I like pool or resort view. Each has its merits and I don't really care which I get. I generally request resort view because I prefer the Dreams tower. This has nothing to do with the rooms being renovated but is simply because I prefer the location (you can practically step out of the tower into DTD). I think pool view is prettier but resort view is fun, esp. if there is holiday decorations and music etc.
I like the Magic tower because it is very convenient. It's the main tower where the lobby is housed, is closest to dining and is still located near the pool & DTD. If you happen to get a parking lot view in Magic, it's at least a nicer parking lot with views towards DL and fireworks than the standard view in Wonder, which is practically on top of the employee parking lot. It's just an elevator ride away from shops, coffee, and food.
I am not one to love the upper levels of hotel towers, so that's not a big draw for me.
I've stayed in both renovated and non-reno'd rooms and I like both. I wouldn't be disappointed with a non-reno'd room, as I like the whimsical, fairy-tale decor. The new rooms are sleek and modern. I like them, too, but I know I'll miss the storybook look and the sliding doors in the old rooms.
I *personally* don't care for the Wonder tower. It's far away from the lobby and amenities of the hotel and the farthest walk to DTD/the parks. To me it feels like an in-law unit or something. Now I have to add that I've not had good luck staying in that tower. One time our room was right over some parking lot place where trucks made a ton of noise; once our sink backed up in the middle of the night and left us with a very nasty smell; and all 3 times I've stayed in that tower I've had to wait forever for the elevator. On the plus side, the waterfalls and koi ponds are right there and are very nice, and I have heard that there are nice large rooms in that tower, though we have not had one.
As far as the fireworks, I watched them once from our balcony in the Dreams tower (with the sliders open, pre-reno) and it was nice, but overall I don't find the fireworks view from the hotel to be any big deal. It certainly doesn't figure into my decision on room choice. Just wanted to let you know that it doesn't come close to what you'd see if you were in the parks, but it's nice if (like me) you have children that don't do fireworks and it's the only way you can view them.
