Hiya, I am trying to decide when to do a trip to DL and was thinking early/mid March. Can people tell me what the chances of there being many ride closures, what time does the park normally stay open until and what is the weather like?

thanks guys :)

I went to DL mid March this year and it was the busiest I've seen it and won't do that again :( I also went last week and I've been at Labor Day too and it was far more crowded in March....totally strange!!! With that said, I don't recall any ride closures out of the norm, the park stayed open until 10pm if I'm correct, and the weather was great!

If you go in mid-March, that is generally when Spring Break is starting for some areas. I would definitely recommend going in early March. We have been the first week in March before and it was fine, but it all depends on when schools have their Spring Break.

As Kaylasmom said, early March would be better. We were there the past two years in March and it was a bit crowded. This year was worse than last and I think it was because it was a week later than usual. Both years the park was open until at least 10 (it was midnight this year) and I don't remember any rides being down for refurb in DL. DCA, of course, was a different story due to all the work going on over there.

Weather.... well, we're from Phoenix so it's a bit relative. We find we need needs jeans and light jackets morning and evening usually. Last year we needs our jackets most of the trip actually. This year it got warm enough two of the days that we were there that I wished I'd packed some shorts. Still, I love the weather there in March.

Chances of ride closures is high in early and March and moderate in mid and late March when Spring Break kicks in.

For comparison here is a list fo ride closures and park hours the last two Marches:

Rivers of America is supposed to be under refurb next spring (Jan-Apr?) so that would mean no: Tom Sawyer Island, Canoe boats, Mark Twain/Columbia, and NO FANTASMIC!!

We went in mid-late March of this year and were really surprised at how crowded it was. We weren't the only ones there for Spring Break, but I don't remember there being too many ride closures when we went and the park hours were late enough that we were able to get a lot done.

We went the first week of March in 2008 and it wasnt that crowded. It seemed busy, but compared to a July weekend, it was cake...

with that said, the weather was really good! not hot and not cold, just a little breezy and at night you needed a light sweater.

I dont remember any rides being closed and i would definately go again in March. :)

id like to find out that for sure, I wouldnt book if that was going to be the case.

Rivers of America are actually going to be drained. Yuck. Plus you don't want to miss the new world of color water show in California Adventures. I don't have an eta on that, just know it is supposed to open in the spring. If it does open in March for Spring break expect a very busy park. Easter is early this year and everyone and thir mother will be there to check out the new show. Plus the silly symphony swings should open then too.

All reports say it will be drained next spring. I don't think anything "official" comes out until a couple of months before.

You are both right!!

Wow that cements my dates for me, silly symphony swings aren't even going to be up till April 29th....Not that June isn't going to be crazy either but I have looked up the lower ap blockout dates and I think we'll be fine. We're going with my inlaws for the first time, they always go in June. I've convinced sis in law to at least avoid those last days before the passes get blocked. Lol I feel like 7 brides for 7 brothers.

Yep, if it was me I would try to wait for June if possible. Or late May.

We visited in early March this year (3/2-3/4 or 5) and early March 2006. This year was great as far as crowds go ~ I'm sure they were fine in 06, I hadn't found the Dis yet so I didn't have many Disney skills. It rained pretty heavily a couple times (not for long though). I much prefer to visit the parks when it's cooler. Our APs are good till 5/11/10 ~ I'd like to visit either late-ish April (DS's B~day is 4/20) or early May.

I have decided to move my trip. The advantage is i will have more money to spend as well as most things being open. My next question, June or july? and what week? I am not too fussed about crowds as I will have about 10 days to see everything. Its more important that everything's open and running and im happy to take my time around the parks.
