Ok, I tried chatting online with disney to ask about the military hotel discount and they told me to call. I called and I was told you must be active or retired military. My husbands active enlistment ends one week before the trip but he will then we a reservist. Because he will be in training he will be an "enlisted" reservist (most places allow reservists with active paperwork to get the same discounts.) She didn't seem to know what that meant. After the phone call I looked up the policy online and this is what it says, "Valid for active or retired members of the U.S. military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard."

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

He should have a military ID/DOD id then and that is what is used for proof and purchase of the salute tickets.

I took advantage of the military hotel discount back in 2009. I was Army Reserve at the time, but was basically considered an "active" reservist because I drilled regularly. IRR or Inactive Ready Reserve is probably the Reserve component that is excluded from this deal because it is basically just your name on the military's list should they have a need to call you up.

Your husband should be fine and will be able to get the discount. They will ask for ID to verify, when you check in.

So DoD ID is fine without paperwork?

My DH is retired AF, and all we have are IDs, no paperwork. (Well, I guess we could bring his DD 214, but we don't make a habit of it!)

We are excited, as it was the military discount that is allowing us to stay at the GCH in a few weeks!

I have found that civilians often do not understand the difference between active duty military and drilling reservists/guardsmen. My school's financial aid office has several times told me that I am active duty, when I correct them and say that no, I'm not active military, I'm a drilling National Guardsman, they insist that it's the same thing. It's a pet peeve of mine.

But yes, active military, retirees and drilling reservists and guardsmen are eligible for the military discount. So long as you possess a valid military ID you're golden.
