Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

WAFDL: I don’t think I’ll be able to experience it on this race weekend, but maybe a future one—Haunted Mansion. I’ve only seen the DL version with the NBC overlay, and I’m guessing that will still be on over this weekend.
I think 2022/2023 was the first time that it was extended beyond the first week of January, so it’s up in the air if HMH will still be happening at the time of the race, or if it will go back to the previous schedule and be removed in time for the race weekend.

Yes, both times I ran this weekend in the past (for SW) it had been closed down to switch back to normal HM. Hopefully they keep the overlay on for this race weekend.

WAFLD: Runaway Railway. Although I should experience it well before race weekend.

That works! :) Thanks @FFigawi !

I'm most interested in Space Mountain, just because the ride vehicles are so different. I also want to see what's different between HM and PotC. Like in WDW, some of the choices were made just because they already existed in the DL version, but DL needed those quirks to actually make the attraction work!
Space Mountain is extremely smooth in DL. I never miss it. But I can skip it in WDW and no big deal. In a sense, it's a completely different ride albeit with the same theme.

Haunted Mansion is similar with some differences. But assuming that the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay is still up, it very much changes the ride itself.
WAFDL: I love how Small World is at DL, and has its own building. The boarding area is outside and then you cruise inside for the ride.
One thing that I love about Disneyland is just how much attention it gives to Fantasyland. While new Fantasyland in the MK is great, the older part of that Fantasyland feels like rides put into a generic box facade.

Disneyland has different building facades for each Fantasyland ride instead of the ride in a box of most of the MK. Small World itself is a key part of the Disneyland skyline if you will.

WAFD: Carousel of.....oh, wait.
Winnie the.....hmmmmm, yeah, no

I think Guardians of the Galaxy. I have not been on this yet and am interested in whether it justifies ditching ToT. Also, I am really hoping to see any kind of overlay for HM.

WafDL: I've already been to both DLR & WDW. I think most things that are in both, are better in DLR.
Our favorite is Big Thunder Mountain in DLR. 🚂🐐Who else screams out "MMMooouunnntttaiinnn GGGooooaattt!!!!" when you go curving past the mountain goat?!?! Just our family?!?🤣*I hear that DL Paris Big Thunder Mountain is the best one in the world. I'm really looking forward to testing out that theory this summer if DLP is better than DLR.

Guardians is 110% worth ditching the ToT theme. I don't even really follow Marvel/Avengers, but adding the upbeat music and the characters that are so excited just make the ride so much better than the dark scary theme of ToT. You're gunna love it!

Yes! I love DL's Fantasyland being unique to each ride. They take advantage of the outside space and you know exactly which ride you're approaching.

WAFDL: Having just gone to DL for the first time two weeks ago and ridden the rides from both parks with a keen eye for differences, the ones that stuck out to me were definitely Space Mountain, PotC, and It's a Small World. Both versions are better in DL IMO. I loved how Small World snuck Disney characters into each country's theming in different ways. I don't remember the version at WDW doing any of that, unless they changed that in the last few years.
WAFDL: I'm excited to see the line queue for MMRR and the whole revamp of Toon Town. I've only done the After Dark overlay of Guardians at DL but it was chaotic, terrifying, and far superior than HS ToT. I loved it (I think)!! 😂
The queue for MMRR is ADORABLE in DL. I rode it on literally the last day they had the virtual queue with zero wait, and spent a ton of time checking out the queue on the way to the trains. You will love it. And, Guardians at DL is amazing. It may have been my favorite park at DL period.

WAFDL: Which ride or attraction that’s in both DL and WDW are you most looking forward to riding/experiencing and comparing between the two?

In this order:
#1 - Small World
#2 - Pirates
#3 - Haunted Mansion
#4 - Big Thunder Mountain

Small World holds a special place in my heart because it is one of the rides that I remember from my first trip to Disney World with my grandparents (Tea Cups is the other).

I agree on the Small World IP additions—that’s awesome without being intrusive or obvious
