Disneyland Hotel standard view vs Paradise Pier Theme Park view

We are making a quick trip to Disneyland this weekend (Sat & Sun nights). We will be using DVC points. There is a 2 point difference between the 2 room types. Besides the view, any real differences in the room sizes, etc?
Also, does anyone know if you can pay for an upgrade to Concierge level at checkin since we cannot book it using points?

I believe the rooms are bigger at DLH and the decor is certainly better there.

Paradise Pier rooms are slightly bigger. I think we asked on our last trip using points and I believe that you can upgrade to concierge with cash. The price wasn't worth it to us and we were looking forward to eating at some of our favorite places.

I believe rooms are bigger at PPH and the view is incredible. I'd choose (and have chosen, when price was close) PPH, but I'm a sucker for a view. Can't imagine staying without one!

We haven't stayed at the DLH, but our theme park view room at PPH last Oct. was absolutely amazing! They play the World of Color music in the room so you can watch from your window (you obviously lose a lot of detail being that far away, but it was still amazing to see every night!)

Tough call. I've only stayed in a standard room at PPH and was vastly underwhelmed. I'd not stay there again. There is no comparison between the hotels IMO if you are talking about grounds, amenities, decor, and ambiance. The room sizes are so close that I didn't notice any difference--both are good sized.

However, I have seen pictures of theme park view rooms from PPH and they look fabulous, so I'd say either way you would be happy.

I'm also a sucker for a view...we stayed at the PPH in October and this was our view, we also opted for the concierge services:

We're returning in July...I almost booked DLH, but I really loved seeing WOC from our room in the evening. Seeing the show from a different perspective gives you a whole new outlook on it. (And you can hear the music if you turn the TV to the right channel.)

I would do the PPH Theme Park view. It's a great view, and every bit as nice a room as DLH.

Good quesstion! I'm trying to decide on a PPH theme park view room and extra fun activities or a standard at GCH with not very many extra fun activities for our honeymoon in September. Tough decision! But if it were in between DLH standard or PPH TPV I'd totally go for PPH with the view. Krispen, great pics!!! :thumbsup2

Well, I'm going to disagree with this, but I've only stayed at PPH once and DLH many many times. I would have to say I have a lot of affection for DLH which may color my view.

But...PPH's bathroom is very much inferior to DLH's. I am a stickler for getting resort amenities when paying resort prices and found PPH lacking. At DLH, the counters are granite and everything is set out in a very classy way. PPH had a funky showerhead and fewer amenities. In our room, the water temperature fluctuated wildly. Our housekeeping services were not as good. There were no bathrobes in the closet and the decor, while cute, was not nearly as nice as the DLH furniture IMO. We actually had a tiny plastic battery-operated clock! The room was a good size and the beds comfy but the refurbished rooms at DLH are SO much prettier and a lot more fun.

The whole pool area was closed and drained during our stay. There were drain hoses and equipment everywhere and no pool, waterslide, spa, or outdoor area at all available to guests. Since PPH has very limited outdoor areas to begin with, that was disappointing. DLH has lush, beautiful grounds that cover acres and include outdoor dining, an outdoor fireplace, gazebo area, etc etc.

PPH has the beautiful theme park views, but other than that, there isn't much there that I find appealing. The dining options are nothing much, the lobby is very meh, and the elevators can be frustrating. I never felt like I was connected to the rest of DLR, but that isn't true for everyone. To me, PPH is just a standard hotel that has thrown some Disney touches on it, while DLH is a resort hotel full of the magic of Disney.
