Disneyland Hotel-Pool View or Calif. Adv. view?

This is the question my TA asked me when she booked our room and I told her Calif. Adv. view but I want to make sure I picked the right view. Does this view have a balcony? All she told me is I have a premium room on the upper level, whatever that means:confused3

Help?

As long as you are on an upper level, I think either view would be fine. On our most recent trip, we had a pool view on the second floor, and it was way too noisy, but friends of mine who had a pool view from the 9th floor a few years ago had no trouble with the noise. (They did not have a balcony, and I am not sure any of the rooms in that tower did.)

That was one of my concerns was the noise with a pool view room but I don't know what floor I'm on. Maybe I'll just stick with my Calif. Adv. room.

My other question....is concierge worth it? I was thinking of asking my TA to price it to see what the difference is.

I have not done concierge, but it sounds intriguing to me, depending on the price difference. There are several threads on here debating the merits of concierge.

We booked a "standard view" for our recent stay, and found ourselves on the top floor of the magic tower with a little balcony. If we looked to the right, we could see practically the entire DL park, and to our left was downtown LA. Great view, and I didnt think we had reserved anything special. FWIW, we used DVC points for most of our stay, but I dont really see why that would have an impact on our room location...

Here's some photos of our the DLH Dreams Tower DTD view. (I assume that's what your TA is meaning when she says DCA view).

Dangermouse-Thanks so much for that pic! At least that gives me some sort of an idea. Is that a balcony you had?

I don't believe the DLH has "balconies". What they do have is floor to ceiling windows that slide open with a little ledge and railing (like you see in my photo). You can barely fit your foot on it.

So it opens up but you can't walk out onto it?

Yep. Look again at the pic. My ds(6)'s foot barely fits on that ledge. It didn't bother me one bit though, since we were upgraded to this room when we booked a standard. Once I opened the curtains and saw floor to ceiling glass looking out over both parks I was just in awe. :cloud9:

We have had both pool view and DTD (DCA) view in the Dreams tower. We loved them both and didn't find the pool view noisy at all! Whatever you get I'm sure you will like. We did concierge at DLH in November 2007. DH was at a conference so the room was all expenses paid. Would I do it if I had to fork over the extra $95/night myself? Maybe, now that we have been spoiled by it once! It's nice to be able to take drinks and snacks from the lounge to fill the backpack. It saved us a ton of money at the parks! $95/day savings? Not sure about that! It's also nice to have the breakfast at the lounge first. No arguing about where to eat for breakfast, when everyone is just starving and antsy about getting to the parks! Happy hour is nice if you're ever there between 5 and 7. Free wine and beer, along with a warm appetizer and other stuff. The kids loved going for a swim in the evening, then stopping by the lounge for a hot chocolate and cookies before bed.

Long story short, we loved it and may do it again, even though it costs an arm and a leg.

Thanks so much for this info. I'll tell my TA to find out the cost and let's see what she comes back with but I'm glad you said it was $95 a night so I have something to work with.

Anyway you can remember what type of items they had for breakfast? Do they have cereal for my boys?

If I'm paying for concierge I will be certain to be back at the hotel in time for evening service and I like that it's just not wine and cheese as the website says.

I am assuming you were above the second floor! The second floor pool view was awful! I was happier in a second floor room overlooking the main hotel entrance. That room was larger and quieter. Our second floor pool view room in the Dreams tower was cramped (no daybed/couch) and you could hear everyone walking along the walkway (and rolling their luggage) between the tower and the pool (which was tons of fun when a group of inebriated young adults were whooping it up out there in the middle of the night).

That said, on a previous visit, my friends were on the 9th floor, and other friends were on the 5th floor, of the same tower, with a pool view and they had no trouble with the noise. They also had the bigger rooms with the daybed/couch set up.

I think it depends on which tower and maybe even which floor you're on. We were in the Magic tower overlooking the lobby entrance and our "balcony" was big enough that we could stand on it and we could have closed the door behind us but that was about it. There wasn't enough room to put a chair out there or really even sit out there.

Yes, they have lots of kinds of cereal, both healthy and sugar laden (Froot Loops is what my kids had EVERY morning - hey, we're in Disneyland). They also had lots of fruit (both cut up and whole in a fruit bowl), pastries, pb&j Uncrustables sandwiches, and bagels to toast. Milk, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate. Nothing hot for breakfast, but that was ok with us because we don't eat that kind of breakfast normally. Everything is buffet-style.

We took snacks from the lounge for the backpack. There were granola bars, fruit, bottled water, juice boxes, cans of soda, etc. The CMs actually encouraged us to take stuff for snacks.

For happy hour they had a lot of fruit again, cheese, goldfish crackers, chips and salsa, and one hot appetizer (which changed from day to day). Examples of the appetizers were meat skewers, cheese filled wontons, samosas. And of course, wine and beer.

The bedtime snacks were brownies, chocolate chip cookies (our fave), pastries, fruit.

No matter what time of day you go, even if it's between the times that they officially "serve" something, you can get something to eat and drink. The fridge is stocked with water, soda and juice and you just help yourself. If you want milk, just ask. They are very nice, and helpful there.

Oh, and the lounge hours are 6:00 am (or maybe 6:30), until 10:00 pm and they have cartoons or the Disney Channel showing on the tv by the "kids table" from morning 'til night.

If you're having a "down" day, or an evening when the kids are in bed early, you can also get free movies from the lounge. All concierge rooms have a DVD player in them.

If you have any more questions, just ask, or pm me, or email me. I'd be happy to share! :goodvibes

During our last stay booked what I was told was a DT disney view but received a pool view. I questioned it and was told there is only a premium view and it is either the pool or DT disney and it is assigned at check-in. I guess maybe I was supposed to call a week or 2 ahead of time and put in the specific request for DT disney? We also recieved one of the small rooms in the main tower...I was disappointed in the size of the room since we had 3 adults and 2 children with one in a pack-n-play. Not sure how you avoid those small rooms?
