Heading for Disneyland for the first time in like 11 years and decided to stay overnight. With a discount code, I was able to get a pretty decent rate at the Disneyland Hotel for a pool view room. I asked and Paradise Pier was a few dollars less for a city view. I asked the Cast Member which he would choose and he stated the DL hotel. I tried the discounted rate at the Grand Californian, but considering we are only going to be there overnight, $280 was alot of money for one night.

Am I going to like the DL hotel? How are the rooms? We have a lower level pool view room. Is this a good view? Which section of the hotel would it be in? How far of a walk is it from the DL hotel to the DL park? Is the monorail faster? How far is it to CA?

I MUCH prefer the Disneyland Hotel over the Paradise Pier. Paradise Pier is just getting toward the end of an extensive remodel with a new look in the rooms. They look nice but I still like DL hotel better. Paradise Pier rooms do not have any balconies or windows that open up to outside. The windows open just a crack and thats it.
The DL hotel room will be bigger. Request a room with 2 queens and a daybed in the Sierra tower and you will have a large room, decorated nicely with loads of Disneyland touches. Disneyland hotel rooms do not have balconies either but they have sliding doors that open up wide and have a railing right there. In good weather it is like bringing the outdoors into your room. In the Sierra Tower there are two sliders that open away from eachother making a large opening for two people to sit at. The grounds are extensive and fun at the DL hotel and the Paradise Pier virtually has no grounds. The Paradise Pier hotel city view will be from the back of the hotel overlooking the parking lots and suburbs of Anaheim.

You can also go to Expedia and enter your destination for Anaheim and look at the photos when you find the Disneyland hotel

Disneyland Hotel is definitely nicer than Paradise Pier. It's more "Disney" (That's the best way to describe it.) It's about a 10 - 15 minute walk to Disneyland / DCA. The Monorail is about a 5 minute walk from the Hotel. The Monorail only has 2 stops; inside Disneyland at Tomorrowland and then again in Downtown Disney. It can save you time depending on what time of day you're heading for the park. In the morning when the parks open, there's usually a long line at the Monorail station. So it's probably about the same amount of time it would take you to just walk over to the main entrance. It wouldn't help you at all for DCA because it doesn't stop there.
The rooms at the Disneyland Hotel are nice. They seem bigger and fresher than PP. I like the glow-in-the-dark Tinkerbell wallpaper border. I think there are 3 towers, if I remember correctly. Since you'll have a lower pool view, you probably wouldn't be in the tower closest to Paradise Pier because that's near the waterfall area and you wouldn't really be able to see the pool unless you were higher up. The two towers with pool views are closer to Downtown Disney and closer to the parks too.

Have fun.

I have to agree with everything everyone else said... The Disneyland Hotel is really nice and has much more "magic" than Paridise Pier... I really love Grand Californian if you can splurge.
