I really believe what irks me so much is the Matterhorn is unique to Disneyland. I still dont get why close the ride open it close it again open it then close it for 2 months. That doesnt make any sense. Oh what do you people think of the Finding Nemo ride. I wanted to go on it with kids. But everyone says its so boring and the wait times are horrendous no matter what time of day you go.

Do it. Like you said, it's unique to Disneyland. The wait times aren't horrendous early morning or before closing. You'll have plenty of chances to see it.

Tino, I've been reading all of the replies. You are coming to California! July is a popular month, be prepared, you will be with crowds. but only you can get your kids in a happy go lucky mood for their time, if your mr. fuddy duddy, guess what? it will rub off on them. . there are lots of rides, you will have fun! there is lots of entertainment, I highly recommend catching a billy and hillbillies show in the golden horseshoe, and laughing stock outside the shoe. your kids will get a kick out them! I don't even ride rides everytime we go, we go for the entertainment quite often! Matterhorn. . very rough and jolty, AND it has been breaking down OFTEN, it needs a major rehab. . as for DCA,, yes lots of construction, lots of walls, but there is stilll things to do. be sure to catch Aladdin on DCA. . remember our monorail is a ride, not a mode of transportation like WDW. . we use our train as our transportatoin around the park. Legoland, yes your kids will totallly enjoy it! AND my kkids loved loved loved the car thing over there, its not on a track, they are on street wiht lights, stop signs, way cool! definitely hit the beach! your trip is booked, now focus on all the fun times your going to have! Go have a great time! and who knows, maybe things will be postponed or done quicker. . stranger things have happened!

I am almost suspecting that this is a troll--because it just seems way too overblown to be true. If it is indeed true (and I have seen your other posts on other *cough* disneyland boards around the web)--then I suggest you just take a deep breath and remember you are going to DISNEYLAND. This isn't brain surgery and life and death. You are taking your kids to Disneyland where they will ride rides (and yes, I can gaurantee they will be tall enough for lots of the very best ones!) and you will all have a super time, if you let yourself. Adjust your dosage, talk to a therapist, talk to your spouse--do what ever it takes to just relax and have a good vacation.

I don't know if you are male or female--but perhaps take up a relaxing hobby until your July trip (like knitting or crime scene investigation) and soon enough you will be walking right down the middle of Main Street USA and having a very lovely time.:wizard: (even sans Matterhorn, I promise!)

Tino - go to Kennywood near Pittsburgh. Your son can ride the jackrabbit which is a GREAT coaster. My ds rode it first time when he was 3 1/2 and has been in love with coasters since. He's dying to hit 48" to ride Screamin' now. Really, though, it lacks the Disney touches, but Kennywood has old time charm and is a really great park (and they allow you to bring in full on picnics!). Plus it's heck of a lot cheaper!

Absolutely 100% agree with Kennywood! It is a fabulous family park and I agree that it is very charming and worth visiting. Much of it reminds me of a classic boardwalk amusement park. :thumbsup2

And yeah, the Jackrabbit beats the Matterhorn any day of the week. It was a favorite of mine as a kid. :goodvibes

arliepooh thanks for the advice. Do you think Legoland can be done in one day and how are the wait times there. Is waterpark nessesary?

Here's my guesses, just guesses, on the open/close/open/close issue:

1. Something mechanical happened that mandatory repairs can't be put off until September. They're doing work as parts come in and trying to diffuse the ride's downtime by staggering the maintenance (instead of having one extra-long closure).

2. DL is anticipating one or more E-Ticket rides down for maintenance in September and doing the Matterhorn in the summer minimizes the # of high-profile rides down at any one time.

Maybe you can shift your airfare tickets to another date, since the Matterhorn is such a big ol' deal for you. I'm sure paying the processing fees will be worth it to you and your family.

I have the unofficial guide and readers hate the ride. People on these boards hate the ride because they say its boring and not worth the wait. I am repeating what others have said. As far as the Matterhorn what set me off was that I called Disney and didnt get accurate info. Ididnt know the people who answer phones for Disney were clueless to what is going on. So I took to the boards to vent. When somebody spends thousands of dollars that they really shouldnt be spending for a vacation for the kids, I would expect decent customer service, and I didnt get it,plus the guy at the other end laughed it off like I was an idiot for saying Matterhorn would be closed for 2 months.

Wife is a teacher only July or August. I get what you are saying but if something happened then shut the ride down before somebody gets hurt. What scares me is the disneyland calendar hasnt reached july 20th yet I really hope I dont see anymore refurbishments, its one thing if something breaks down but I will be really angry if another Disneyland unique ride is being refurbished unless its just for a few days I will be there a week and I noticed some of the refurbishes are only a few days.

