super excited to spend my first NYE at Disneyland!!

I think that you should havea wonderful time!~We always do :yay::yay:
I mentioned in my post that you should go with the knowledge that this is going to be a crazy busy day...I always have a wonderful time...we are VERY excited :banana:

Never done it, but will one year. My oldest's birthday is January 1st, and he LOVES that everyone counts down to his birthday and there are fireworks. One year we're going to have to deal with the crowds and celebrate at DL!

That is a pretty fun way to look at a January 1st birthday!! My friend was born on the 4th of July and grew up LOVING that the fireworks were out just for her ;)

Main Street is the most crowded, but the rest of the park holds its share of visitors as well. There are just a lot of people there during that time.

I have heard that also, its just insane as i have heard and seen:scared1:.. i just thinks its insane to even set foot inside the DL gates for NYE, but that is just my opinion.....

ITA! I'm staying away all this week! We left one year around 10 on NYE because we were seriously worried about our daughter's safety. We're there every Christmas and go knowing the crowds are insane. This year was a different story, it felt worse than usual and turned me off. Luckily we're there every week so not getting on rides isn't a big deal for us but for tourists, it's a different story and I can see there being a lot of disappointment.

Yep, NYE is crazy at DLR. But it can be fun. Just have to have the right attitude. Don't think you will get on many rides. But with that said, you can do a lot if you are there at opening till about 10:00-11:00 and don't run from one park side to the other. Do one area and work your way around. Skip the hub area if possible. Get FP when ever possible. In fact I would grab a FP first thing, do what ever is in the area where you got the FP. Once you can get another FP go get it. And work your way around the park gathering FP and doing the things in the area where you got the FP. Saving FP till later. Do note that it will be hard to move with in the park as the day goes by, so it maybe hard to use your FP.

Do note that the park empty right after midnight. Be in the back of the park if you are able to stay up late. Because about 12:30 or so the lines start to get really short and you can do a lot in an hour and half.

What we do is relax somewhere in the afternoon or later in the evening so that we have energy for after midnight.

lapdwife - That's how I felt, too. Of course, it's been a long time since I did DL on NYE and have no desire to do it again. But when I did it, I was used to crowds at DLR. I expected 'crowded.' I just didn't expect that high concentration of people in certain areas, to the point where we could not pass through and had to form a human chain! (No joke.) I always go in peak seasons and always have. I had grown up going in summer every year and then transtioned to Christmas trips - when it's super busy. But, like you said, on NYE, it "felt worse than usual." There was something scarier about the crowd level to me on NYE that wasn't there on other super-busy days. It was that whole 'we're going to pack in like a bunch of sardines and stand shoulder to shoulder and not let anyone get through who tries to pass' thing that really bothered me. That whole Main Street scene was downright uncomfortable and claustrophobic.

But I've said before that knowledge is half the battle - as long as you go in knowing what to expect, you won't be horrified. In my opinion, it's better to have the crowds NOT live up to your preconceived expectations (and then think that we are all off our rockers for hyping it) than to NOT expect it to be bad, only to get there and find out that it is!

But the first few hours of New Year's Day will be great! After about noon, all the hung over people get out of bed and stumble to the parks.

I wouldn't suggest leaving DL any time during the day on NYE if you want to be there at midnight. The park was closed due to capacity yesterday by noon (according to the news), so you don't want to risk being shut out of DL. Now if you decided to go over to DCA or DTD, that's another story. But DL will almost certainly close at some point due to capacity.

Does anyone know how to go about seeing the WOC midnight show at DCA? Are they doing fastpasses for the show like the others? And if so...are those going to be given out AFTER the fastpasses for the earlier show? Or before because it's a special thing? I want to make sure I can see the fountains and fireworks show and don't want to miss getting a fastpass.
