So we fit in a few days at the DLR as part of our honeymoon last week and I wanted to write up a trip report to share while it was still fresh in my mind.

First of all, big thanks to everyone on this board for all of their tips and advice, great contributions from so many people and I am eternally greatful. I hope this serves as some sort of 'pay back' and can help future Disney goers/entertain present ones.

Sunday October 12th - 2014

Woke up at 9 AM, our flight leaves at 2 PM. We pre packed our bags before the wedding, so it was just a matter of throwing in the last toiletry items and zipping it up. The wedding is a blur, goes by way to fast. A lot of people warned me of this but I didn't believe them. Regardless it was a huge success and everyone had a lot of fun, this bodes well for our luck moving forward!

We board the plane at our small air port and get ready to tackle a 2 hour transfer at Denver Internatioanl en route to SNA. I am expecting a big hassle at customs and a looooooong wait in line at security.. but about 30 minutes after landing we are through both and patiently waiting for our next flight. The good luck continues?

The connecting flight is not only on time, but early. What the H? Bags are on their way out before we even get there and its a quick scoop up and out the front doors as I wave good bye to the Duke. Cab ride to the DLR, arriving as a few families before us are checking in. The questions they are asking make me shake my head, don't people research this stuff ahead of time? When is the extra magic hour? What bars and restaurants are available on site? What shows are there this week? I knew this stuff 30 days ago!!! Ok.. wait.. maybe I have a problem then? :)

Regardless, we get up to the front desk with a laid back California gentleman helping us, we immediately click and a few jokes are exchanged. He congratulates us on the marriage and hands us two "Just Married" pins (which would be crucial moving forward) and then informs us that he is able to upgrade us to their best view available in the Disneyland Hotel! Well how about that.

Grab the bags, head over to the tower, forget the name, but it faces Downtown Disney. What floor is our room on? Top floor, ok then.. up we go and wow, the view was amazing. We looked right over DD, we could see a lot of the rides in DCA and DLR and just as we are taking this all in... fireworks start going off. So we sat in our room with the blinds wide open just taking in the entire show, talk about great timeing and a great start to the trip!

Quick shower to rinse the air port off of us and we are on our way to Trader Sams inside the DLH. This place is not to be missed, not to be missed, again, not to be missed!!!!111one!111eleven

The beer on tap was great, the food was even better, and my other half really enjoyed the 'slushie' style drinks. On top of that a number of the drinks come in speciality collector cups if you are into that kind of thing. We got a zombie cup that will look great holding our halloween candy for many years to come and serve as a reminder of the honeymoon. Must try food: panko crusted chinese long beans. The crew working the bar is also great, every time someone orders specific drinks there is a light show with sound effects and they get really into it. Great fun, great night. Off to bed though because we have a 8 AM start the next day and I want to hit Radiator Springs Racer..

Day 2 (or 1?) - Disney California Adventure! (and then Disneyland)

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Got me a lot of confused looks where ever I went.. but I was not going to let some holiday about a guy who invaded other peoples lands take over my turkey day! Oh wait..

Anyway, we were up at about 5:30 for our 8 AM extra magic hour at DCA. Grabbed some yogurt and waters from the Coffee House and off we go to the park. Get there at about 7:35 and there are probably 20ish people ahead of us. By the time the park opens that crowd has swelled to a number I couldn't count, but I am going to guess somewhere around 100.

I had a choice of any gate and the one I picked ended up being the last to open.. and on top of that the lady working it couldn't figure out her ticket scanner. Panic is starting to set in among those around me.. finally the gate cracks after we watch dozens others flood through before us. Then she tries to let the line beside us diverge into TWO lines and go ahead of us. What the heck? Outcrys from behind me quickly correct this and a supervisor on board comes over to apologize. The girl is new, no problems just let us in.. so they did.

Get to the rope drop area and there are a lot of people ahead of us, dangit. Ah well, employ operation Wide Right Technique. The left side was much more crowded, so we went right next to the curb on the right. We start moving forward and staying as far right as we can, it is a bit of a jumbled mess but it is working. We get up a bit closer and they halt everyone, explaining that RSR is down for the morning. Ahhh shucks, really? So some people start leaving, very loudly proclaiming how 'stupid it would be to wait in a line for a ride that is down!' And then looking around hoping others will follow them. About 10 minutes after all these loud mouths are gone, all of a sudden I see another supervisor type fellow doing a rough count of the crowd, and then miraculously the ride is up and running. Weird? Whatever, I stay to the right, the fire truck pulls out and they start shifting us to the right more and more, single file now, some pushing and shoving but at 6"2, 205 lbs there aren't many people pushing me around. I help a mom protect her kids in front of me, just disgusted with some people who would literally shove a little kid out of the way to get ahead of them in line.