If you don't have thousands to spend on your vacation, why not just NOT go? I realize that you claim you have already bought airline tickets, but you can call and change those tickets if you really need to. Cancel your hotel reservations, don't buy a 7 day parkhopper (like you are asking about) and just don't go.

This is suppose to be a fun, relaxing experience--not a death march.

Call you airline right now and see what they can do for you, as far as the change. I can tell you that thousands upon thousands of people will visit Disneyland this summer and have a great time despite Matterhorn being down. You may not be one of them, but that is really okay. If you don't have the money to pay for a vacation, then try something closer to home.

It seems to me that all of this angst has to be about more than just the Matterhorn being down.

I new somebody would comment on the money. Alot of people go on vacation even though they really should be putting it aside. But my kids are everything. I am upset on these boards complaing to adults. In front of my kids I will not be like this. I have every right to be pissed off about the Matterhorn and the the fact the Disney mis informed me. If the Disney rep new that the calendar only went 60 days then tell me. But he didnt. There fault not mine. I will have a great time with my kids, doesnt mean I cant come on these boards and say the truth and that is Disney customer service let me down.

I have been to Disneyland many many times. There is ALWAYS something down. Always. Most times something major has been torn up.
One time it was the area around splash, last time the lagoon was empty & scafolded, another it was tomorrow land. I have NEVER seen everything I want up and running at Disneyland. But you know what? That place always has something new and exciting. You can focus on the fact that the Matorhorn will be down or you can focus on the fact you get to check out the new Little Mermaid ride, the new Star Tours, the World of Color, and what's finished in DCA. Happiness is a choice, right now I'd say you've decided to be unhappy.

I thought I had problems ! I cant figure out a touring schedule for my days. jk
I'm going OP and really wanted to go on BMRR but it will be closed for refurbishment its cool though gives me a reason to go back.

Whats this DCA is all messed up ? My first time going there hope it dont ruin nothing. I guess it will be okay I handled the refurbishment of Animal kindom lodge when I was there had a view of a big crane every morning, did not ruin a thing for me that whole vacation.

DCA only has one attraction down, as it's being rethemed, so that is the worst part. Most of the constructions is in Carsland which is being built in what was a former parking lot. Though a little bit of Carsland was a dining shopping area and has a wall along the interface. Around Paradise Peir are lots of walls, though they are coming down now and most will be gone by your visit.

In the entry is the worst part though this may not look nessecary on your visit, they are building new gates, though they are progressing fairly quick. In side the part is a wall around a new building going up.

So all in all lots of walls and only a ride and a few restauranst missing.

I enjoy Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage a lot!! Some of that has to do with the fact that Finding Nemo is my favorite Pixar movie, so I'm kind of biased. If your kids like the movie, I think they'll enjoy the ride. Regarding wait times, the standby times are slowly coming down for Nemo. This will be the 4th year since it opened, so the "new-ness" factor has finally worn off. I last rode Nemo on April 24th (Easter Sunday) with only a 20 minute wait at 3pm in the afternoon! So the wait times may not be too bad depending on when you try.

I think the description of DCA is slightly exaggerated here. Yes, there are a lot of construction walls. But if you're coming in late July, like the OP, a lot of the existing construction walls will be gone. The bulk of the remaining walls will be at the main entrance and around Carsland. All existing attractions should be up and running. Although we should all check the DLR Calendar for refurbs once those dates open up. PLUS at DCA: The Little Mermaid will be opening on June 3. Goofy's Sky School is opening July 1. And two new restaurants are also opening July 1. I admit the construction at the main entrance is kind of an eye sore, but it hasn't affected any attractions, shops or restaurants there. Good luck with the rest of your trip planning!! :goodvibes

If your kids are your everything, you should make sure you aren't wasting thousands of dollars on a vacation with money you really don't have. It won't do them any good if an emergency, unexpected expense or layoff occurs.

Secondly, Disney didn't mislead you. At the time you booked your trip, the refurb calendar wasn't out yet. So as far as they knew, the ride wouldn't be down for refurb. That's why the tickets and package you purchase very clearly state that they don't guarantee all attractions/entertainment will be open, operating or functioning.

And if you're seriously this upset that one ride at an amusement park isn't going to be operating while you're there, I think you need to step back and take a good look at you and your life. Because either something mentally is off or there's a much bigger issue going on...
