Disneyland newbie trying to plan a trip

Hi all
We've been to WDW a ton of times...now we're trying to plan a first time trip to Disneyland this summer. I am trying to decide between going 8/9 - 8/14 or 8/16 - 8/21 (total stay would be about 9 - 10 days, wtih some days down in the San Diego area)

I think the AP blackout dates are lifted on 8/21 so I know we want to visit before that date. Do you think there will be any difference between these two weeks? Also, midweek is better for visiting right? I was planning on arriving on a Monday and going to the parks Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Universal on Friday, then head down towards San Diego for Sea World, the beach etc. on Saturday. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I don't think there is a better week between those two. You seem to have a very solid start to planning. Just keep reading these boards, soak up as much info as you can and you'll be great. I highly recommend Hydrogy's tips in the sticky at the top of these boards.

If you can find out when Southern California kids go back to school that would help. I would choose the second week just because of what the pp said about the Postal Workers. Midweek is usually better. The closer to the weekend the busier it gets.

thanks...this is the type of info I was looking for! I changed my week to the following week (8/16). I had wanted to go for DD's birthday (8/10) but I don't want to chance dealing with huge crowds from the convention that week. I may need to reverse my order of days, and do San Diego, Universal etc first , then Disneyland the 17, 18, 19 since DD20 will need to get home to get ready for back to school. Thanks!
