Torn between saving the money and doing Marriott vs Doing it right at DL Hotel. Considerable price difference. My BF is paying for the trip but is the DL Resort worth it?

In full disclosure I am a WDW ONSITE girl all the way as I don’t like leaving the Magic. I would never stay offsite. I’d stay in a moderate or deluxe. Love the service but I’m not sure if that’s as important at Disneyland.

We could probably stay 4 nights as opposed to 3 if we do the Marriott.

Help!

If it means going less often, or staying offsite, we always choose go less often.

We have only stayed at on-site hotels until this year and I was really nervous. We recently stayed on Harbor in January and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The walk was shorter to the park entrances than the Disneyland Hotel and with the money saved we were able to do more experiences like Blue Bayou Fantasmic Dining and World of Color Dessert. My vote is a hotel on Harbor now unless you plan on staying in your room more or using the pools, then I would vote Disneyland Hotel for sure. They have an awesome pool and the rooms are really nice.

To me it is night and day on staying on site vs off site in terms of vibe and experience...but only if it does not cut in to your trip budget otherwise.

If it means a longer trip...off site is a no brainer IMO.

It is a quick walk from the Courtyard and you are walking with loads of excited people doing the same thing. What makes it feel out of the bubble for me is the homelessness. I feel like a jerk walking by them with my bags of Disney and a full belly going to my nice hotel. you won't have that at DL hotel. Courtyard is lovely :)

I’m from Baltimore. Won’t phase me. Lol.

While the area is generally safe...my last trip we passed a lady having a very animated conversation with a tree...little different vibe than entering and eating the parks on the DTD side.

I usually choose quality over quantity. I'd stay a shorter time to be on site. I find it far superior for my trips--no motel compares to DLH or GCH in any way and I want to be close. People always talk about how close the motels on Harbor are but it's also the quality of the distance, and for me, DTD is WAY better than Harbor. There is an entire complex for entertainment, dining, and shopping at the on site hotels compared to fast food nearby, a motel parking lot pool, and a cheap lobby gift shop. There are nicer options that are farther away and there are new, nicer hotels under construction, but for now I prefer on site. However, I sometimes meet friends and they don't want to spend the money to stay on site, so I will share a motel with them. It does make me miss my on site visits a great deal.

We are only at our hotel from 9pm-7am so the value would not be there for me in the slightest. We really like the Courtyard, (and the RI convention center, which has more of an adult vibe but it also a 10 min walk.)

If you are used to the bubble that is staying onsite at WDW, you may want to consider staying onsite if this is going to be a rare trip to Disneyland. We are WDW veterans, and we just moved to Southern California in June. We did our first trip to Disneyland in June, and we stayed at a motel on Harbor. It was shocking to this WDW on site girl how different it felt with all the homeless people, the guy with the parrot, the people sleeping in the bus stops. We stayed at the DLH in October, and I loved it. However, I have adjusted my expectations, because we come up from San Diego monthly, and we just can’t drop $400 plus per night that frequently. However, if we were rich, I’d never stay offsite. It would be the GCH or DLH all the way.
That being said, the walk from the Courtyard Marriott is nicer than walking from the Katella direction. We stayed at Hotel Indigo on Katella once, and I really disliked the walk. Homeless people literally everywhere and people handing out leaflets etc. It is just so different from staying onsite!

yup.The walk on the North end of Harbor is more pleasant than toward Katella. But the parrot guy! Forgot about him. I am curious to try the new Westin on Katella at the DTD side

I am as well, and I’m hoping they have a great pool. I wonder if they’ll have a shuttle to Disneyland.
Will the Westin be close enough to enter the parks through DtD? I am not familiar with that area.

Thanks everyone I’ll keep an eye out if they come out with a discount we might move to the Disneyland Hotel. Right now it’s double the price.

He’s really good to me including two trips to New York. One last month and one this spring ... we are also going to Vegas before this trip for a business conference which I’m paying for .. then after this trip I’m off to Chicago for another conference which I’m paying for. (I own a business) So .. It’s a lot or I would offer to pay for the upgrade to stay on-site.

I’m sure he would do it if I said that’s what I really wanted… But I don’t want to take advantage. I would feel bad. Ya know?

I have not staid in that area either. but I understand we used to be able to cut through the Grand, and no longer can, making it a longer walk.. A dedicated shuttle would be delightful!
