Offsite is way cheaper (and lots of options) Onsite is pretty darn awesome. If it's in your budget onsite is just so easy. Last year we stayed at The Grand Californian and we could literally "run" up to our room and be back at DCA in less than 5 min. If it's a busier time of year onsite gives you early entry as well on certain mornings which can be a huge advantage at DCA for the premium rides.
We're DVC though so we've been able to use our points for GC or DL hotel.
