Disneyland let me down-matterhorn news

I, too, can see all the way to July 13, and "2011 p3" Matterhorn refurb is definitely on the schedule. Don't know about others , but I'm pretty convinced!

I have to say I'm with the OP on this one. I know that you can have a great time regardless, but I'm not above moving my dates for a refurbishment. Matterhorn is just one of those attractions I can't give up if I'm flying all the way to DL. I would be heartbroken.

So I feel your pain but now it's a matter of just moving your trip if that's important to you or just sucking it up. I don't think e-mails to Disney will work in this case. And as another poster mentioned, I'll be damned if you can find another DLR attraction that's down more than Mattie.

But I'm sure Disney only shuts down the ride because they have to and that they always have guests and their safety in their best interests.

I think Indy is worse. Then again, maybe Indy just hates us and every time it breaks!

I think Indy might be the worst unscheduled. And Matterhorn might have the most scheduled downtime.

Dude, if this is the only trip you will EVER take to Disneyland resort, you picked a bad time to visit. DCA is all torn up right now. Not even worth going to if you've never been, in my opinion. You should have waited until NEXT summer...

Get used to Disney CM's not knowing everything. That's how it is. I think I know more about the parks than most CMs who work there, being a local AP holder who has visited approx. 1 time per week over the past 7 years.

If this has you this upset, I hate to see what might happen when you arrive here and find out that half the resort is under construction...

Doesn't anyone find it suspicious that the rumored Matterhorn closure info on the Disney website is a moving target? After seeing this post I checked again - for the fifth time since I have seen this rumor - and it is not there - again.

Do not misunderstand me. I believe that those of you that claim to have seen it have indeed seen it. I just am suspicious because the closure info keeps going away.

When I see it with my own eyes - and the info stays there for a day or two - I will be more convinced.

You're clearly going to believe what you want to believe, but I don't know how you're saying until you've seen it with your own eyes. It's been screen shot for you; I provided you with one a couple days ago, so it's been there for 2 days now. Do you think people are making fake screen shots? And as pointed out, it may be your browser. I can get to July 13 using a safari web browser but only July 11 using internet explorer. Have you tried clearing your cookies and history and reentering the site?

Well, I said I hoped no one would misunderstand me, and explained clearly that I believed all the screen shots, but someone still misunderstood me...

I think saying it's not worth going is pretty over stated. It's probably our only trip and there is plenty I want to see. Don't know that I care about Carsland so why wait for it anyway. Pretty sure we'll have a great time.

Tino, I really am sorry you're upset but at this point you only have 2 choices. Make the best of it, talk up other awesome rides to get you and your son excited about it, or change your plans and don't go now. Going when you're this upset seems like a great way to really waste your money.

Good luck and I hope with a little time you can readjust your expectations or reschedule.

Well, you are booked and you can't change it, right? I know it can be disappointing to have an attraction down especially one you are really looking forward to, but it is what it is and now you have to change your mind frame. Remember, your trip will be what you make of it.

Why don't you start researching all the other rides and attractions that are going to be up and running during your visit. Start getting excited for those! Disneyland has so much to offer and I’m sure once you change your attitude, you will start getting excited again!

Now, get back to planning and have fun!!! I hope you have a wonderful vacation!!

Having parks that grow, evolve, are updated is a good thing. Having rides periodically down and construction barriers up are the price we pay for Disney to keep improving, updating. Personally, I think it's a small price to pay. I don't like walking around the construction, and I really don't like it when I can't ride something, but if DL fans can suffer through 2 years of no Space Mtn, I think we can suffer through the rattle trap Matterhorn being down for the summer. Just ask anyone who's been on Space if it was worth that 2 year wait, and I think they will say YES!

This summer there's a new parade to see, WoC, Mermaid Ride, etc. There's plenty to do there. And if they can improve the matterhorn so it's not a painful, neck jarring ride, then I'll gladly wait.

Can you imagine scheduling your vacation so that it coincides with a ride reopening only to show up and find out that the ride is still CLOSED and that it will still be closed throughout your vacation?! That would have me more upset.

Also, someone mentioned that the beaches are about an hour away from Disneyland. That is not true. Some of the best beaches are just 30 minutes away in Orange County.

I would hate to see Disneyland close for the winter like other non-disney theme parks do- in order to do park repairs and etc. If everyone keeps complaining someday it might happen!

I can just vision the scene from National Lampoon's Vacation where the Griswalds show up to Wally World and find out it is closed!

DCA (Disney's California Adventure) is not in shambles....and trust me regardless of whether or not the Matterhorn is up and running....you are going to have a good time, if you want to.

Start focusing on all the good things and forget the rest. Disneyland Park is MAGICAL...it the the park that Walt built. There are so many things your kids will LOVE, that the fact one or two rides they were looking forward to riding aren't running...in the big picture, it won't matter. My kids went to Disneyland 4 times before they rode the Matterhorn. It gets refurbed a lot.


There is always going to be "something" that goes wrong, this is the way life is....we learn to adjust to the challenges.

We were in the Parks last summer and DCA was really in full swing refurbishment, and we still had a GREAT TIME! More and more walls are coming down every day, and by the time you get there the new Little Mermaid ride will be open.

Please don't be sad or upset....you have a wonderful vacation planned, please try to think positive and enjoy every minute of your time with your family in the "original" park.

Wow, shambles! That is really overblowing it. Yes, there is reconstruction; but by then, except for Cars land and the entrance way, the rest of the rides and the World of Color night show will be going on. You'll be going on the Little Mermaid ride at least a year before the WDW regulars would. But knowing your luck, we'll have either high winds or rain during your stay, thus cancelling the World of Color shows.

There is a lot of construction but it is not affecting any rides that are currently already built. In other words, there are construction walls up, but all the rides are still running. Goofy's Sky School and Little Mermaid will be open by the time you get there. Carsland won't be open until summer 2012 but again, that is a new attraction, so nothing is closed in order for them to work on it.

DCA was in shambles before the construction. Now it is an absolute travesty.
By July it won't be that bad. The new rides will be up and most of the construction inside the park will be done. Just the entrance and the add ons will be eyesores. Actually, who knows by then the entrance might be looking pretty cool? It will just likely be tucked behind a wall.
Also, the mountains for carsland will probably be looking pretty cool by then. They're pretty impressive now actually just in a kind of Hellraiser/pinhead fashion.

I don't know... if it was me, I'd surely be disappointed, but I believe I'd do my best to focus on the rest of the things my family and I could do on the trip, instead of spending my time getting upset that this one part of it isn't going to work out the way I'd hoped.

Heck, every big trip I go on in this world, it seems like the one thing I most want to see is scaffolded, so I guess I've just learned to make the best of what is on offer. At a place like Disneyland, there's no sense getting wigged about just one ride, when there are a slew of other rides that will thrill and amuse your family. Just think of all the laughter and fun you'll have together, no matter what you ride.

Doesn't make sense to spend your time getting mad, when there's nothing to be done about it.
