We recently stayed at the Disneyland Hotel for three nights on points. The hotel looked to be well maintained and the room was nice and clean. We were assigned a room on the top floor of the Bonita building. The room was facing the parking lot (instead of the pool and the inner courtyard) and was either the 4th or 5th room from the right side of the building. When we first entered the room, we were pretty happy with what we saw. But as soon as we open the sliding doors to the balcony, we noticed a very loud fan noise coming from below. We couldn't figure out what was making the noise but it was definitely loud and continuous. We quickly closed the doors. With the doors closed we could still hear the noise but it was bearable. I have two questions: the first one is, does anyone know what's making the noise? The second question is a little bit more sinister. I am sure the Disneyland hotel people are aware of the noise. Do you think they put DVCers staying on points in those rooms because they think we are not really paying with "real" money? Anyone with either similar or contrary experience please chime in.

At least you had a balcony. DH and I stayed at the Disneyland Hotel (we paid cash) last December (I think it was the Sierra Tower), and we had no balcony.

How far out did you book your vacation? I am considering a trip and was wondering how long before I would need to book?

We stayed at the DLH just a month ago on points and got a DTD view it was awsome, they even gave some 2 pins of the POC ride because we were DVC members. :cool1:

Both times we stayed on points we had pool views and were in rooms with the extra daybed as well as the other two beds. I don't think they discriminate because you are on points. It may just be what is available at the time. I was actually surprised to get the pool view room last time as it was the day after the 50th anniversary and the hotel was pretty well booked. We had stayed just down the street because I could not get the 1st 2 nights of the trip and did not expect to get a great room when we did check in. I don't know the name of the tower but it was the one the lobby is in.

I don't know about anyone else but we were able to open the sliding doors but I would definitely not call it a balcony - more like a 12" ledge. You could put the chairs in front of the door and pretend but you would be mostly in the room not out on a balcony.

Would use points there again but not at the GC - had a terrible room there - small and with a view of the entry portico and parking lot across the street.

We booked less than a month before the arrival date. I don't know the busy time for Disneyland Hotel, but you shouldn't have any problem getting a room there.

I agree the balcony is not very big. It is a balcony in the sense that you can stand on it and look at the sights below.

July '05 I stayed at the DLH and was in Sierra Tower DTD view but on the 2nd or 3rd floor so the view was nothing special. The room was huge though so I was pleased.

This year I asked for a Pool view in hopes of a better view. When I checked in at 6PM the Cast Member welcomed me home and said that I had been upgraded to Concierge Level. I smiled and immediately she said that of course I don't get the food but I do get a King size bed!! Big Deal, I was alone. Don't tell me I've been upgraded to Concierge if I don't get the ammenities.

The room was again DTD view on the 10th floor with an excellent view of the fireworks but it was about a 3rd the size of the room the year before. I literally had about 3 feet from the foot of the bed to the sliding glass door and 2 feet on either side of the bed. I have a feeling the room was the smaller 2nd bedroom of a suite because you entered a door in the corridor to find 2 doors side by side.

In addition, the first morning I was there I wanted to know what time the coffee shop opened, since there was no coffee maker, so I called down to the Front desk at 6AM. I was on hold for 10 minutes and no one ever answered.

You might have guessed but I don't see myself staying at the DLH in the future.

I think it's like room assignments at any other Disney property...so much depends on what time you check-in. Also, if the fan noise was that loud, it may have been heard from several different rooms, on several different floors. So, I don't think you were given that room because you were using points...I think it was just the luck of the draw.
