Disneyland in October with Family

We are planning a trip to Disneyland in October for about 4-5 days. We have two small kids and might also have grandparents in tow. Is it true that if I wait until August that they usually do some sort of promotion for the on-site hotels for the fall months? We would love to stay at the Grand Californian but am hoping to get a better price than what they are offering now.

Also, if we do stay off-site, any recommendation for what is the best hotel with 1 or 2 bedroom suites?

Oh Me Oh My! I don't know about anyone else, but this seems like super late planning. Especially for onsite hotels. We always stay at the HoJo & it's pretty full already for our Oct trip. I also tried pricing other Good Neighbor hotels & those also have limited availability.

I would suggest that you call them up directly & ask them specifically about availability for your dates. If they are at like 80%- then you know you need to book sooner rather then later. Keep in mind too, that they may inflate there percentage just a little to try & get you to book. I worked in the hotel biz for many years & it was custom practice to always add 10% to our actual availablity.

And don't forget...unless you prepay- many hotels will lower your rate if you just give them a call. I always do this! Book now, so I can lock in the room I want & then just watch for additional discounts. If one comes up, then I call the hotel directly & they change the rate. The only way this does NOT work is if you prepay, usually through Priceline or Expedia or something....

If the "grandparents" do go with you...if one of them is 60 or over, you can get a 30% senior discount on the rooms at the Disney Hotels. We do this with our family, you can book 2 rooms at the discount rate...

Just adding the Senior Rate is usually the best rate possible.

If the "grandparents" do go with you...if one of them is 60 or over, you can get a 30% senior discount on the rooms at the Disney Hotels. We do this with our family, you can book 2 rooms at the discount rate...

I have to call Disney to get the Senior Rates...and you can get an idea of of the room price by going to the official Disney site for travel, and do a "price your vacation" room only; and price it for one night. Then take the 30% off the price...now add room tax of 17% and you will have an idea of the cost.
Remember weekends room rates are higher than a weekday. We saved over $800.00 for the two rooms we are doing in October.
