Disneyland Grand Californian

Hello all, I'm looking for an update to the question of how difficult is it to get into the Grand Californian right at the 7 month window. I'm thinking of traveling Oct or Nov 2014.

We got in right at 7 months to stay over Easter 2012 in a 2BR no issues. Also got our request of view over GC.

I'm 3 for 3 at exactly 7 months. Studio early May 2011, Studio late Sept 2012, 1 bedroom Aug 2013.

We are two for two, I get nervous as heck though leading up to the seven month window. We just booked the week of June 21st, got a two bedroom for the entire week.

I booked back in mid July at my 7 mos. window & was able to get a studio for our upcoming Presidents week trip. I was surprised , to say the least, but I'll take it for sure....Don't know if I'll be trying for GCV again , but happy to succeed at least once.

Not DVC per say, but most Colombus Day week is super busy at DL due to many schools having fall break that week. I'd avoid that week if possible.

I booked a 3 night stay at the first possible hour at the 7 mos. mark. Ten minutes later all rooms were gone! It is possible, but don't wait past 9:00a at the 7 month mark. Good luck!

As AZmermaid said Columbus weekend is busy. Also look at when Gay Days are. We went in Oct 2012 and were there for Columbus day which was also the end of Gay Days. All the rides had Loooong waits. 90 minutes for BTMRR, 40 for Pirates ect. Also look at school schedules for CA, AZ & NV as they tend to get weeks off in the fall for break. Since it is a small resort stuff like that effects it greatly, kinda like Jersey week in WDW. Did have to waitlist for some nights but they came thru within a few weeks.

Just booked on Friday at the 7 month window for VGC on Friday at opening time. Wanted split stay for 1 BDR 1st 3 nights then studio for 2 nights but that would be 2 different Checkin dates. Meant I had to wait til today for the 2nd part of trip. CM suggested to book whole trip for studio b/c it looked tight. Today I changed 1st 3 nights to 1BDR w/o problem! Good luck!

In October 2013 we stay at VGC for 4 nights. We ended up renting points at the 10 ½ month mark from David's Rentals and I very glad we did. By time the 7 month mark rolled around the first day was gone and then the next day all 4 nights were gone. We were there for Columbus Day week and the parks and hotels were crowded. I spoke to several members during our stay and they all said that 3 day weeks were usually busy in October and November but this year it was worse.

I think October is a very popular time on the weekends at DLR for Halloween time. But we didn't check out the availability of other weekends as we were coming off a cruise and needed the dates for Columbus Day weekend.

I booked through Daves DVC for this Easter 2014 before 7 month window and rented our points to apply to the res. When the 7 month time came there was availability. I would have been ok but did not want to risk it. I should have waited.
