Going to Disneyland Feb 24-26. We are driving up from Vegas early Saturday morning and flying home out of LAX at 7:00pm on Monday, so it's a short and sweet trip! Staying across the street at Tropicana. We have a 5 and 7 year old. This is what we are thinking:

Saturday, Feb 24 (12:00pm-9:00pm, break at hotel for dinner)
California Adventure (World of Colour)

Sunday, Feb 25 (8:00am-9:00pm, break midday to swim)
Disneyland
Fireworks

Monday, Feb 26 (8:00am-3:00pm)
Disneyland

Have you been before? What are your kids' favorite characters, etc.?
Yes, but a long time ago! First time for the kids. My son loves Spiderman. Not sure my daughter needs to see any specific character but she’ll enjoy seeing them in general. Any tips?

In addition to some individual meet-and-greet areas like Minnie's House, there are multiple Marvel characters in Avengers Campus and multiple Star Wars characters in Galaxy's Edge.

Make sure to see the Spidey show in AC, it takes place just inside the main entrance to AC, up on top of Webslingers attraction. That’s also where he does his meet and greet. (Not on top, down below :rotfl2: ). Lots of Avengers always hanging around…

There is usually a Toy Story character near Midway Mania. It rotates between Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Bo-Beep. One character leaves and the next takes their place. You will get to meet a character, just maybe not the character that was there when you first got in line.

Near the Incredicoaster there is a usually a meet and greet with Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible, or Frozone.

Joy and/or Sadness are near the Emotional Whirlwind.

Near the Winnie the Pooh ride is a line that lets you meet multiple characters.

There are classic characters out and about in Toon Town as well.

I have seen classic characters near the entrances to either park.

Is your daughter the 5 year-old? Both my daughters had a thing for princesses when they were that age (in spite of my best efforts). It's been a while, but one of my favorite memories of Disneyland was seeing both of them at the princess breakfast they used to have, which was a regular character dining experience rather than the exorbitantly priced "Princess Breakfast Adventure" they have now. They were totally enthralled at that age. But they both also really enjoyed the other character dining experiences even as they got a little older.

Storytelling at the Royal Theater near Fantasyland was also a favorite. It's more like a mini-play rather than storytelling. And there are some yummy treats at Maurice's Treats right there. Grab some snacks and see if you can get one of the tables nearby to watch the show. I'm sure your son will love the Spiderman show at Avenger's Campus.

If you haven't been with kids before, be prepared to spend a lot more time hunting for/standing in line for characters than you might expect. And if they want character autographs, be sure you have a pen for the characters. Also, be aware that some of the rides, even in Fantasyland, are more scary than you might expect for some 5 year-olds. My youngest was absolutely terrified of the Snow White ride (which I believe has been redone to make it a little less scary), Toad, and Pinocchio when she was 5. My oldest was not. Haunted Mansion was also nearly too much for the youngest until she was about 10. :)
