Disneyland needs to take lessons from WDW

Or more like just DCA. I'm a long time WDW visitor and I just went to DL for the first time. We went straight to Cars Land at rope drop and people were almost sprinting to RSR! This would not happen in WDW, you have to stay behind the cast members and they are barely at a speed walking pace. I know that this is how it used to be at WDW, but it's been long enough that they changed to there being absolutely no running. I am surprised that Cars Land lets people run crazy like that, especially since they could easily hold the rope all the way to the RSR entrance. I think we were the only family that wasn't running to the ride! It was just a bit shocking compared to my WDW visits. Disneyland kind of was bad too in Tomorrowland, but it wasn't as bad at DCA.

I've never seen that; so one of us has only seeing outlier times going to RSR.

I do remember my son nearly being run over at DHS at some point after 2010, though...

If you are still at DLR, stop by City Hall or Chamber of Commerce to leave a comment about this. If you are back home, use the DLR website to leave a comment (use the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page). Disney really does want to know about guest experiences. Be as detailed as you can be, e.g. date, time, what happened, how it affected you, what could have gone better, etc. Leave your contact information if you want someone to get back to you. More often than not, someone usually will email or phone you. This can be a real safety issue, so it's important for Disney to know about.

....but that's why it's fun? PP and RSR are two rides at rope drop where you'll have your agility and speed tested. It's a determinant of how many grannies and strollers you can push aside mercilessly before arriving to the destination that is the Radiator Springs Racers stand-by line. Too polite? Didn't want to knock down people? Didn't come prepared with knee pads/helmet/elbow pads? Back of the hour-long line for you!

All kidding aside, yeah it's a bummer that people run. It's just part of the excitement of rope-drop and has been for a while. CMs used to walk the line down to a certain point in Cars Land before allowing the crowd to progress but they must not do that anymore. I don't really mind it, per se, as we can usually keep the pace of the crowd. But for first timers/infrequent visitors I can see where that could get overwhelming.

I'm kind of surprised by this. I know they used to keep up a fast walking line and did a pretty good job of keeping it in check.

Yeah, I always had to follow a cars themed rope with a bunch of cast members walking it over!! But, I don't head straight to that ride anymore because of Maxpass so have to say, that's how it USED to be done!

Running (and lack of enforcement to stop it) is something I've complained about to Disney.

I rarely rope drop so I don't often see it, but I did experience an event at rope drop where the CMs said those who ran would not be allowed to participate... Only to not enforce it at all. I definitely gave the stink eye to anyone I saw the rest of that day with a certain wristband because I knew most had run and received no consequence for it.

What was worse was that people were getting elbowed and shoved due to the running which was the main part of my complaint: safety.

The more guests that issue complaints, perhaps the more likely we are to see enforcement of the no running rule.

In February we did a rope drop at DCA and were led to GoTG by a CM. There was no running after the CM announced it was not allowed. It was a brisk walk for sure, but no running and no shoving. This was week day though, so perhaps a smaller crowd.

This was my experience with GoTG at rope drop in March, as well. Also, once around the corner, the CMs started announcing to form a line on the bricks, which narrowed the line down to the right size for the queue. People were really well behaved about it all.

I say Disneyland goes ahead and learns this from WDW as long as DL gets to go to WDW and show them a few things that are far superior at DL.

Kind of bugs me too. Generally I'm a rule follower and I'm teaching my kids to follow the rules. They ask that you not run, so we don't run. Unfortunately there are others who do and they do get ahead of us even if we are in front of them at rope drop.

The only ride in CA that does the CM walk right now is Guardians, if they are still doing that.

Never go to the Tokyo Disneyland Resort if this is an issue for you.

I always thought the reason for the CM to request the no run walk policy is to protect them from any lawsuits if someone was to get hurt.

We were at WDW last August and did rope drop at AK. People ran like crazy to FOP. In fact, one older woman wiped out so bad... money went flying everywhere. My husband helped her gather her things and off she went, sprinting again. So, yes, it does happen at WDW too.
