Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

I received an email reply from runDisney this morning that transportation from the resort to the start will not be provided.

At least this answers the question of whether we will be able to walk through Downtown Disney to get to the starting line. That actually makes me feel a lot better about staying at PP.

OF COURSE they raise ticket prices overnight! Yikes! I had planned to get them either Monday or Tuesday of this week and got busy......ugggggg!!!!

Noooo!! I was waiting until the special kids pricing comes out later this month to get everyone’s tickets. 😩

I just got an email from a popular ticket broker (Undercover Tourist - not sure if it's going to let me use the name here) indicating that they still have DL tickets available at the old prices.

I haven't bought my 1-day ticket for 1/13 (since I am blocked out), as far as I know you can really only buy 1-day tickets direct and thankfully it only went up $10. But it is now $234 for the ONE day ticket with park hopper. Feels criminal considering we just paid $104 (granted without park hopper) for a day last month and my magic key was $699. Not doing PH would save money but it's a Saturday, I'm going to want to be able to park hop, nor do I know which park I will want to do most yet. Phew. This hobby isn't cheap!

I am SOOOOOOO glad I bought my tickets last week with that Trip Advisor deal because the same ticket today is almost $200 more now. 😯
Me, too!!! Thanks again to all of you on the thread who posted about this deal. I haven't calculated how much my 5-day hopper with genie+ tickets went up, but I was already feeling great about the savings so this only adds to it!

Really glad I pushed my friend to buy her tickets :(. But also bummed my pass is going up again before I was in my renewal window.

Since Disney built a parking lot on Disney Way, it seems to make sense that the race would start over there.

That parking lot has been there for awhile (even back when the races still happened previously). That's the Pumbaa lot a friend of mine liked to park in before it became all CM parking. Wasn't always open, but has definitely been there for awhile.

I'm still very intrigued they're using it and really curious as to why. I mean, I'm definitely benefiting from it (and I just did a video walking tour to it for a friend to show her how close it is to the hotel we're booked at) and trying to not look a gift horse in the mouth, but I feel like it might be a little more disruptive in that location to the surrounding hotels.

I can't wait to see the road closure map to see how they're going to handle it.

I have a four day pass and the one DCA day I'm doing will be low key. There are only two must do attractions for me, three IF they have the California Soarin'. I'm not an Avengers fan so I'll skip that, maybe do TSM if the line is reasonable. Since I'll be at Princess with family, I figure we'll do TSM the day we're at Studios.

Sadly they usually only bring it back for the Food and Wine festival in March and April :(

Also, with the park hoppers, if we don't get to the park until after 11 a.m., do we still have to start at the park where we have a reservation? I suspect for Sunday especially we won't get to the parks before hopping time. Which park would be "better" for a later morning start?
You still have to go to the first park. Of course, assuming there is availability at the other park for that day, you could just change your reservation and go there. No clue for which is better to start later--depends on what you prioiritize for rides, whether you will do ILL, Genie+ etc.

Honestly, my trip next week to Scotland and London required less planning than DL!
@sandam1 & @jmasgat
these are the terms and conditions of current theme park reservations.

based on this, for my arrival day when I won't get to a park until afternoon I've reserved DCA (to be nice by not taking up the more popular DL reservation) and I expect that I'll be able to enter DL first if I want.

Park Hopper Tickets

Guests with Park Hopper tickets should reserve for the first park they plan to visit on their selected date. They may cross over and switch between parks the same day beginning at 11:00 AM (subject to availability). After 11:00 AM, Guests with Park Hopper tickets who have a park reservation for both parks and who have not entered any park yet, may enter either park despite the first park that is designated in their park reservation. Please check the Park Hours calendar and the Disneyland app for the most up-to-date Park Hopper hours, as they could change, depending on the day and park. At this time, a park reservation is not required for the other park after visiting the first park; however, reservation requirements are subject to change. Please note that the ability to visit the other park will be subject to that park’s capacity limitations, operational hours, closures and other restrictions, and is not guaranteed.

What @LorrieAnn5 shared is correct. At DLR if it is after 11am, you can start at any park. No need to tap in first to your originally reserved park. This goes for both MKs and day ticket holders.

