What can you tell me about Disneyland in mid January? Are Xmas decorations down by then? Is HM back to it's original theme? The weather? The crowds? Any special events???

Thanks

Not sure about Xmas decorations. But here was the ride closure list from a website posted in october of last year.

Disneyland

* River Belle Terrace closed through December 14 for remodel.
* Alice in Wonderland closed through November 20.
* "it's a small world" closed October 22 - November 8 to install the holiday overlay, then reportedly will close at the end of January 2008 for a nine-month refurbishment, and should re-open in late October.
* Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor closed January 7-24 for refurbishment
* Mark Twain Riverboat closed January 7-10 for refurbishment
* Haunted Mansion closed January 7-24 to remove the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay.
* Space Mountain closed January 15 & 16

As you can see HM is closed mid January to remove the overlay, but again this was last years and not this years dates of closures. The weather is great (im from vegas so anything not hot or dry is great to me). The crowds are what I would consider slow. Hopefully someone else can get into those answers better.

Mid-January is usually great crowd-wise if you avoid MLK Holiday.

Christmas decorations should be down after the 2nd week of Jan.

Weather can be iffy -- rain likely, but I have also experienced a heat wave in January (85 degrees), so there's really no guessing.

I would expect the HM to be down for removal of the overlay, and depending on your dates of stay, IASW may go down as well for its holiday removal.

I have read on other boards that they will be repaving Main Street starting in January and that will cause the PoD to go on hiatus.

I'm usually in Disneyland Jan 12-15. HM is usually closed to remove decorations. Small World tends to be running (I think w/o the holiday overlay, but could be wrong about that). No Christmas decorations or parade.
It can be VERY cold this time of year at night. Fireworks also get canceled a lot due to high winds. Crowds are tolerable, not too heavy at all.
I can't think of anything special that goes on. Overall, I think it's a great time to visit Disneyland. :thumbsup2

I'll have to watch the dates carefully...I've seen the newly redone HM but my DH has not. I'd like him to see that.

I want to see the HM for Christmas too. I'm hoping to get to visit on Jan.2 if we pick up APs this trip. I hope it is still up then!

HM Holiday will definitely still be running on Jan 2nd. It probably won't go down for refurb until after the 5th, possibly later depending on how long DLR extends their official holiday season.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 19th in 2009. It's a Federal & State holiday and all the schools are out.

No flames please: I don't like the holiday overlay, I'm hoping that it will be down and reopened by the time I get there.

i agree....i think the holiday overlay is really cute and all, but i loooove HM so i get upset when i dont get to see it:sad2: when we went in jan it was still nightmare before christmas, so i wouldnt expect it to be back to normal by then. i know in feb its back to normal for sure (end of feb at least...)
the weather was also rainy when we went in jan, but ive also heard ppl tell me that they had great weather during that time. buuut the crowds were kinda low so that was nice! just make sure to bring ponchos b/c if it rains you will need them! we got soaked head to toe...even with ponchos:rotfl2: still, it was a great trip;)

My family and I went from the 4th - 6th of January this year and it rained pretty bad one night. The rest of the time it was amazing. According to the weather it was a total fluke. If you look closely at my jacket, its drenched. It was TOTALLY worth it though... NO LINES at all!!!

I personally LOVE HM decorated in Nightmare stuff, but thats because I LOOOOVE Nightmare Before Christmas and Tim Burton in general. He after all started out with Walt Disney!! Anyway, while we were there Haunted Mansion was decorated. This year they started taking down the decor on the 7th of January. I don't think they usually keep the same dates every year though. So you're gonna have to check the calendar on the website. Just looking on when the second weekend of January falls, there's a chance they might start taking decorations down the first weekend of January. I can't give you a for sure though. I think the longest we had to wait for a ride was 40 minutes, and that was for Nemo. Other than that it was either like 15-20 min or walk on. It was great.

Also there is more of a likelihood that you won't see fireworks due to bad weather. We fortunately had awesome weather the first night and got to see them. If you are going to try and watch the Christmas fireworks, watch 'em by Main Street because it SNOWS after. It was the most magical thing EVER. This was us enjoying it. There were so many happy children around and couples holding eachother. It just felt so full of love. I almost teared up because of how magical it was.

Thank you both so much.
wazowskiLOVER:): I loved the pictures. I'll be sure to bring warm clothes and ponchos! I saw the "snow" at DL when I took my DD two years ago. It was magical and I cried too.

PRINCESSplazola: Your family is beautiful. I love HM so much too...I may delay my trip till it's back up.
