We'll be at Disneyland July 30, staying at the Disneyland Hotel. I was just wondering what the people who have stayed there think about it. Thanks! :earsgirl:

we stayed at the disneyland hotel in dec and are going back in aug so i guess that says something! :cheer2: what i like esp is the 24-7 feeling of being in the middle of the "magic" and of course the relative proximity to the parks -i also like being able to open the window and go outside on a mini balcony and get a breath of air - the pool is awesome and the lobby is great too!

the only negative i can think of is the rooms could be a teeny bit bigger but i tend to like alot of room to spread all my and the kids' stuff in

hope that helps

Out of the 3 DLR hotels that we stayed at, we enjoyed both the GC and the DLH. The GC is just beautiful and it's an added feature of being so close to the parks and the action at DTD. However, we feel that the decoration of the DLH really captures that Disney Magic. The exterior looks dated but the interior is very nice.

Unlike Lap3 we thought the exterior was nice and the interior was very dated and dirty. I was actually in the lobby one day complaining about our room and there was a lady crying to a CM about the lack of hot water and how dated the hotel was.

Our first stay at the DLH in 2003 was really great but I think that was because our first trip in 2001 we stayed at a friendly neighbor hotel so we were excited to be at the DLH. This time, we were very disappointed for several reasons and I don't think we'd go back to stay there. Originally we had reservations at the Grand but I switched us the the DLH and regretted it big time, especially once I walked through the grand. The DLH's carpets were just nasty, and there were so many people that were in the lobby complaining about one thing or another. One day the Marina tower had no hot water. The day after that we got moved to that tower (upon request) and the 7 days we were there we were either scorched with burning hot water every other minute, or froze with the water, lasting long enough to make you scream. It was awful, not good for the little ones to shower in that's for sure. One couple checked in and they didn't have any rooms for them because they had them coming in Jan. 2006, imagine the stress - we had it too there.

If anything, call a few days before you arrive and request either the Marina or Sierra tower. Originally they had us in the backside of the Bonita tower and one, we were looking straight at the elevator wall and second, the air conditioner was so loud everytime it clicked on, every few minutes.

Definite 2 thumbs down

We will never stay there again! Paid extra money for a view of the top of the coffee house and people drilling away at the top of the coffee house. The coffee house had horrible coffee that was overpriced. There are no pots in the room. The interior that I was all excited to see was not so great. We had maids quarters or there party room or whatever on our floor. The beds are great though and the rooms are big. Believe me I am a true believer in the magic of Disney but I was very very dissapointed. The one nice thing was the pictures in the lobby of Walt and all the famous faces. But I don't need to stay there to see that again. :sad2:

Meagan,
I read your thread about your most recent experience at the DLH. Sorry to hear that you had to go through that. FWIW, I've been fortunate enough to stay at the DLH and have never(knock on wood) had a bad experience with them. For us, we would go back there in a heart beat!...but that's just us...

Thanks lap! Good to hear you've only had positive times there. I really didn't think it would have been possible to be so disappointed in anything disney, but I surely was. We wasted a whole day trying to get a room change, with no compensation or appologies at all. The man who finally made things happen for us the day after our arrival was shocked they put us where they did for the length of stay. :confused3

I must add though that we loved the beach pools. They were SO warm, and shallow enough for our 3 year old to walk around in which she thought was great. The Neverland pool was fun with the waterslide but one night we were sitting in the hottub and a little boy had just thrown up in the pool and the grandparents decided they weren't going to tell anyone about it 'because he was only 5 and there was enough clorine in the pool to kill anything' :sad2: THAT was enough for me in that pool :rotfl: Definitely not DLH's fault, but ugh on those people. Gross!

