Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian, and why?

Is this true?? They will be stopping the rollaway beds???

That is what I was told by both DLH and GC. Another poster mentioned that the rooms are 2 small and that is why they don't do it due to fire hazzards...

We bring our blow up bed and it fits great!!!! room to walk around. The rooms seem to be much the same size at both Hotels. I have also found that we are treated better at GC....and maid service is great!!!!

We just came back yesterday...word of advice don't go during spring break!!! We live only about 1 hr 20 minutes away so we go all the time but needed my Disney fix so we went last minute.

Also mentioned that DLH has Goffeys kitchen but GC has Storytime CAfe with Chip and Dale and other Characters and there Buffett is much much better.

Stay at DLH if kids are young, and other if kids are older. DLH has more of the Disney atmosphere in decorations. But we just love walking outside GC into CA and DTD. It out beats DL IMO with beauty and feeling like you are royalty and staying where the rich stay. They make you feel special there and I don't get that from DLH. :thumbsup2

Just found this information on another website regarding square footage:

DLH standard rooms: 364-415 sq ft.

PP standard rooms: 364 sq ft.

GCH standard rooms: 353 sq. ft.

And I just want to say that I felt "very special" when I stayed at the DLH. And I had already experienced the "oh so posh" GCH. ;) Oh, I also prefer Storytellers over Goofy's. But I have no problem walking over to the GCH and taking full advantage of their ambience, fireside seating, piano listening and eating at their restaurants without paying their ridiculous rates to stay in their smallish rooms.

Hi, I am new to the Forum, first time here.

I live in Calgary, Canada and spent two weeks in California (Anahiem) last year (2006). We bought annual passes so we thought the family should go back. (Two boys, 7 and 9).

We stayed at the Anabella Hotel last year for 14 nights. This year, we have booked 10 nights at the Disneyland Hotel and 6 nights at the Paradise Pier Hotel. Recieved confirmation notices a couple of days ago.

My question: we received 10% off as annual pass holders and that was it, do you know of any other specials given the length of time we are there?

Also, please tell me we made the right choices!!! :confused3

Sometimes deeper AP discounts can be had but bascially you just have to keep calling to see if they have anything available. I have had AP's off and on for about four years and have yet to get a discount more than 10%. However, I haven't tried for an AP discount in awhile as we use our Disney Vacation Club points at Disneyland now.

I think you made a great decision! I have stayed at all three onsite hotels and love them all. The Disneyland Hotel is my favorite of the three, I like the large, bright rooms and all that Disney magic. Paradise Pier is also a lot of fun and my kids really love that slide. I think you will have a wonderful time!

Welcome to the Disboards!

I have a different take on it. The rooms are too small to provide a rollaway. It would go against the fire code because there wouldn't be enough floor space to get out the door. So they give you a sleeping bag and say it's the outdoorsy experience? PUH-LEASE!!!! Find me one other "Luxury hotel" outside of Disney in the country that offers their guests a sleeping bag.:confused3

This is my observation as well. It might be enjoyable for kids though. Storyteller's is a big plus. Good food and character interaction without the mayhem of Goofy's Kitchen.
I have also found that the DLH pool is always dirty. The tiles are always covered in slime. Think it is due to all the little ones swimming in it.
Uh-oh-- is this typically an issue? My mom and I are going for Mother's Day week and she is so looking forward to DLH. We usually treat her to a trip to WDW (we're a huge Disney family) and stay at the Boardwalk.

This year as a treat we're going on a girls-only trip to DL. (This will be quite a trip because neither of us has been out west before.) When I asked her which hotel she wanted to go to at DL, she really wanted to try DLH.

Well, in five stays over four years, I have never noticed any moldy tile issues at the DLH pool. Its always been very clean. As was the pool at the GCH and Paradise Pier. I have stayed at many Disney owned resorts and their cleanliness standards have always been great for me.

The DLH is different from the Boardwalk in that its three highrise towers. But the walk to the parks is roughly the same as the walk from BW to MGM and Epcot. Probably a bit shorter in fact, straight up DTD which is very nice.

I think you will have a great time, enjoy your first trip to the west coast!

Thank you for your response! Good advice, I will call occasionally, we don't arrive until July 10, so I do have some time. By the sound of it, I'm glad that I booked early!!

I'm more excited than my kids! Back to the beaches too!!

Food too? I didn't realize that-- good news.

Go to www.disneyland.com and check out the annual passholder's section. They have a list of all the places where you get discounts. That 10% really adds up on the food, especially at the sit downs which are pretty expensive. We are taking a total of 8 people to Goofy's in June and that will really help out!
