Disneyland Hotel question and a couple more

I was wondering if one tower is better then the other and if so can you request one over the other?

Also which hotels outside of Disney do you prefer. I saw some one post that the Park Vue is right across the street and is suppose to be nice is there any other hotel that is close to the main gate that you recommend.
We stayed off the property once and the place was terrible but I had nothing to go on didnt know about this board.

We have stayed at both the wonder tower and the tower where the main lobby is at (I think it's called the magic tower, but don't quote me on it )

The rooms are the same but we like the magic one better. The view of the pool is nice and it's closer to everything. On the other hand, if you enjoy the sound of water, you might ask for a room on the wonder tower that faces the waterfall on a low floor. We had one on the 4th floor last time and it was really nice.

We just stayed in the Marina tower and had a great view of the pool area and could see Downtown Disney by looking to the left. One side of rooms in all three towers will have a view of the pool (the Bonita tower has the extra bonus of being able to see the koi ponds as well). On the other side of the Sierra tower, you'll be able to see Downtown Disney and have a view of the fireworks (rooms on the parking lot side of the Marina tower and pool side of the Bonita tower should be able to see the fireworks as well).

[[Sierra, Marina, & Bonita are the "old" names for the towers, and you'll see that a lot of us here prefer to use them over the "new" names of Magic, Wonder, & Dreams, and I don't even know which towers those new names go to.]]