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone go through an ordeal as you did. I didn't finish reading your thread but did any of the CMs make amends for you in some way? Maybe a reduced cost on the room? Comped meals? Etc?... BTW, it's gross when there's vomit in the pool but to leave it there? That's just totally wrong. At least have the decency to ask a CM or a janitor to clean it up or something, right? Regardless, my kids dig the pool as well. We find that going to the parks early to avoid the crowds in the morning then leave when it gets warmer and crowded in the afternoon to go back to the pool works for us. Afterwards, they take their nap and we return in the evening where it's cooler(in the summer time) and less crowded. Plus, they enjoy viewing the fireworks and parades. But, I digress...

Well, I hope your experience at the DLH didn't put too much of a damper on your vacation...

So wild to see this...just because when I stayed there I had the smallest hotel room I've ever been in in my life...no exaggeration. It was shaped like an "L" and there was only about a foot and a half of space on either side of the queen sized bed (one bed only). The rest of the L was a long, narrow corridor to the door (the closets were in the wall in this corridor). From what I've read from others it seems it was a converted part of extra space or something, but I don't think they should really rent it out as a regular room. :sad2: At least I know from the DIS boards that not ALL of the rooms at DLH are like this! At the time of my stay, I had figured all the rooms were tiny and didn't think to ask to move. Funny to hear descriptions of the large rooms at DLH after my experience! :earsboy:

I have read that some of the rooms have a bathroom with a separate vanity area, but the larger rooms have a regular bathroom. Has anyone gotten a large room with a daybed that has a separate vanity area? These are both important to me since we will have 4 adults and one teen.

We had a daybed room and it was a regular bathroom, but it was big! When you first walked in there was a long counter with two sinks and the shower. The toilet was in a seperate little room with a door, but you have to walk through the bathroom to get to it. I hope that makes sense!

This is what we need to request since there are 5 of us....

Ack!
I feel nervous about staying there now... nothing grosses me out about a hotel room more than nasty carpet. :guilty:

Yes, I am having the same thoughts. All I can say is that when we stay at Disney World we always stay at the Contempary Resort, and a lot of people complain about dirty rooms and such, while we have never had a problem there. Hopefully this is going to be the same situation.

I just posted on another thread about the DLH. You can read all my particulars on that one! I just have to say that I am sorry some people have had bad experiences. A bad experiences when it is happening to you is the end of the world (and I mean that literally, especially on a Disney vacation where its supposed to be non stop magic). However, there were thousands of people staying there at the same time and there is no way to know what their experiences were. I have stayed there 5 times and never had a problem. I am sort of OCD when it comes to cleanliness and the DLH has always met my expectations. I have always thought the carpet was nice and clean but one group of pigs can do a lot to ruin a room's condition. I love the hotel, recommend it to friends and relatives who have also had nothing but good experiences. I would stay there and not worry too much, if its bad you can pm me a nasty one when you get home! Also, if you make your problems known immediately they might be taken care of. I believe one of the previous posters got a bad location on her room and got a new one.

All I expect is a clean room, clean bathroom, common courtesy and the mindframe that a customer (guest) is always right:) and that they will do anything they need to make it right (if something comes up) so that everyone's stay is a wonderful one. I am also expecting the usual "stuff happens" and we will deal with it as it comes just in case.

I won't hesitate to bring something to their attention (vomit in pool ewwww!) if need be.

I can't wait however to gooooooo!!! and excited to stay at DLH.

We just got back from our vacation and we stayed at DLH and have nothing but good things to be said. I would go back there in a heart beat. Everyone was wonderful and very helpful in making sure our vacation was a sucess which it was.

I guess I should have added that the carpets in the room weren't so bad, it was the carpets out in the hall that were gross. But at least I didn't feel icky in the room and I am SO OCD, diagnosed and everything :rotfl:

The housekeepers did a nice job to the rooms everyday. The girls had a ton of stuffed animals and Addie has some special blankets, when we came back they were always set up really cute on the beds and covered with Addie's blankets. I always got a feeling of respect with out things when we'd come back.

I'll also mention that I was encouraged to see a housekeeper washing the halls in the hallway one morning.