Thanks! I will look into it. I must have missed that email from them. That or I deleted it right away not thinking because I’m not normally ever looking for DL tix.

Blah on no transportation and I doubt the traffic hassle is worth driving from GCH. Still hoping the Grand entrance to DTD is open vs only the ends. Funny to be worried about a few extra steps while running a half marathon though haha!

I did a local 5K Saturday. 38 flat. My 40s PR is 37:53 so I was soooo close! It was hot coming back the last mile or so. Not sure what the temp was at that time but I’d guess about 80. We bumped back up to 100-105 this week.

Which leads me to my decision I need to make soon. Intervals or not. I’ve never run intervals before but I’m thinking of trying them. I’m still having such a hard time running consistently over 2.5 miles. But I also think it’s a lot mental.

Today we got the date for my 13 year old sons 3rd ever field trip- first one since third grade when Covid hit. They are going to iFly…. Indoor skydiving. I know hes reallllllly excited for this. It’s January 12. I’m so sad for him. DH is like eh, he’s going to Disneyland, he’s fine. But I’m also like he’s been to Disneyland many more times than field trips- 5 days since Covid, probably 20 in his life- so it’s a big deal to him. I havent told him yet. He’s running the 10K so staying home doesn’t really work. I looked at flights. We could do frontier for $34 each! But it’s really really tight with the timeline. Basically he'd be back at school at 1:50, so let’s say checked out by 2. The airport is 30 min away and the flight leaves at 3:35. We could send all our stuff with DH and DD So frontier would work… but if it’s gets cancelled or something…. Eek. I alsomthought We could drive afterwards. With the time change we’d get there around 7. Expo closes at 8. But again one bad traffic jam and we are toast. I think I know hes gotta skip the field trip, but I’m so sad for him. This is his only planned day to miss and he has perfect attendance so far! Total first world problem i know!

Feeling better today (except the Dbacks losing, lol). I had a solid but short run this morning. Still undecided on intervals. I suppose I can try them and see how it goes. Maybe this weekend since my before work run is shorter and mostly dark/dawn-so not too hot.

We decided I’ll take my son to iFly in the week before the race. Then he’ll be able to connect to the science lesson and he’s been wanting to do this forever anyway. He didn’t care all that much about the field trip aspect, lol. I guess when you’ve only been on two- a farm and the state capital- it doesn’t seem like you are missing anything.

The extra distance is worrisome because of doing a half marathon! I'll need to be able to get back to the hotel after the race!

I am mind blown that there's a school field trip to do indoor skydiving! My school district does not even allow bounce houses due to safety and liability issues. I'm glad you found a solution to the scheduling issue.

If you are doing the 5k, then I would definitely add intervals. The race is still about 3 months away, and so to me- it would be very boring to just run/jog a couple miles at the same pace every day. Not to mention you won't really see much benefit of doing that after a while. If you do intervals and you just got a 38 minute 5k, those intervals will easily get you down and you'll beat your 37:53 PR probably by a lot. Intervals should really only be done about once a week so you have time to recover. So I would pick an interval day- like say Tuesdays- and the first time just do something basic like sprint 20 seconds, jog two minutes. Do that maybe 6 times. Then next week try going 30 seconds with maybe 1:45 rest. See what works for you. But definitely do them if you want a faster time-- as they say if you want to run fast- then you have to train fast. If your goal is just to finish then you don't really need to do them. A couple weeks before the race stop doing them so again youre well rested/ tapered for the race.

Now if you are running the 10 k or half marathon, I wouldn't throw intervals into the mix since you are having a hard time just completing 2.5 miles, your training goal should be to first be able to complete a lot more miles before doing intervals, but again if you're doing the 5k, I would start right away and gradually bump it up based on how you feel. But with intervals, definitely warm up and cool down before and after, so maybe jog a mile, do a mile of intervals/rest/ and then cool down a mile -- for example, or you will risk injury. Probably a good idea to stretch as well before and / or afterwards.

I think you might be talking about different kinds of intervals 😅
