Silly question, but I'm doing early research for a potential trip next summer.
In my hotel research I am noting the distance to DCA for a comparison. We'll stay offsite but would most likely want to be in walking distance.

I just want to confirm where is the entrance? Are there multiple spots or is it the one entrance between the two parks?

Also, are places on say Katella, or at the north end near W Ball Rd walkable? From google maps, these tend to show around 20 minutes but I can't tell if there are sidewalks, etc. Is one end recommended over the other if we can't stay right on Harbor Blvd? e.g. if our hotel doesn't include breakfast then we would need somewhere quick near by to grab something

PS - And would these be too far if we're coming in August when it's hot? (We'd most likely come in the morning and stay the day so not walking in the main heat).

DCA does have a second entrance, but for your purposes consider the DL gate to be a good litmus. The second entrance to DCA is through the Grand Californian and not always available if you are not a guest of the hotel or dining there.

I would stick to Harbor.

The main entrance for both parks are across from each other with the esplanade in between. You can access them from Harbor, Katella, or Ball however staying on Harbor has the potential for the closest route. I'm not sure what the walk is like from Ball but on Harbor it's very safe, that's a Main Street, sidewalks are very wide, I've crossed Katella and it seems to be the same. 20 minutes for us is very walkable, we stayed at DoubleTree suites and would usually walk to the park in the morning then take ART back at night and in the afternoon for our midday break. Plenty of places around to grab a quick bite, there's also a Starbucks in DTD.

The part in green is considered walking distance. The hotels/motels on Ball road are probably a bit too far. And I wonder about their inclusion of the Katella motels. For instance, Stovall's is pretty walkable; probably more so than Alpine Inn. Also look at the hotels clustered around Convention Way. They're a pretty hefty hike; but you can walk across the street to the Toy Story lot and take the (free) shuttle from there.

HTH,
Bob
