disneyland hotel question

What is the verticle "thing" that goes ground to roof on the outside of the building? Is it the elevator?

Yes, that is correct. But it isn't the general public elevator. Someone would need to chime in to clarify. It either goes to a resturaunt or the conceirge lounge, can't recall.

I believe the elevator went to the concierge lounge. However, due to the recent hotel renovation, the elevator has been removed.

Yes it is/was the glass elevator to the concierge lounge. Not a bad ride either.