Anyway, we swirl through the entrance way all the way to the front, I can see them racing on the track testing the run out. Get to the front and we are the 5th car on the track! The cast member takes one look at our pins, says congrats, tells us to wait up at the front, we get in the car and he stops the people behind us. Our own car? Really? What a treat.. that would happen a lot moving forward :D

RSR was worth the wait, well worth the hype, and was my favourite ride of the entire weekend hands down. Do it, do it, do it! We decided to skip getting a FP for it, we really enjoyed the ride (obviously) but since we had such good fortune we figured we would leave that FP for another family and hopefully be able to make some little guys day. Pay it forward guys.

From RSR we went over to Toy Story, which was also down, so then we went to California Screamin'. This was my very first roller coaster ever... and I will admit I was sketched out at first, but looking back it was a lot of fun. And it helped break me in for some of the easier rides later on. From here on out we basically just hopped around hitting every ride we could. Grizzly was down every time we checked that day, and we never did get on Toy Story, but we hit pretty much everything else available in the park. I have to say though that Ridemax let me down. Maybe it was the fact that so many rides were down so it messed with the queue times, but they were way off on everything. I quickly abandoned it and just went off my own research, but as we passed other rides I would always check the queue time and not even close to what they said it would be...

We basically rode until noon, then stopped for a bite to eat at Wine Country Tattaatoo or whatever it is called. The pasta was meh, I wasn't very impressed, but the wine flight was great. My favourite food from DCA was the Mickey Pretzel and Pale Ale I had while sitting on the edge of the Wharf watching the crowds move about. Great mid day break. After lunch it was over to the Alladin show, which was packed! Wow, maybe because it was so dang hot out and everyone wanted a break, but there were maybe 2 or 3 empty seats in the whole place by the time it started. Great show, very impressed. From start to finish they did a tremendous job and we left very happy.

Now it was time to tackle Disneyland! We had seen and done everything except WOC at DCA, so we decided it was time to switch gears...

Disneyland was quite packed, Touring Plans predicted a 6/10 and I remember thinking "man I would hate to see a 8 or higher!" But looking back now, they say it was a 8, so what I would hate to see - I saw. It was busy, but we were able to make it work. We weren't really there that day to do rides, more so just to take in the park. We did end up getting on a few, we fast passed Thunder Mountain which was great, we did it's a small world while we waited for the parade (where again, he haulted a huge crowd to give us our own 'honeymoon cruise', but now I just felt embarrassed and I am sure more than a few people were upset with us). Then we watched Mickey's Soundsational Parade, which was pretty good, highly entertaining. Curb side spots were open so we grabbed them, by the time the show started we were surrounded by little munchkins clamoring to get at Elsa and he prized float. We backed up and made some space to make sure all the little kids could get up close and personal with the characters, something that we noticed nobody else around us did. Really guys? Do you really need to be that close? Disney is for the kids! We had just as much fun watching their reactions than we did watching the floats. I wasn't expecting the nonstop "Elsa!! Elsa!!" shouts, but it was quite comical.

From here we went back over to DCA, just enough time to grab another pretzle and beer before WOC starts! We staked out some back spots by the Little Mermaid ride, off to the side. They were not ideal, but for showing up 2 minutes before the show started they were great. We enjoyed the show, it was incredible. We left with about 5 minutes left to beat the crowd rush back over to DL. We FP another ride and grabbed a drink before heading over to see what kind of spots were available for Fantasmic!. We asked a few cast members who were all very, very friendly and they gave us some tips on where would be the best spots. It wasn't overly busy for show #2, but I knew it would get packed right before show time. I will skip the details of this part as I am not sure what the other party would want said, but some extra Disney magic placed us in the middle of the VIP section, with nobody around us. We could not have asked for better seats. Maybe it was honeymoon favour, or just plain luck. But at any rate we were so happy and fortunate. The show was absolutely amazing, you have to be kidding me Disney.. how the heck do you do it? You just can't even describe how great Fantasmic! is and I am so grateful for our viewing spot.

After the show ended it was a slow trodd back to the hotel, 14 hours total in the park that day, with a lot accomplished. Time to rest those feet for day 2.. (3?, lol)

Loving your TR! Can't wait to read more...and congratulations on getting married!! :thumbsup2
